Welcome to this jaw tension releasing meditation.
Start to breathe in slowly through your nose and into your belly doing a couple of slow deep belly breaths right here.
Grounding you and centering you very effortlessly.
Utilizing the natural gift of the breath to center you in this moment.
As your body starts to calm down and relax so does your mind.
The symptom of jaw tension can be very uncomfortable but just as uncomfortable can be the worry,
The thoughts that we have about it.
So just breathing in slowly let's bring a sense of acceptance to our jaw.
Whatever is here let's try to accept it as good as we can.
That is pain,
That is a bit of a weird feeling,
Something's not right,
Tension.
Let's just bring acceptance in the knowledge that the resistance does not make anything better.
But instead when we get out of the way our body can start healing.
The natural balance can start to be restored.
So just holding the intention of acceptance in our jaw.
Acceptance of anything that might be here.
And being kind to ourselves in this process because often there's a lot that we're holding and maybe even some intense pain that we're dealing with.
But just remembering that whatever we resist persists.
What we can accept we can change.
So breathing calmly into your belly,
Fully here in this moment.
Now breathing some relaxation into your jaw.
On the in-breath you breathe in relaxation,
On the out-breath you breathe out tension.
We are breathing out the idea of tension,
It does not matter if there's no tension or no considerable pain here right now.
So we're breathing in relaxation,
Feeling that ripple in our jaw and spread down our neck over the shoulders and breathing out any tension.
The tension that you're releasing can come from anywhere,
The shoulders,
Wherever you feel you want to release.
Of course the focus is on giving our jaw some healing and some loving but the jaw does not exist in isolation,
It is connected with our entire body,
Especially the neck,
The shoulders,
The tongue,
The eyes.
So just being mindful of all these parts.
Being accepting and loving and just aware of what is here,
Not judging in any way.
When we get out of the way and stop resisting,
We make space for true healing.
So tuning into your jaw and really tuning into your jaw being relaxed,
What feelings come up?
What wants to protect you,
What does not want to let go?
This is completely fine,
Completely normal to have this here,
Especially if we go through difficult times in our life.
But just sit with this right now,
What is here,
What is coming up for you?
Letting it be here,
Just observing and noticing when you give it this space,
When you stop resisting,
It leaves when it's ready to.
You can use your breath to guide you with this,
Breathing calmly,
Even if feelings are a bit intense,
There's not much here that is unique to your experience.
Just use your breath to centre you,
Creating space for what comes up,
For what feelings are linked to your jaw.
We commonly clench our jaw as a protection mechanism.
It's a very ancient protection mechanism,
Back in the days we would have resolved the situation and then went our way,
But today we might not be able to resolve the situation.
Holding the grudge with us,
Holding the tension with us,
Manifesting as teeth grinding,
Clenching or tension in the jaw.
But it's really quite simple,
Just face what is here,
Give it space and let it release and keep coming back to doing this and over time you'll be able to see very good improvements and how your jaw releases this tension and restores its natural balance.
Because there's no longer anything to resist or hold onto.
There is no danger,
There is no threat,
You are safe.
So just affirm this to yourself as a last exercise for this meditation.
I am safe.
I am safe.
I am well.
I am healthy.
I am safe.
I am well.
I am healthy.
Thank yourself for taking this time today to care for yourself and your jaw.
Take in three more deep breaths,
Longer and slower.
And just see if there's any piece of wisdom and insight that you want to take with you today as you go on to do whatever you will do next.
And when you're ready,
Bringing awareness back into your body and opening your eyes.
Have a beautiful day or night.
All the best,
The Kiefer Freund team.
