We all have hang-ups, right? Well, today I want to share Spiritual Hang Ups…and it’s weird BUT there’s a lesson in it! My dear friend, Pierre Bensusan, has permitted me to use his track called ‘Sentimentales Pyromaniaques’ from the album 'Altiplanos'.

Welcome to In the Flow,

A positivity-provoking podcast designed to lift us up to that higher place to live our best lives.

We will laugh,

Cry,

Meditate,

And discuss any and all things spiritual to learn and remove any stigma surrounding spiritual gifts,

Meditation,

Prayer,

And the afterlife.

So today I want to talk about hang-ups.

I have a hang-up.

And I thought,

You know what,

If I have this hang-up,

Maybe some other people do too.

So here we go.

Hi Jackie,

Thanks for joining from Toronto.

Okay so yeah,

I have a hang-up and it's kind of weird.

It's not that weird.

It's not a weird,

Weird thing.

It's just kind of odd for me,

Right?

So here it is.

I was raised Catholic,

Okay?

Which isn't a bad thing,

Necessarily.

It squelched me a little bit and you know,

It is what it is.

Everybody has their own way of dealing with,

You know,

Of praying and all that kind of stuff,

Right?

Catholicism just wasn't for me.

Okay.

But that's how I was raised,

Right?

So I have this really strange hang-up about using the term God.

And you know what,

For the longest time,

Like when I was a kid,

It was like when you talked about God,

God was this like father figure who was going to punish you.

If you did something wrong,

You know,

That kind of thing,

Right?

And I was always doing something wrong.

I was one of those kids that was like always doing something wrong,

Right?

You know,

And I would have to go to confession and then I would worry because the priests knew my family and were they going to tell my family and it was just a thing,

Right?

So I have this,

Okay,

So that's like Catholicism.

That's not about God,

But it is about God,

Right?

Because I thought that God was like this great disciplinarian.

That's the word.

Oh my God,

That's like the perfect word,

Right?

So I thought that God was this great disciplinarian.

And so when I fast forward into my adult life,

I really,

Really rebelled against the term God.

And,

And it wasn't even just the term God.

I rebelled from spirituality and everything for a while.

Then I was like,

Somebody,

I don't even remember this,

This is a long time ago.

I heard the term spirit in the place of sort of God,

Right?

And I was like,

Oh my gosh.

So spirit and universe,

The term universe was like,

Wow,

This is amazing,

Right?

So I started to develop my spirituality without having to use the term God,

So to speak.

And guess what?

It opened up for me.

It opened up an entire world for me just because of the terminology.

Oh my gosh.

So much learned,

So much learned because of that,

Right?

So much learned.

And you know,

The term spirit is,

Well,

I first,

I use the term universe and I love that.

I love the term universe,

Right,

Because it's like all encompassing of like everything in the whole,

Everything like infinity.

It's all encompassing.

But then,

And this is just me,

This doesn't have to be you.

We all have our own way of being spiritual,

Right?

But then once I really started developing my spiritual gifts,

It somehow became more of a personal thing for me to talk about,

To have a relationship with spirit for me to call God spirit.

So now I say I talk about spirit in place of God.

And the reason why I'm bringing this up is because it became really,

Really apparent to me within the past couple of weeks that it's all the same.

Not that I didn't know this before,

But it's all the same.

And it became really apparent to me that we all have our own way of being spiritual,

Right?

Whatever religion you are,

Whatever your belief system is,

And you know,

It's all right,

Whatever it is for you.

Oh my gosh.

To me that was like,

You know,

I took,

Because you know,

I'm the type of person,

I find like a lesson in everything.

That's just kind of who I am.

I find like these little weird lessons in like life.

And I realized that we're all just,

We're all just doing our own thing.

We all have our own relationship with God,

Universe,

Spirit,

Whatever you want to call it.

And it's,

It's amazing.

It's absolutely amazing.

What,

However it is you choose for it to be,

Right?

So I found a real piece from that.

And that's why I wanted to talk about it today because you know what?

I took this hang up from years and years,

Okay,

A lot of years ago.

I took this hang up from years ago and it,

And it is eventually morphed into this awakening for me.

And it's just beautiful.

So that's what we're meditating on today because we are going to meditate now.

Right.

Of course we are.

Right.

So we're going to meditate.

I'm going to chant a little bit because,

Well,

You'll see in a minute.

Let's let's get ourselves comfortable to get into our meditative state.

And you guys,

I just really appreciate you guys all joining.

I just me and my little hang ups and me and my,

My little weird view of the world and universe and spirit and everything.

So I appreciate everybody joining in with that.

Right.

Um,

Okay,

So let's get ourselves comfortable.

Oh my gosh.

Close your eyes whenever you feel like it's right for you.

Perfect.

Perfect.

And now let's take a really slow,

Deep breath in and release it.

Awesome.

Absolutely perfect.

So before we get into the stillness and we're starting to settle down our bodies,

Let's talk about gratitude.

What are you grateful for today?

Just in your own mind.

Let's think of three things that you are grateful for today.

It could be anything.

It could be something as simple as,

And I know I use this all the time.

It could be as simple as your cup of coffee,

Or it could be as significant as you're thankful for your health.

It could be anything.

That's the joy of the practice of gratitude,

Right?

Some days it can be really,

Really dramatic and some days it can just be very simple.

So our mantra for today,

Because,

Well it's not because.

I found a true peace in learning to take the terminology out of my spirituality.

Peace.

So our mantra today,

What I wish for everyone is shanti.

So we are going to chant together.

Now here's the thing.

You can chant with me.

Shanti means peace in Sanskrit.

So you can chant with me.

You can hum along or you can just listen because here's the thing about chanting.

It's just about the vibration.

It's about tuning into the vibration of shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Om shanti shanti shanti.

Let's start bringing our awareness back to our bodies.

Let's take a nice deep breath in.

Whenever you feel comfortable you can open your eyes.

Thank you so much for joining today.

Namaste.
