Being Your Truest Self… It’s Throat Chakra Day!
by Lauri Albert
Are you living and being your truth? Let’s talk about the Throat Chakra & the ability to truly balance this exquisite chakra. My dear friend, Pierre Bensusan, has permitted me to use his track called ‘Sentimentales Pyromaniaques’ from the album 'Altiplanos'.

Welcome to the Spirit Rooms podcast,
In the Flow with Lori Albert,
Where we discuss tapping into our spiritual gifts,
Meditation,
And basically all aspects of spirituality.
Welcome in.
Hello everyone.
Today we are continuing on this ongoing series about the chakras.
And today is all about the throat chakra.
Right?
It's the fifth chakra and it is called the vishuddha.
So what about this chakra?
Well,
It's really pretty clear,
I will say,
How much I love talking about all the chakras,
As I say pretty much all the time.
But this particular chakra,
I don't know,
I always feel like it's special to me.
I know that may sound a little bit nutty,
But the reason why I say that is because this chakra is about being your truth,
Living your truth.
It is about communication.
Okay?
But not just communication with other people.
Okay?
It's about communication with our soul.
It's about our own self-expression,
Our own personal truth.
Yeah,
That's big.
That's very big.
Here's like a little sort of example,
Right?
I have been a medium,
Intuitive empath since I was a baby.
I grew up Catholic,
Which was fine,
And I learned a lot and all of that,
But I knew that I had to squelch what was going on with me.
I couldn't be my authentic self.
Okay?
And I knew that I felt different from other people,
Obviously.
You know,
Whenever you're an empath or you're a medium and you know stuff and you sense deceased loved ones around,
Yeah,
You're different.
You know?
And you know that.
Okay?
I could feel the emotions of those around me.
I really could.
Like I would go into the grocery store and be like,
Oh honey,
I'm so sorry.
Like I could just tell people felt sad or whatever,
You know?
But I could not express it.
Hmm.
My true self-expression was muted,
And I wasn't aware of my life's purpose.
Now a lot of people,
Especially,
You know,
I'm talking about myself as a child,
But you know a lot of people go throughout their entire lives and don't know their life's purpose.
So my throat chakra,
However,
Was very strong in terms of my music because I was a singer for a long time.
I guess once you're a singer,
You're always a singer,
Right?
But I was able to express myself through my music,
And that was really lucky.
You know?
I went through my life understanding that,
Okay?
And feeling complete as far as that went.
But then years later,
I started to explore my own spirituality,
And that was sort of the beginning of me really understanding how to express my true nature,
My true true self.
I really,
And right now,
Honestly,
I really feel complete.
I really do.
I feel like I am truly self-expressed,
And it makes me a whole different person than I used to be,
You know?
And you know,
This is all very much like coming out as LGBTQ.
I mean,
Seriously,
This is Pride Month.
We are in June right now,
If you're listening to this now.
We are in Pride Month,
And it's exciting in terms of the chakra,
In terms of the throat chakra specifically,
To hear of people coming out and speaking,
Living their truth,
Being their truth.
And honestly,
I'm very,
Very proud of my daughter.
My daughter is being her truest self,
And it's amazing.
It's amazing to watch,
Right?
Now,
But in terms of spirituality,
You know how,
Okay,
So this is like the best like sort of real world example,
Okay?
You know how sometimes you're in a conversation or you're in a meeting with somebody,
And you're afraid to speak up for yourself.
You're afraid to speak what you know to be true,
Especially in a,
You know,
Like a business meeting or something.
Or if you're with a group of friends,
Mm-hmm,
That could mean that this particular chakra is out of balance,
Okay?
This chakra is very powerful because when it is blocked,
Okay,
I want you to really listen to this,
When the throat chakra is blocked,
You may feel anxiety or low self-esteem or have extraordinary difficulty expressing yourself.
And you might feel like that no one gets you or will be able to listen to you.
People aren't listening to me is like a thing that a lot of people say when their throat chakra is a bit blocked,
Okay?
Now,
Here's another interesting thing.
This chakra rules,
Obviously,
The throat and the thyroid,
Okay?
So you may get hoarse,
You may get sinus infections,
All of that.
Now,
Here's my,
And I'm sorry to make this all about me,
But check this out.
This is such an amazing example,
Okay?
So my family on my father's side has a history of thyroid issues,
Okay?
You know where I'm going with this,
Right?
I myself have Hashimoto's disease,
Which is an autoimmune disease.
And wait till you hear this.
My father,
My grandmother,
They all had their thyroids removed.
I have many cousins that have huge thyroid issues,
Okay?
Now,
What does that mean in terms of this chakra?
Well,
This is the cool part.
After my grandmothers,
Both of them,
Passed away,
And I became,
You know,
I was developing my spiritual gifts as an intuitive and a medium.
They both came to me.
They usually come in together,
But that's another conversation.
They both came to me and told me that they had these same gifts,
But they were not allowed to develop them.
Now,
Mind you,
This is back in the early,
Early 1900s.
So if you think about that,
You think about what things,
What life was like back then,
They could not live their truth,
Right?
And if you take that and,
You know,
Put that together with the thyroid,
That's really,
Truly amazing,
Okay?
They had spiritual gifts that were undeveloped,
And they knew they could not speak their truth.
It's amazing!
It's amazing!
So,
All right,
Here's another one.
There are many ways to balance the chakra,
And they're fun ways,
Actually,
Right?
Okay,
So the first thing that I want to talk about is breathing intentionally,
Okay?
So basically,
What you can do is this.
You breathe in,
Okay,
So close your eyes,
Okay?
And we're gonna do this little exercise.
So I want you to take a deep breath in,
Very slow and controlled,
Into your lungs,
Very slow,
Allowing all that beautiful energy in.
And now release it very slow and controlled,
Just the way we breathe in.
Hmm,
How did that feel?
Let's try that one more time.
Breathe in very slowly and controlled,
And release it the very same way.
Very good,
Very good.
That's such a,
This is such a beautiful way of balancing the chakra,
Okay?
The next thing that I can tell you to do is to balance this,
Is to really seek and speak your truth.
I mean,
That's big,
I get that,
But you know,
Is that what you need to do?
Only you know,
Because it's very,
Very personal,
Right?
That's what I love about the chakras.
It's all so personal,
Okay?
Then there are other things,
Obviously,
You can wear blue,
Like a scarf or earrings or jewelry,
Okay?
The crystals,
You know,
That you could wear are turquoise or aquamarine,
Okay?
You can,
You're gonna laugh,
Eat blueberries.
And how fantastic is it if you love blueberries,
Right?
You know?
And then,
This is my favorite part,
And this is the fun part,
You can chant or sing.
The best feeling in the world,
I think,
One of the best feelings in the world is to be in your car by yourself,
Singing your favorite song at the top of your lungs.
Now,
That,
Yes,
It's by yourself,
But you are allowing yourself to be self-expressed in terms of that,
Right?
Okay,
So now,
Today,
What we are going to do is we are going to breathe and chant,
Okay?
Now,
The note associated with this chakra is the G note,
Okay?
So,
It's G.
Oh,
Gorgeous.
And the mantra that you can chant with this,
And this is so fascinating,
Too,
Is hum,
Like ham,
But hum,
Okay?
And what is cool about this is,
Is if you think about that word,
And you know how we just did that breathing exercise,
When we accentuate the first part of the word hum,
It's very breathy,
Okay?
So,
When we're gonna chant it,
We're gonna go hum,
Isn't that amazing?
Yeah,
There are no accidents.
This is all the way it's supposed to be,
Right?
So,
Let's get ourselves comfy,
Because we're gonna chant just for a couple minutes,
Okay?
All right,
So just follow along with me,
Okay?
Hum.
Hum.
Hum.
Hum.
Hum.
Hum.
Hum.
Hum.
Hum.
Hum.
Namaste,
Friends.
Namaste.
Namaste.
Namaste.
Namaste.
Namaste.
Namaste.
