It is challenging to keep your attention on the subject, especially when you are bored or under pressure. This is where mindful studying techniques are useful. In this recording, I am explaining in a simple way how to practice mindful studying. A practice that can bring great benefits not only to students but also to people whose job is based on mental work and who need clarity while also dealing with a great amount of pressure. Hello and welcome.

This is Clea.

In this recording we're talking about mindful studying.

This has been one of the most helpful tools when it comes to my personal journey,

Considering especially the medical school and the fact that I'm studying in a foreign language.

What is mindful studying and what it consists of?

Mindful studying is a technique that actually helps you let go of all the stress,

All the pressure that having to study great amounts of work,

Having to study great amounts of materials brings.

So it basically consists on taking your time to relax,

To connect with yourself and to use visualization to have a better performance and to be more mindful and present,

To be more mindful and present when you study.

So how I personally apply this is I take one hour every day before I study.

For example,

If I have to study all day,

I will take one hour in the morning and meditate on how to be more present and how to study better.

In many cases it does consist on meditating with the intention to boost my performance while studying.

So closing your eyes,

Sitting in a comfortable position,

Closing your eyes and visualizing yourself having a great performance while studying and sitting with that feeling and sitting with how it is to actually study fully concentrated.

What this does is that our nervous system gets used to this process.

So instead of sitting down to study or to work and your mind starts wandering because you feel so stressed that you want to think of something else instead of being present with what you're doing,

Your body during this mindfulness practice,

During this meditation becomes connected with the feeling of the present moment and how it feels to be mindfully study or work,

To mindfully pay attention to the materials that you are trying to observe or to remember.

What happens is that as you get used with this feeling,

Now your mind is programmed.

So when you go and sit to study or to work,

You have this feeling in your body,

Your body is programmed and your mind has this clear vision.

Your mind is now programmed as well and when you sit and study it just comes naturally for you to be in the flow,

In the present moment and to study with ease.

For me this is one of the most powerful tools I have ever tried when it comes to studying because it also helps you be more aware of the time you need a break and when you are not in this flow it comes naturally for you to take a break and do something that you need to relax and to clear your mind and then you come back and it's the same process,

You are in the flow.

The only challenge is for some people it may take a while to get into the practice of it.

For example,

It may be challenging to visualize yourself studying or it can be a bit challenging to sit and meditate with this intention but as you keep on practicing it gets easier and it comes way more naturally because now you're getting used with it,

Your mind is getting used with it and you're reaping the benefits and this is a great part because the more you see a technique or practice bring results,

The more you're going to want to keep practicing it.
