You've just finished eating.
An important part of the assimilation of nutrients from your food,
Which allows you to feel more energized and alive,
Is turning on the rest and digest mechanism in your parasympathetic nervous system.
This is the part of your central nervous system that allows peristaltic activity to take place in the small and large intestine.
This is what allows for nutrients to make their way into the cells and for you to receive the full benefit from your food.
It also helps to prevent any digestive issues and it gives us a greater sense of overall well-being.
We'll spend about five full minutes just allowing the nutrients to assimilate in the food to digest well.
We'll take a few breaths in and out so you can feel the nutrients in your body.
We'll take a few breaths in and out so draw a gentle breath in through the nose and let it seep out of the mouth.
Again,
Breathing in,
Letting go,
Feeling the breath rise and fall.
You can close the eyes or let the gaze fall down towards the earth.
Allow your awareness to scan down through the back of your head,
The length of your neck,
The tops of your shoulders,
The back of your neck,
The back of your neck,
The back of your neck,
The back of your torso,
Down through your belly,
Into your pelvic floor,
The length of your legs,
The soles of your feet.
Allow your arms to fall heavy and the hands to rest heavy in the lap.
If you're having trouble rooting or grounding in this moment,
You can bring the fingertips to touch down into the earth or intestines.
Slow your breath into the space.
Imagine a gentle downward moving energy that gives your food the ability to digest well,
For nutrients to enter into the small intestine and be absorbed,
For the energy from those nutrients to begin to move out into the bloodstream after passing through the liver,
To be carried by the breath into every cell of the body,
And for the whole body to feel nurtured,
Supported,
And energized by the food you just ate.
Allow yourself a few more breaths just to sit in observation of your experience,
To feel fully present in this moment,
To let go of what's coming next or what came before,
And to feel deep gratitude for the meal that you just ate.
