Meditation,
Prayer,
And the afterlife.
Got 10 minutes?
What do you think?
Do you got 10 minutes?
That's what I want to talk about today.
10 minutes.
You know,
I get asked,
The number one thing that I get asked on a daily basis,
Almost,
Is,
Oh,
I need more peace in my life.
Oh my gosh,
I just,
I need to get over the stress.
But if you have 10 minutes,
10 minutes can help.
10 minutes can help.
I want to talk about meditation,
Obviously,
Because that's what I do.
I am a certified meditation teacher.
I've been meditating for about 20 years.
And actually,
I've been saying that for a long time now,
So it's probably longer.
But here's the thing.
When I realized what it was doing,
Like I just did it,
I was just,
I just started meditating because I,
You know,
It was like,
It felt good.
I felt peaceful and I felt all that.
And I didn't quite understand what was happening,
Right?
But it didn't dawn on me how dramatic the effect was until I got a thyroid disease.
Okay.
And one of the main,
Well,
I shouldn't say one of the main because it's all,
You know,
One of the things that the doctors always talk about is being careful of depression.
Right.
So I was like,
Okay,
I got to be careful of depression.
And I thought,
I'm not really depressed.
Now,
I'm not saying that,
You know,
This,
That meditation is a substitute for anything medical.
I would never say that in a thousand years.
However,
It can help.
Right.
So my thought process was,
Oh,
Wow,
I wonder if meditation is helping me.
And I started thinking about it and I thought,
I'll bet it is.
I'm generally a happy person anyway.
So it was kind of like,
I wonder what it is.
But then,
Oh,
Wow,
This is full disclosure.
I went in for a little procedure,
Nothing major,
Right?
About maybe five years ago or so.
And the lady was like,
Wow,
Your heart rate's really good and your blood pressure's really good.
Do you like,
Do you run?
And I'm like,
No,
Sorry.
I mean,
I have really bad arthritis in my feet.
Can't do that.
You know,
Working out is kind of an issue.
And she's like,
You're just,
Your vital signs are so good.
And I said,
Do you think it's cause I meditate all the time?
And I shouldn't say all the time,
But do you think,
I mean,
I don't meditate all the time,
But you know,
And she goes,
Oh,
Absolutely.
I get people in here that talk about meditation all the time.
And I was like,
Whoa.
But then to further that thought,
And I was,
First of all,
I was blown away by that because I didn't know.
I mean,
I didn't,
You know,
I'm not one to like read studies and all that kind of stuff.
And that's honestly what I've got David G for because he talks about studies and all this other stuff sometimes.
And I'm just like,
Oh wow,
That's pretty cool.
It's cool.
I just don't know about it.
Right.
So,
You know,
Right.
So here I am sitting here feeling really good,
Right.
About like,
You know,
Feeling less stress,
Feeling peaceful,
Blah,
Blah,
Blah,
All that stuff.
And I start getting,
It's funny how spirit works,
Right?
I start getting all these questions like,
You know what,
I meditate maybe once a week.
I can't find the time.
It,
You know,
I know I feel like I'm doing it wrong.
You know,
All of these things.
And I have such a soft spot in my heart for all the people of the world that try to meditate and then kind of can't and feel like that they're doing it wrong and all that stuff.
Huge soft spot for that.
So then that's when I decided I need to get certified so that I can actually really teach people,
You know,
That it doesn't have to be,
It doesn't have to be big and dramatic.
You don't have to do the hand mudras.
It's fun.
It's interesting.
But it's really about sitting quietly with yourself.
That's what it's about.
And you know,
You can start,
I like to say start with 10 minutes.
Some people say that,
You know,
That's even still too long.
How about one minute?
Start with one minute or two minutes.
You know,
It's not,
It doesn't have to be a big dramatic thing.
Right?
And I'm here to tell you,
I've been meditating a long time and I still have thoughts.
It's not like we're trying to clear our minds completely.
We just want to sit in the stillness and sit in a place of peace for just even a short period of time.
So that's what we're going to do today.
Right?
We're going to meditate.
I don't even know for how long.
Right?
Now,
Here's the thing.
We're going to use the mantra,
The mantra that everybody knows.
Pardon me.
The mantra that everybody knows.
Om.
Right?
What does om?
What does it mean?
Like why?
You know,
It's like we all know what the word is.
Right?
But in my,
Okay,
So first of all,
In Hinduism,
It means like it is the sound of the universe.
How incredible is that?
Right?
So why wouldn't you want to say om when you're meditating or any other time?
It's the sound of the universe.
What better way to get connected to the universe than to say om.
Right?
But you know,
It's become this thing of like,
Oh,
You know,
I see even commercials on TV.
It's like they're mocking it,
You know,
And it's like,
Dude,
Do you really know what you're talking about?
You know,
Stop,
Stop doing that.
It's a really,
It's an important word.
It is our connection to the universe.
Hello.
You know?
So that's the sound that we are going to use today.
That's the mantra we're going to use today.
Now I'm going to play the Shruti box and I'm going to chant om.
You don't have to do that.
I just like the vibration.
And again,
And I know I say this all the time,
Broken record.
It's not about sitting quietly.
Well,
It is about sitting quietly,
But it's not about sitting still and in with your legs crossed and in these crazy positions,
Blah,
Blah,
Blah.
It's not about that.
It's about the vibration,
Right?
It's about the vibration and it's about taking the 10 minutes.
Okay?
So that's what we're going to do,
Right?
We are going to get ourselves seated comfortably.
Okay?
All right.
So some of you,
This is so old hat,
But to some of you,
Maybe you need that little bit of oomph,
Right?
That little bit of,
Okay,
So maybe I'll try this,
Right?
We're here for you.
So,
All right.
So get your,
Close your eyes whenever it feels right to you.
Sit comfortably.
Perfect.
Now let's take a nice deep breath in and release.
Now I do that every time I sit in meditation at least once because there's something about really,
You know,
Bringing in that beautiful oxygen and then releasing kind of the stagnant breath in your body,
Right?
And it's so relaxing.
So we're going to use the term oomph,
The mantra oomph.
If you want to chant along with me,
Absolutely great.
You do not have to.
You can hum.
You can hear it in your minds.
You can just sit and listen.
Okay?
Don't worry about the time.
I will keep this.
Okay?
Yes.
Rama Rama.
Om.
Whom?
Hmm.
Oh Management.
Ah aah.
OM Aum Aum Aum Aum Aum Aum Aum Aum Aum Aum Aum Aum Aum Aum Aum Aum Aum Aum Aum
