Are you feeling a bit stuck lately?

Perhaps you're ready to make a change,

But you're not sure where to get started.

If so,

Then you're in the right place to learn more about how to set the right goals and work toward achieving them.

Let's start first by talking about the importance of goal setting.

Setting goals offers you both long-term visioning and short-term motivation in life.

It focuses your knowledge and talents and helps you to organize your time and resources better so that you can achieve your highest gains.

It also helps to increase your sense of purpose and accomplishment so you can get more satisfaction out of life.

If you have an ambitious spirit,

Then you very likely understand the importance of setting goals.

However,

You might find yourself wanting to set many different large goals at the same time making it a lot harder to focus your attention and direct your energy.

This can lead to analysis paralysis,

Preventing you from properly acting on the changes you want to see in your life.

Learning how to set goals that are manageable without getting overwhelmed is an important part of accomplishing them.

That's why I've developed a framework to help you outline your goals and a strategy for how to accomplish them so that you can start living the life you really want.

Make sure to take out a pen and paper to jot down some notes.

The framework that we'll be discussing today is called the IPVA framework.

This is a four-step framework that is to identify,

Prioritize,

Visualize,

And act on your specific goals.

This framework is based on the eight components of wellness that surround the person so that all important areas of your life are being addressed and improved.

Let's name these eight important components now.

The first is social wellness,

Connecting with,

Interacting with,

And contributing to other people and our communities.

The second is emotional wellness,

Being in touch with,

Aware of,

Accepting of,

And able to express one's feelings and those of others.

The next is physical wellness,

A healthy body through exercise,

Nutrition,

And sleep.

The next is spiritual wellness,

Which is our search for meaning and purpose in human existence.

The next is financial wellness,

Which is continuous income and successfully managing expenses.

The next is intellectual or mental wellness,

Which is engagement with the world through learning,

Problem solving,

And creativity.

The next is occupational wellness,

The feeling of purpose and productivity in one's chosen profession.

And the last one is environmental wellness,

A healthy physical environment free of hazards as well as awareness of the role we play in bettering rather than denigrating the natural environment.

Oftentimes,

When starting a new wellness routine,

You might just focus on the physical aspect of wellness by starting a new fitness and nutrition plan.

However,

Your wellness is a lot more than that and a really important part of goal setting.

In fact,

When one of these components is off balance,

It tends to have a domino effect on the other components of wellness and may get in the way of your goals.

One of the main benefits of the IPVA framework is that it offers a big picture view on all the areas of your life that you need to work on and offers a roadmap on how to accomplish your goals.

So next,

We will break down each of the steps of the framework.

The first step is to identify.

So for each category of wellness components that we just listed,

Identify your goals and priorities.

By identifying your specific goals,

You create a target for what you want to achieve and that will help you clarify your vision and prevent distractions.

You can start by outlining your personal mission for each of the areas of wellness and then reflect on your own core values and what outcomes you'd like to accomplish.

When doing so,

Be sure to factor in your personal interests,

Talents,

And skills that can be applied to your goals.

Step two is to prioritize.

Once you have identified your mission and outlined your goals,

It's time to establish your priorities.

This will prevent you from getting overwhelmed so that you can stay focused and organized.

Here,

You'd want to rank each goal in order of importance to you.

Then you'd want to break down each goal into smaller goals and tasks.

And then you can set a timeline for each of the smaller goals building up to the larger goals.

Step three is to visualize.

Now that you have a clear understanding of your personal mission and goals,

Create a visual of them and reflect on them daily.

This will help you to stay reminded of your goals.

You can do this according to your interests and learning style.

A fun way is to design a vision board of your large goals and post it on your wall.

This can also be a fun family or partner activity with arts and crafts.

You can also write your goals down in a journal or a calendar.

In fact,

Research shows that when you write something down,

You're more likely to accomplish it.

A third option is to input your smaller and larger goals into your calendar based on the timeline that you've set.

And this will help to keep you on track and accountable.

Step four is to act.

You must act on your goals in a dedicated and consistent manner daily,

Especially since some goals take longer to get started and complete than others.

Do this by dedicating a portion of your time daily towards your goals.

To ensure that you stay consistent,

Work within your natural rhythm,

Not against it.

For example,

If you have a goal to exercise more to improve your physical wellness,

But you're not a morning person,

Then don't schedule your workouts in the morning.

Lastly,

Be sure to measure your progress so you know that you're staying on track.

Keep a journal of your goals and reflect on your progress every week.

Here are some questions that you can answer.

What are the actions you're taking to accomplish your goals?

How do you feel as you continue to progress towards your goals?

And what are the obstacles you're facing as you continue along these goals?

Remember,

The IPVA framework is just a tool to get you started on the amazing goals you want to set for yourself.

Try not to get overwhelmed and focus on one goal at a time.

You can begin working on this framework as soon as possible,

Or perhaps even on a mental health day that you have scheduled for yourself.

This can also be a fun partner activity to help you set family-related goals or partner-related goals.

Remember to have fun with this,

As this is an opportunity for you to be creative and to set higher goals for yourself.

Just one more thing to note,

That as you continue to implement the IPVA framework,

It will require you to make some important changes in your life.

If you're somebody who struggles with change,

Be sure to attend my next talk on how to accept change in your life.

Thank you so much for joining,

And I'll see you in the next talk.

Namaste.
