Hi and welcome to In the Flow with Lorie Albert,
A podcast designed to teach us to manifest our best lives in every moment and every day.
Let's get in the flow.
I believe that all music is of spirit.
That's just kind of how I roll.
That's in my head,
Right?
I feel like it kind of has a power to it.
Music has power and you know,
It has the power to lift us up to that place of feeling so much joy that your heart just,
Like your body just aches,
You know?
But it also has the power to make us like melancholy and grieve the past,
Right?
Like who here has not heard a song that reminds them of a long past boyfriend or girlfriend,
Right?
I mean,
Come on,
Everybody has and it brings on that sort of melancholy feeling,
You know?
I know I do.
I have several,
Right?
Woohoo!
That's what I'm saying though.
Music is truly so,
So powerful.
But what about in a spiritual sense,
Right?
Religiously think about if you've ever been to a Southern Baptist church,
What an experience.
I mean,
It is extraordinary and you don't even have to believe any,
I'm not talking about the religion of it.
I'm talking about how it makes you feel.
If you've ever been in that situation,
Oh my gosh,
It's amazing,
Right?
The choir and the singers,
They are feeling spirit and it's undeniable and you cannot help but have it be like in your soul,
Right?
And then what about the choirs and the organs in the huge churches?
That definitely evokes all sorts of feelings and emotions,
Right?
I mean,
That's how I grew up in a church with the big organ and all that stuff,
Right?
And without getting into the religious aspect to it,
I loved when the music would start and the organ would start to play.
Loved it,
Right?
And then there's kirtan.
Seriously,
Who here,
Oh my God,
Has experienced kirtan,
Which is sort of the same thing.
It evokes spirit.
It makes you feel it deep down.
It's all devotional and it creates this feeling of pure,
Incredible joy,
Right?
I mean,
Oh my gosh,
Kirtan.
If you haven't been to a kirtan,
You've got to go.
Love it,
Right?
But here's the question.
Where does music sort of fit in while we're meditating?
David G.
Talks about,
He teaches us about sitting in the silence and the stillness and honestly,
It is very powerful to sit in absolute silence and stillness.
Very,
Very powerful.
And it definitely has its own place.
You can't deny that,
Right?
But what about sitting with ambient music?
Just tones,
Just like a note that just goes on and on and on,
Right?
Or what if you just listen to ocean waves while you're meditating?
And I say this a lot about a lot of things,
But it is,
It's very personal.
And for some people,
It will take you to that whole new place in the world,
You know,
In the universe.
And for some people,
It's just there.
It doesn't do anything.
And that's fine.
That's absolutely fine,
Right?
Does any of this stuff,
Does any of this music take you to a different level?
In your heart.
That's what it does to me or your being,
Right?
Now tones and meditations and music and all of that,
It's all over Insight Timer,
The internet.
You can find what works for you or doesn't work for you.
That's like the beauty of it all.
You get to figure out what works for you in terms of meditating.
You know,
Some of you may just definitely have to meditate in complete silence,
Which is a,
Like I said before,
A very powerful thing,
Right?
Or here's the thing too,
You can meditate to tones like I mentioned a minute ago,
Like the tone F,
The note F that's related to the heart chakra.
So when you listen,
If you want to do like a heart based meditation,
You can listen to an F tone.
And that might help to open that chakra or balance it,
You know.
To me,
It's kind of what takes you to that other place spiritually.
That's like my whole thing,
Right?
Recently check this out.
I've gotten into meditating to shamanic drumming.
If you've never done that,
That might be something fun to try because the drumming is consistent and it goes,
Continues on and on and on.
And it's somehow lately has been speaking to me.
I've been like doing a lot of learning about shamanism lately and it's just,
It's so beautiful.
And so when you listen to the drums,
It will take you to a whole,
Like it takes me,
I'm just going to put it in terms of me,
Takes me to a whole other place,
Even for just 10 minutes,
A higher place.
The only thing I would say about being careful in terms of music and meditation and all of that is you got to be careful that the melodic stuff where it's like a melody that keeps repeating itself.
You don't want to start singing.
You can have,
You can listen to like something with a melody,
But try not to listen to it.
Of course,
Now that I just said that you guys are all going to go,
Oh,
Right.
And then you're going to listen to the melody line,
But,
You know,
Just try to just absorb it and not like take it on and have,
You know,
And like sing with it.
You know what I mean?
So there's something about listening to spa music,
You know,
Where there's like that melody line,
You know,
So,
Um,
You have to be a little bit,
Be careful.
You don't want to be sing songy about it.
Right.
Let's get ourselves comfy and let's meditate.
Okay.
All right.
And we're going to listen to music.
Imagine that.
All right.
So let's get ourselves comfortable,
Whatever that looks like to you.
We say,
Thank you spirit for this opportunity to sit in meditation together.
Take a deep breath in and release it as we start to relax into this beautiful music.
Just place our attention at the top of our heads,
Our crown chakra,
And allow yourself to begin the feeling of total relaxation.
Start to feel your head and your neck relaxing and feeling any stress leaving your body.
We hold so much tension in our neck and our shoulders.
As we place our attention there,
Let's start to consciously feel the stress and anxiety leaving our bodies.
There's nowhere to be,
Nothing we need to be doing.
We are just sitting right here,
Right now.
We consciously feel the stress leaving our bodies.
As we sit listening to this music,
Allow it to carry us away to a place where we feel complete love,
Feeling it in our souls and every fiber of our being.
Now let's sit in the stillness and allow the music to take us wherever we need it to go.
Start to bring our awareness back to our bodies.
Let's take a deep breath in,
Breathing in all this beautiful music.
Take a breath in and release it.
Gorgeous.
Namaste.
