It can be a daunting task to teach ourselves to meditate. BUT these few things I learned from a few of my favorite Spiritual teachers changed everything for me! My intro music is by my dear friend, Pierre Bensusan. The track is called ‘Sentimentales Pyromaniaques’ from the album 'Altiplanos'.

Welcome to In the Flow,

A positivity-provoking podcast designed to lift us up to that higher place to live our best lives.

We will laugh,

Cry,

Meditate,

And discuss any and all things spiritual to learn and remove any stigma surrounding spiritual gifts,

Meditation,

Prayer,

And the afterlife.

Hello there,

And welcome into today.

Yay.

So,

When I first started meditating a long time ago,

I,

Being a determined sort of person,

Because I'm an Aries,

I knew that I would have thoughts,

Right?

I knew I would have thoughts when I first started meditating,

And I knew that it might be challenging to quiet my mind and stop those thoughts.

I thought that after a little while,

Those thoughts would stop,

And I would be able to meditate blissfully with a blank mind and become a master meditator.

Uh,

No.

No,

It doesn't exactly,

I mean,

Maybe it does for some people work like that,

But it didn't work like that for me,

And I don't think it works like that for most people,

Right?

This misnomer,

I really believe,

Is why so many people start meditating and then stop.

I really do,

Because they don't understand that it's a muscle,

Right?

So,

Throughout the 22 years that I've been meditating,

I have studied with and read many,

Many meditation teachers and have come to terms with the fact that I,

Being the perfectionist that I am,

Unfortunately have thoughts during meditation.

Even after all these years,

Right?

I mean,

After all,

We as humans,

And I don't know if you guys know this,

We as humans have between 60 to 80,

000 thoughts a day.

Yeah,

That's a lot,

Right?

Wayne Dyer talked about meditation habits,

Right?

And one of the habits that Wayne Dyer talked about so much is about recognizing the silence between the thoughts as everything.

He says that everything emerges from the gap,

The void.

Then David G,

My meditation teacher,

Talks extensively about this gap being filled with infinite possibilities.

Amazing,

Right?

He says,

This is a quote by David G,

Whether this stillness lasts for a tenth of a second,

Ten seconds or ten minutes is of no consequence.

This is the best part,

You guys.

Touching stillness,

Even in the smallest of doses,

Allows you to connect to your unconditioned self,

To your source,

To enlightenment.

Oh my gosh.

When you hear that,

Whenever I read that or heard him say it,

I don't remember which it was,

But I was like,

Well,

I want that.

And because I had never actually realized it,

That changed everything for me.

It changed everything in my meditation practice.

So here's the thing.

It is a process and we need to continue to build the muscle by exercising it.

The most important thing that you can do to get really,

Really,

Really,

Really,

Really good at meditating is to keep doing it every day,

Regardless of whether you feel anything or not,

Right?

Keep showing up and start slow.

Even five minutes a day is something.

And that's what I love about this.

It can be progressive.

I know so,

So many people that say,

I have too many thoughts,

I just can't do it.

But that's the whole point.

It's the space between the thoughts.

The space between the thoughts is where you connect to source.

Source being God or the universe or spirit,

Whatever you want to call it,

Right?

And I loved learning this.

And it's funny because I keep learning it over and over again.

I really do.

I keep learning that over and over again.

Because we go throughout our day and we forget stuff.

We go throughout our life and things happen.

But showing up every day,

Whether you remember that it's the space between the thoughts or whatever,

Just keep showing up.

So we're going to meditate on this.

Surprise,

Surprise,

Right?

So here's the thing.

You're going to have thoughts.

You're always going to have thoughts when you try to meditate.

And that's okay.

One of three things will happen.

You will have thoughts.

Or you will fall asleep.

Imagine that.

And that's okay too.

Or you will fall into this blissful meditation.

And that's why it's so interesting because learning to meditate and not have thoughts basically is why mantras have become so popular.

Because when you concentrate on the mantra,

You're not concentrating on your thoughts.

So the thoughts then aren't there,

If that makes sense.

So that's why a mantra really works for some people.

However today we're not going to do a mantra.

Today we're going to focus on our breath and just sit in the stillness.

And know that the treasure is in that space.

The gap.

David G.

Always says,

I'll see you in the gap.

I love that.

So let's get ourselves comfortable.

Now don't try to make yourself notice the space between the thoughts.

Because as soon as you try,

That becomes the thing,

Right?

So let's get ourselves comfy.

And let's take a nice deep breath in really slow and then release it really slow.

So slow deep breath in and release it slowly.

Perfect.

Absolutely perfect.

So before we get into the stillness,

Let's start our practice out by considering a few things that we are grateful for.

What are you grateful for today?

Are you grateful for the coffee that you had this morning?

Are you grateful for your loved one that you woke up next to this morning?

Are you grateful that you get to spend some time in nature today?

Beautiful.

Whatever it is to you is what is correct.

So in other words,

There's no wrong answer.

So as we slow our breathing,

Slow our breath down.

And we notice the beautiful intake of breath and releasing it.

Breathing in and out.

Feeling the cool air come in your lungs.

Breathing in and out.

I will keep the time and let's continue focusing on our breath.

Breathing in and out.

Breathing in and out.

Breathing in and out.

Breathing in and out.

Breathing in and out.

Breathing in and out.

Breathing in and out.

Breathing in and out.

Breathing in and out.

Breathing in and out.

Breathing in and out.

Back to the room and the chair we're sitting in.

Let's take a nice deep breath in.

Very slow and release it slowly.

Perfect.

Whenever you feel comfortable,

You can open your eyes.

So how did that feel for you?

Were you able to maybe just concentrate on your breath instead of the huge laundry list of things that we need to do today,

Right?

Starting out slow is always the way to go.

So I wish you the best today.

If you want to try it again later on,

Try that again.

Just focusing on your breath.

So thank you so much for joining as always.

I appreciate each and every one of you.

From my heart to yours,

Namaste.
