Welcome to In the Flow,
A positivity-provoking podcast designed to lift us up to that higher place to live our best lives.
We will laugh,
Cry,
Meditate,
And discuss any and all things spiritual to learn and remove any stigma surrounding spiritual gifts,
Meditation,
Prayer,
And the afterlife.
So the big question for today,
Do you make other people responsible for your own personal happiness?
That's a loaded question,
Don't you think?
Are you responsible for your own happiness?
I'll say it a different way,
Right?
Or do you think that other people are responsible?
So many people think that people in situations determine their happiness.
I think we do that without even realizing,
To be honest.
I mean,
Seriously,
Sometimes somebody will say something and it'll cut right into your heart and then you're sad.
Like the happiness is deflated,
You're done.
So it's interesting,
Right?
It's an interesting thing to consider,
Right?
Taking responsibility for how we react on a moment-by-moment basis is like everything,
Right?
I knew,
Check this out,
I knew a woman that blamed everything,
Her lot in life,
Her daily everything.
She blamed her on her divorce.
She was still taking that unhappiness of her divorce 50 years later,
Right?
Can you imagine living with that?
So many of us do.
And it's not like,
You know,
I'm not making her like wrong per se,
But we carry that.
We make the events of the past mean everything.
And they shouldn't,
Don't you think?
Right?
So what can we do to make sure that that doesn't happen to us?
And I'm not saying that I don't either,
You know,
Somebody will say something,
Somebody close to me will say something that,
And it just cuts into my heart and it's like,
You know,
It rips me in two and I make it mean everything.
But it shouldn't,
Right?
It shouldn't.
Two things about this.
Being present in the moment,
Being present in every moment is just,
I can't even,
There are no words right now,
Sitting here right now in this place,
In this room that I'm in,
Sitting here talking to you.
Nothing's wrong.
Nothing's happened.
Nobody has said anything right at this moment to make me sad.
So I am happy.
I own that happy.
I own the happy.
Right?
So being present,
Huge thing,
Right?
Then the other,
The other thing for me personally,
That whenever I consider it,
It just blows the doors off of everything,
Right?
Don Miguel Ruiz wrote a book called The Four Agreements.
And the number two agreement is my go-to.
Whenever like my daughter has something going on or somebody else has anything going on,
This is my go-to statement.
Don't take it personally.
It has nothing to do with you.
When somebody,
When somebody yells at you or if somebody cuts you off in traffic,
It doesn't have anything to do with you.
If somebody says to you,
If somebody says something cutting to you and as you go throughout your day,
It doesn't have anything to do with you.
Our heart doesn't,
Shouldn't take that on.
Don't take it personally.
Right?
This is what's to me in my,
In my world.
This is what should be taught in the schools,
Right?
There should be billboards out there with this on it.
Don't take anything personally.
Has nothing to do with you.
Whenever somebody says something or whatever,
Even if they say it to you and about you,
You know,
Like even if somebody bites at you and says,
I can't believe you did that.
Why did you do that?
That really hurt my feelings.
How many times have you heard that?
Well,
Hopefully not very many.
You hurt my feelings.
Those are your feelings.
And I'm sorry to say this,
But those are your feelings.
You're in charge of your feelings.
I'm in charge of mine.
What a thought.
We're responsible for our own happiness.
Yeah,
That's pretty deep.
That's pretty big,
Right?
So we're going to meditate on this.
How about it?
Right?
Okay.
So let's get ourselves comfortable and situated because we are creating our practice of morning meditation or if it's afternoon where you are,
Or if it's evening where you are,
Or if it's the middle of the night where you are.
We are creating this practice.
Yes.
So let's close our eyes whenever you feel comfortable.
Take a deep breath in and release it.
Gorgeous.
Perfect deep breath.
First breath of the day.
Let's do that one more time.
Really deep breath in through your nose,
Not your mouth.
So breathe in and release it.
Perfect.
Perfect.
So as we get ourselves comfortable and ready to sit in the stillness just for a few moments,
Let's begin our day with that few moments,
Those few moments of gratitude.
What can you be grateful for today?
What is it that you're grateful for?
There's always something that we can be thankful for,
Right?
Perfect.
What is it that is going really well in your life today?
So far.
For me,
I feel so much gratitude.
I know this might sound crazy.
I am so grateful that I woke up this morning because I get another day to be here and to work on my own spirituality,
Work on myself as a person,
And maybe share just a little bit of happiness with other people.
That really makes me grateful.
Your own gratitude doesn't have to be deep like that.
It can be as simple as the new pair of socks that you bought yesterday.
So our mantra for today,
I am willing to be happy now.
How beautiful is that?
I am willing to be happy now.
I am willing to be happy now.
Perfect.
So I will keep the time.
If you go through this and you forget the mantra,
That's absolutely okay.
Just come back to your breathing.
Really push the thoughts aside and come back to your breath.
And if you can remember the mantra,
I am willing to be happy now.
And let's begin.
I am willing to be happy now.
I am willing to be happy now.
I am willing to be happy now.
I am willing to be happy now.
I am willing to be happy now.
I am willing to be happy now.
I am willing to be happy now.
I am willing to be happy now.
I am willing to be happy now.
I am willing to be happy now.
I am willing to be happy now.
I am willing to be happy now.
Let's start to bring our awareness back to our bodies.
Let's start to feel that happiness creeping into our lives,
Into our being,
Into our soul.
Take a nice deep breath in and release.
Perfect.
Very good.
You can open your eyes whenever you feel comfortable.
And know that today you are going to be happy.
Right?
Be willing to be happy now.
So thank you so much for joining me.
As always,
I appreciate each and every one of you.
From my heart to yours,
Namaste everybody.
