Today we'll be working with the Conquer meditation technique or mindfulness technique.
So find a comfortable position,
Might be seated,
You can lay down if you can stay awake and alert.
You can have your eyes closed or open,
Whatever you prefer,
Though I find closing your eyes a little bit easier when we try to visualize the situation.
Take a deep breath in and let it go.
Another deep breath in and let it go.
Relax your shoulders,
Your face,
Your eyes and I'm inviting you to visualize a hurdle in your life,
In your sport that you want to conquer.
It might be a movement,
A play,
A feeling that might come up in a certain situation.
So just think about that for a couple of seconds and while you deciding on what you would like to work with today,
Maybe you might notice images coming up on your mental screen if your eyes are closed.
Images still might come up even with eyes open.
If you're having difficulties let's say with a forehand or a backhand,
That's for tennis or throwing a football a certain way,
I'm inviting you to really see yourself in that action of that.
If your sport uses an equipment like a tennis racket,
Golf club or anything else,
I'm inviting you to feel that in your hand.
If you're playing football maybe you can feel the gloves on your hands or in any other sport,
Shoes on your feet.
I'm inviting you to really see the movement you would like to perfect,
You would like to conquer.
Are you seeing yourself in first person?
If that's hard for you,
That's okay.
Maybe you can imagine yourself from a distance and see yourself do the motion and if you find yourself seeing yourself doing the motion wrong or not the way you would like it to be,
That's okay.
You just start from the top and try to see yourself doing it the correct way.
If you're getting frustrated,
That's okay.
Let's have equanimity with that,
Just the feeling.
Maybe take a deep breath in and let it go.
Can you spot when doing the motion a feeling in your body?
Is there any feeling associated with that motion?
Can you see the ball while doing the motion?
Where is the feeling when perfecting that motion?
So we're creating little anchors for our mind.
When we mentally rehearse things,
Our mind basically already experienced it.
So when we find ourselves in that situation,
We've already been here.
Even though it might have just been mentally,
That connection in our synopsis has already happened.
By making or seeing ourselves even make mistakes and meeting that with equanimity,
That is also a mental rehearsal.
So that we're not upset about the play or that forehand that we missed five minutes ago.
But so that we can refocus and be in the moment.
Let whatever past go and focus on the moment,
On the things we can do right now.
And with that I'm inviting you back into the room.
Wiggle your fingers and toes and whenever you're ready,
You can open your eyes.
