Living In The Future
by Lauri Albert
Did you know that worrying is actually living in the future? I admit I worry. We all do at some time in our lives. And don’t you think that it’s pretty pointless to do so? However, what if we can take the 'worry' and use it as a way to bring us to the present moment! Ahhhh, gratitude!

And good morning.
Namaste everybody.
Welcome to In The Flow with Lori Albert.
Yep,
It's true.
I am a warrior.
Not warrior.
Oh my gosh,
I just realized that I said that.
Not a warrior,
But I am a worrier.
Got to admit it,
Right?
And I don't understand why I worry.
I don't understand why I do it,
But I do.
I worry about my husband and my daughter and my family and friends.
I worry about everybody.
I worry about myself.
And you know what's the worst thing in the world to worry about is like events that have not happened yet.
That's the worst,
That's the stupidest thing.
It is such a waste of time.
But yet I do it.
Do you guys do it?
Do you worry about stuff that you know deep down that it's silly to worry about?
You know,
Honestly,
I feel like that everybody does.
I mean,
You know,
And it's interesting because I came across a couple of quotes that I thought were really fascinating about this.
Okay,
The first one is the Dalai Lama.
Of course,
The Dalai Lama is gonna have something really interesting to say about worrying,
Right?
You would think,
Right?
Okay,
So this is what the quote from the Dalai Lama,
Which I absolutely love.
If a problem is fixable,
If a situation is such that you can do something about it,
Then there's no need to worry.
If it's not fixable,
Then there's no help in worrying.
There is no benefit in worrying whatsoever.
Yet we still all do it.
That's me.
That's me adding that part.
Yet we still all do it.
Oh,
It's such a waste.
It's such a waste.
Right?
And then Robert Elliot said,
Rule number one is don't sweat the small stuff.
I mean,
How many times have we heard that one in the course of our lives?
Right?
Don't sweat the small stuff.
And rule number two is it's all small stuff.
Hello.
You know,
I mean,
It's just so real and so true.
Why do we do this?
But here's the thing.
Because I have to,
I,
You know,
I told you guys I'd bring my,
My life to this,
To this,
Right?
There's a thing that's happening next week and I'm just worried,
Right?
I'm just worried about it.
And it's so stupid.
And it's so funny because yesterday I was like,
Oh,
What am I one spirit?
You know,
Because I always ask spirit what I should talk about.
And spirit was like in my head,
Right?
Like,
You know,
If you're learning something,
Meaning me,
If I'm learning something about stopping worrying,
Then maybe somebody else could learn something too.
Right?
So here are a few things that I'm saying for me,
Just as much as I'm saying for you.
And what's funny is,
Is that this is all stuff we know how to stop worrying.
But here's the deal.
Here's the deal.
We need to keep saying this to ourselves over and over again.
You can't just,
Sometimes it's not easy.
Sometimes it's,
What do I want to say?
Sometimes it's not easy to just boom,
Stop worrying.
But if we continually remember these things over and over and over again,
It's like that going to the gym.
You can't lift,
I don't know,
Making this up because I don't go to the gym,
But like,
If you can't lift a 200 pound weight,
You have to like work up to it.
Right?
So here's a few things that,
That I like to,
That I think are important for us to remember to do.
Right?
First of all,
Get out of your comfort zone and into something different.
Right?
Like go take a walk,
You know,
You know,
Go take a walk and get out of that space.
You know,
Cause if you're,
If you're sitting,
Like if I'm sitting here and I'm worrying about something,
Well then maybe I should get up and go to the kitchen.
You know what I mean?
Or go to,
You know,
Or go,
Go take a drive,
Something like that.
Change where you're at.
Change your,
Your mindset.
Okay?
Second thing is,
And you know this is always my go-to,
But it's so true and so effective,
Is meditation.
The other day I spent an hour in meditation.
I haven't done that in a while and I love to meditate.
I love to sit.
Right?
And just sit and just be.
But sitting in meditation allows us to be in the present and that's what worrying takes us away from.
You're living in the future if you're worrying about something.
Right?
And again,
I'm saying this to me just as much as I'm saying it to you guys.
Right?
Right?
So anyway,
So then,
I apologize,
I don't know where I learned this from,
But another little tool that we can do is shift the worrying from something that's far down the line.
Right?
Like the worrying of,
The worrying of,
Will I ever get married someday?
To,
Let's bring it instead of the,
The ether,
Instead of taking it way out,
Bring it in and bring it closer.
Right?
I mean,
I feel like that that can actually help to compartmentalize it.
You know?
So I thought that was a really interesting tool to use.
Right?
And then,
Let's just say it.
Let's be grateful for where we are right now.
Oh my gosh,
I love this community that is being built by doing these,
These short little meditations every day.
I am so grateful for that.
So being grateful brings us to the present right now.
And it's like,
It's like a,
It just brings you to the present.
I love that so,
So much.
Okay.
So let's get meditating,
Shall we?
Because we need to get out of this worry place.
Right?
And into,
Into our warrior place.
Right?
Because we are spiritual warriors who are not going to worry anymore.
I'm pretty funny,
Huh?
Okay.
So let's get ourselves comfortable.
It's too early in the morning for silly jokes like that.
Don't you think?
Okay.
So let's get ourselves comfortable.
Relax your body.
Relax your mind.
Close your eyes.
And let's take a nice long,
Deep,
Deep breath in.
And release.
You know,
With all of the crazy,
Weird energy that's been going on,
Just even taking that long,
Deep breath in can fix so much in your brain.
Right?
It brings you to the present moment.
That's the beautiful part.
Coming into the present moment.
What are you grateful for today?
What are you grateful for?
What is so,
What's going right in your life right now,
Right at this particular moment?
What is going right?
The weather is cooling off.
Maybe your job is actually kind of rolling at a good pace.
Beautiful.
Very good.
Now I want to ask you,
One of David G's sacred questions.
Who are you when you are at your best?
Who are you being when you are being your best self?
Are you being empathetic?
Are you being compassionate,
Loving,
Strong?
Who are you being?
So our mantra for today,
As we sit in the silence and stillness,
Just for even those few short minutes,
Is thank you.
Because what can bring us to the present moment and get us out of our headspace and that worrying space?
Then those two little words,
Thank you.
Thank you.
So as we sit in the silence,
Just continue to say thank you over and over again.
If you find yourself swaying around from that,
Just bring yourself gently back to your breath and say thank you.
I will keep the time and let's begin.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Let's start bringing our awareness back to our bodies.
Say one last thank you to the universe.
Let's take a nice deep,
Deep breath in and release.
Whenever you feel comfortable,
You can open your eyes.
It's perfect.
So today,
If you find today or any day,
Really,
If you find yourself in a place of worry,
Maybe just start saying thank you.
You know,
Worry actually is a reminder to be here now,
Right?
To quote Ram Dass,
To be here now.
So let's replace our worry with gratitude.
Great.
Great.
So thank you so much for joining today.
As always,
I love you all so much.
Thank you for joining.
And until next time,
Namaste everybody.
