Staying Sane In A Crazy World Talk
A podcast Laurene did to introduce recovery from BPD no meds in a Therapeutic community. Laurene explains a bit about her ways of staying sane and passes on valuable techniques. Each technique was learned in the community and is very down to earth.

Hey,
Hi lovelies,
Hi everyone,
It's Lauren here.
Now this is my first podcast,
I've never actually done a podcast.
I've run Community TV station where I've put a camera and edited my programs.
But quite honestly I think doing a podcast is probably a lot more fun and hopefully it's going to get to you guys in an easier way on someone's website.
And I don't have to put makeup on and get myself all dressed up.
I can just sit here actually in a hotel here in Malta at the moment,
Looking a little bit of a mess after my day in the sun and just put on a podcast or a few messages to help you guys have a better life and stay sane in this crazy chaotic world that we live in.
So just a little bit of a background about me so you know who I am.
Again,
My name is Lauren Hope Glory.
I was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder 10 years ago,
Went into the therapeutic community,
Came out of there seven years ago,
Total 100% in a piece.
All the treatment was done without medication because you're not allowed to have medication in the therapeutic community.
And basically you have to go inside,
You have to figure out what's wrong with you.
If you want to read about my story,
It's available out there.
You can get a book called Simply Amazing,
Which is Casey Armstrong's book and I am chapter eight.
And he goes into questions about my recovery,
How I recovered,
Why I think I recovered and a little bit about my background and everything.
But I just want to introduce myself in this podcast because as I say,
This is my first one.
I don't know what I'm doing and I hope that I can do something to service you guys,
To help you guys,
To service the world in some way,
To send out my story of recovery because I tell you something,
I am in Malta at the moment on my own,
Having a holiday here for five days by the beach.
And if it wasn't for the therapeutic community and everything I went through and my recovery,
I wouldn't have been able to do that on my own,
Not in a million years.
So my life is great on a day to day basis because I use the techniques that I learned in the community and I devised a programme called How to Stay Sane in a Crazy World,
Which is a course that I'm hoping to get out there with.
But if it wasn't for the therapeutic community,
I wouldn't have had that massive awakening.
And I'm so grateful.
And if I can get that across to you guys,
That even if you're diagnosed with borderline personality disorder,
If you live in the UK,
You can go to your doctor and you can ask,
It's on the NHS and it's free.
You can ask to be put into a therapeutic community like I was and to recover if you do the work.
So I will tell you more about the therapeutic community as we go along.
Hopefully I'll be bringing on people as well.
I don't have a clue how I'm going to do that.
So at the moment,
You're just going to have to hear the sound of my voice.
But if I can put anything across to you,
I'm going to tell you that,
You know,
If you're diagnosed,
This is just the beginning.
OK.
And I can actually say that I'm grateful that I was diagnosed,
Believe it or not,
Because without that diagnosis of complex knee disorder or borderline personality disorder,
Whether I agree with it or not,
The label,
If I had not been diagnosed,
I would not have gone into a therapeutic community and I would not have had that amazing spiritual awakening and recovery that I had.
And the only reason I had it as well was because I surrendered.
I did my work in there and it's hard work.
And somehow I got through the 18 months.
After a year of being in there,
I had this recovery,
This huge realisation.
And it's been with me for seven years since.
And within that seven years,
So much unhappy stuff has happened to me.
You would not believe I lost my beloved father three years ago.
It's actually would have been his birthday.
Yesterday would have been 98.
And I lost him.
And unfortunately,
When I lost my father,
My whole blood family cut me off.
So I lost my sister and my three beautiful nieces.
They decided that they no longer wanted me.
I was around inheritance.
And once that had gone,
That's it.
I felt completely thrown out,
Like a branch without a tree.
And that's pretty painful.
After that,
I had a serious accident because I couldn't cope very well.
But I never took medication,
I always found a way around it.
That's my journey.
You can choose your own,
But that's my journey.
I'm not a doctor,
I'm not here to tell anyone.
But I did go into the therapeutic community before that.
Remember,
This only happened three years ago.
So I did have tools to help me.
But anyway,
After dad died,
I had a serious accident.
I fell and I broke my tibial plateau on a chain,
I fell on the chain.
I had a terrible serious accident.
I wasn't allowed to even go on crutches for four months.
Terrible experience in a wheelchair,
Completely stuck in the house.
Nope,
I wasn't allowed to drive.
A lot of friends disappeared and there was no one really apart from my husband and my two cats who took care of me.
My family completely ignored it.
Very,
Very painful time.
Very painful.
But I decided to teach myself how to edit at that point because as a performer and an artist,
I wasn't able to do anything apart from do a whole show about Ida Piaf on Facebook Live in a wheelchair because Ida Piaf is one of my mentors and tells me just to get on with it.
Je ne regrette d'Arianne.
No,
Je ne regrette d'Arianne.
So you know what I mean.
So I came out of that wheelchair and that's how I was discovered by Casey Armstrong in WMAP radio.
I found him on the internet and he put me in his book.
And since then,
I've been building my recovery.
Still not 100%.
I don't think my leg ever will be.
But I get on with it every day.
I get on with the loneliness without my family.
Hurts like hell on a daily basis,
But I get on with it.
And I'm in the moment I'm in the process of creating a whole week of events with my husband as a hypnotherapist.
Mental Health Week UK.
Using creativity,
Using loads of things to help the general public in every way I can.
So there you go.
So that's just a little bit of a background about myself.
Through these podcasts,
I'm going to talk about BPD,
Complex needs disorder.
I'm going to talk about the research that's been done about it.
I feel that a lot of people have been misdiagnosed.
I'm going to talk about womb twin survivor,
Which I am.
You may be,
Particularly if you're a woman,
Which is also called vanishing twin syndrome.
I'm going to talk about nutrition supplementation.
I'm going to talk about how you may be grieving or possibly have post-traumatic stress disorder and not actually be mentally ill.
And I'm going to talk about the fact that you may even be a medium because I am.
And one of the people I know after her father died,
She started to hear voices and she didn't take herself off to the doctor.
She took herself off to a medium development group and discovered she was clairaudient.
And now she can use this to help herself and to help a lot of people in life.
So,
You know,
This thing about mental illness and diagnosis and you're all unique.
Everyone is unique,
You know,
And I'm not sure anymore about these diagnosis.
I think there's a lot that's gone wrong somewhere.
Borderline personality disorder seems to be like fibromyalgia.
When they can't find an excuse,
They give you a label and then they give you loads of medication.
So be careful.
Do your research.
Talk to me.
I know.
As I say,
I've been there.
But anyway,
Coming back to complex needs disorder or borderline personality disorder,
If you don't know what it is,
It is not bipolar.
I know nothing about bipolar apart from what I've been told.
And Casey has got bipolar.
Casey Armstrong,
Who runs WMAP radio,
Has got bipolar.
I've got borderline personality disorder,
Complex needs disorder,
Which if I get to describe this to you and I'm an expert at this condition and being an actress,
It helps me because I can jump characters.
As I say,
It's just a label.
Everyone's walking around with complex needs disorder.
Every human being is walking around with complex needs disorder to a certain degree because we live in a very stressful,
Chaotic world.
And so let me explain to you what borderline personality disorder is.
I'm going to sing it to you.
I wrote a song called the BPD song.
So this is what the doctor said to me.
He said,
You know,
When you go into Woolworths and you could have a pick and mix of different sweets and chocolates,
Well,
This is what you get when you're diagnosed as a BPD.
A little bit of agoraphobia,
A little bit of OCD,
A little bit of claustrophobia.
That's BPD.
A little or a lot of depression.
Laced when it's all about me.
Narcissism.
A cup of Tourette's,
Tourette's,
Tourette's,
Tourette's,
Tourette's.
Now what comes next?
That's BPD.
A little bit of autism,
A little bit of ID,
ID,
DHD.
A cup of paranoia.
You're looking at me.
That's BPD.
Now adding schizoid tendencies and making it all about me.
Narcissism.
A spoon of Manic States.
Got a lot on our plates with a monkey brain that I cannot train.
That's BPD.
It's all about me.
And OCD.
Did I forget anything?
That's BPD.
You see,
This is the thing.
Thank you.
The BPD song.

Glory.
But that's basically it.
You get a little bit of everything and it could go out of control a little bit and that's when you get diagnosed.
But if you can bring everything back into balance,
Then you're going to be able to cope and you're going to stay sane in this crazy world.
So I'm going to end this podcast because as I say,
I don't know how this is going to work and hopefully it'll work and I'll send it out and then we'll see.
We'll do another one.
