Confession Time & Me Learning To Shift My Thoughts
by Lauri Albert
You know, my life hasn't turned out at all like I thought I wanted it to. But in really thinking about it, it turned out better! I confess today on my thoughts and THEN I lead a meditation to help us get the HECK out of our heads and into our hearts! My dear friend, Pierre Bensusan, has permitted me to use his track called ‘Sentimentales Pyromaniaques’ from the album 'Altiplanos'. “I Am With You” composed by Music Of Wisdom - Licensed from Meditation Music Library

Hello and welcome to the spirit rooms podcast in the flow with Lori Albert,
Where we talk about spirituality,
Manifestation,
And how to create and live our best lives.
Welcome in.
Hello friends.
Confession time.
Isn't it just tantalizing to like hear those words like,
Ooh,
What's going to be said?
So seriously though,
I know that that might sound kind of funny,
But you know what?
This weekend I had like a major like thought thing going on.
Right?
So I,
My confession is this,
I love hallmark and lifetime Christmas movies.
I may have,
I may have confessed to that before.
However,
You know,
I just started watching them this weekend and I started thinking actually something that one of the actors said in one of the movies,
Like made me think about this,
You know,
I see and,
And all of these,
Like all of these movies show,
You know,
Sort of broken people and then getting their life back together and talking to people they haven't talked to and getting back together with their loved ones and blah,
Blah,
Blah,
All that stuff.
Right.
So I started thinking to myself,
Oh my gosh,
I started thinking to myself,
You know what?
My life did not turn out the way I wanted it to.
I swear to God,
You guys know me.
If you listen to me ever,
You know,
I started thinking,
You know,
My life did not turn out like I wanted it to,
You know,
I,
And I'm not upset about my choices.
Okay.
It's just certain things.
There's like these regrets.
You start thinking about this stuff.
Like I,
My husband and I eloped,
That's fine.
I'm actually happy about that.
Right.
However,
My father didn't get to walk me down the aisle and that's one of those little things that goes in my head.
You know,
It's like constant,
Not even the constant,
But it's one of those little regrets that,
You know,
You have,
You know,
And then,
You know,
There's other situations which I'm not going to get into because,
You know,
That wouldn't be very good,
But little other little family situations that,
You know,
Just aren't exactly the way I would ever really want them to be,
You know?
And I started getting myself like sad.
I'm like,
Here I am watching these like happy-go-lucky Christmas movies.
I know it's not even Thanksgiving yet.
I get that.
And you can judge me,
But,
But you know,
Anyway,
I started thinking about all this stuff in my,
I could literally feel my vibration lowering.
Like,
You know,
You can feel that when it's happening.
Like if you're at all in tune with yourself,
You can kind of feel it happening.
Right.
So I started going,
Ah,
You know,
Like,
Why was I put on this earth?
What am I here to do?
Am I here to feel those sad things like,
And feel the emotions surrounding them or like,
What is it?
You know,
Like,
Why would,
Why am I here?
I mean,
I know sort of why I'm here,
But really why am I,
You know,
All of those thoughts that we,
We put on ourselves.
And I know I do that all the time.
Okay.
I think we all do to a certain degree,
You know,
Anyway,
The good news is about,
You know,
Maybe an hour into those thoughts,
I started thinking,
You know what?
I can't,
I can't do this.
If I go down this rabbit hole,
I can't change the past.
Right?
Why am I going down this rabbit hole?
So it was really interesting because my husband and I were going somewhere and I was like talking it through with him and I'm just like,
I don't know why I go down this rabbit hole.
Why do I do that?
And here's what I kind of came up with.
I think it's actually,
Dare I say this,
But I think it's actually kind of okay to feel those feelings of the,
Ah,
I wish I hadn't blah,
Blah,
Blah.
Or why can't this be different?
Or why can't this person be different?
Or why can't that situation have,
Why did I make it work out that way or whatever,
Right?
There's so many things,
But you know what?
It's all in how we choose to view them.
I mean,
That's the bottom line.
We have the ability to shift our thoughts if we choose to do that.
And isn't that quite the undertaking?
You know,
I mean,
It's kind of an undertaking to do that,
To really put your mind to shifting your thoughts.
I mean,
Literally I'll give you the,
You know,
The one example I gave to you was my father did not walk me down the aisle.
I didn't,
We actually had it,
The whole situation was like pretty cool,
But my dad did not walk me down the aisle.
And there's like this regret,
You know,
I didn't get to do all of the dress shopping for my,
I don't know where,
Why it was,
Oh no,
I do know why it was coming up with my wedding because it was one of those movies about where one of the brides was getting married and that sort of thing.
Right.
I'm like,
I never went dress shopping with anybody.
I went,
I got a dress,
But I went to just a regular store and I got it myself.
I didn't,
You know,
There's like little twinges of regret there,
But you know what?
I would change or I wouldn't change a minute of my life,
You know,
And this was where my husband and I started when we were in the car and going somewhere.
That's where I like started thinking to myself,
You know what?
I wouldn't change any of it because we get along great.
We've been married 30 years.
We have been married a long time.
We actually like each other.
And we were laughing about that.
You know,
We actually still like each other,
You know,
We have an amazing daughter.
I mean,
She is like beyond anything I could ever have thought of for a daughter.
Right.
It's so crazy.
Right.
So then I started thinking,
You know,
This is what you do.
You need to shift your thoughts.
You need,
I need,
I'm sitting here saying that you need,
But the reality is we need to make the decision to shift our thoughts.
And it was really cool because as we were driving to this place,
We were going,
It was about a half an hour drive and I was telling him all this stuff and I was kind of feeling sad.
And he goes,
Yeah,
But you know what?
And then we started talking about how great our life is,
You know,
I mean,
Yeah,
There's always things that are things in your life,
Right?
But the reality is we got to that place of boy,
Aren't we grateful.
Right.
So it's about shifting your thoughts and that's what we're going to do today.
We are going to do a thought shifting meditation,
A thought shifting meditation.
Why not?
Right.
So that's what we're going to do.
And I hope that you guys all can sort of relate to what I was just talking about because it's something that can be shifting,
You know,
Of your whole,
Of your whole being.
If you allow yourself to shift the thoughts,
It can be extraordinary,
Extraordinary,
Grateful place that you can get to.
So,
All right,
So let's meditate,
Right?
Okay,
Let's meditate.
All right,
So I'm going to put on some nice music.
Oh,
It's going to be fun.
All right.
So here we go.
So let's get ourselves to a very comfortable place.
You can sit cross legged or straight up in a chair.
You can be lying down.
It's very comfortable.
Let's take a deep,
Relaxing breath in,
Allowing ourselves to be in this present moment.
So let's breathe in and out.
Beautiful.
Very good.
Let's take one more breath.
Breathe in and allow yourself to breathe out.
Breathing out stress,
Any unwanted feelings for the day.
So if you feel so inspired,
You can place your hands on your heart during this meditation.
Sometimes when we put our hands over our heart,
It actually accentuates the feelings of love and compassion.
You can feel your heart beating and feeling that love just radiating.
So the Maharaji once said,
Cleanse the mirror of your heart and you will see God.
He also said that love is the strongest medicine.
It is more powerful than electricity.
Amazing thoughts.
So now let's allow ourselves to feel love throughout every cell in our bodies and souls.
Knowing that this is our absolute calling to be the love that the world needs right now.
So I'd like for you to think and consider someone that you may have a grudge against.
Maybe they hurt you in some way or cheated you in some way.
And now I want you to feel love in your heart and send it to that person.
Feeling the compassion,
Feeling the love even if it's difficult and send it to that person.
And now I'd like for you to think about someone that you have hurt.
It could be something small or large.
But you know that you hurt that person,
Whoever that is.
Let's feel love in our hearts for that person and let's send them the love.
And now let's think bigger picture like globally.
Think of someone or something that you have less than good feelings for,
For whatever reason,
Whether it's entertainment or religious or political,
Whatever.
Think of that situation or person.
I want you to feel that love in your heart.
Feel love and send it to them or to that situation.
I'm reminded of an old Cherokee story called The Tale of Two Wolves.
One evening,
An old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside all of us.
He said,
My son,
The battle is between two wolves inside us all.
One is evil.
It is anger,
Envy,
Jealousy,
Sorrow,
Regret,
Self pity,
Guilt,
Resentment,
And ego.
The other is good.
And it is joy and peace and love,
Serenity,
Humility,
Kindness,
Empathy,
Generosity,
Compassion,
And truth.
The grandson thought about it for a moment.
Then he asked his grandfather,
Which wolf wins?
The old Cherokee simply replied,
The one that you feed.
So now as we sit in the stillness for just a few moments,
Let's consider love and say to yourself over and over again,
Aham prema,
Aham prema.
And this means I am divine love.
So just repeat this to yourself.
Aham prema.
Aham prema.
Aham prema.
Aham prema.
Aham prema.
We thank you,
Spirit.
Thank you for continually teaching us about love and compassion and kindness.
We ask for your assistance in always feeding the wolf of kindness and love and peace and joy.
Namaste.
