Goal Setting
In today's session, Kemi Nekvapil invites us to join for a meaningful goal-setting practice through visualization. Setting meaningful goals can help you set more realistic objectives that allow you to accept where you are in the moment while also taking into consideration the life you’d ultimately like to create for yourself.

Hello and welcome to day 31 of Insight Timer's Building Healthy Habits Challenge.
Let's take a moment to get settled.
Close your eyes,
Take a deep breath in and exhale out.
Let's dive into today's healthy habit.
It is said that more than 40% of our daily actions are not conscious decisions but habits.
Habits make up for a big part of our day.
They dictate how we live,
How we perform,
Who we are and what we achieve in life.
My name is Kemi Nekvapil.
Today I will be taking you through a process of meaningful goal setting.
Making sure that our goals are meaningful to us is so important because as we know just setting the goal is not enough.
Things happen,
Life happens,
Things change,
Our priorities change,
Our responsibilities change and it can be very easy for the goal to get lost amongst it all.
But when that goal is rooted in a very,
Very deep place of who we are,
Who we want to be and who we are becoming,
It is so much easier to move toward the goal and celebrate the person we become along the way than if we have picked an arbitrary goal that we believe we should have or that other people have told us that we should have or the goal that happens to be trending right now.
The aim of this session is for you to understand what truly matters for you so that you can take the goals that are aligned with you.
Let us begin.
What you will need for this practice.
Please make sure that you have a journal and a pen by the side of you.
I invite you to lay on the floor if you are someone that practices yoga to basically put yourself in a savasana position.
If you don't know what savasana is,
You're basically lying on the floor making sure you're comfortable.
You can use any pillows or bolsters that you may need.
Maybe put one under your knees or under your head.
Take your time to make sure that you are comfortable.
Or you can just lie on the floor in a way that suits your body and your physical abilities at this time.
Now I'm going to be asking you a series of questions in this visualization.
You do not need to do anything other than hear what you hear.
And the reason I say that is you may miss some of the questions and that is okay.
Trust that you will hear exactly what it is that you need to hear.
All of the questions may give you what you need or it may be one of the questions.
I invite you to trust the process.
I invite you to relax.
We're going to begin with three deep inhalations and exhalations.
And if you're sitting in a chair,
Make sure that your feet are on the ground and that you have nothing in your hands.
And once again,
You are comfortable.
So let's inhale for the count of one,
Two,
Three.
And exhale.
One,
Two,
Three.
Inhaling from your gut,
From your abdomen,
Two,
Three.
And exhaling,
Two,
Three.
One more time.
Inhaling,
Two,
Three.
And exhaling,
Two,
Three.
And now to return your breath to a rhythm that is comfortable and natural for you.
You may be inhaling and exhaling through your nose or inhaling and exhaling through your mouth.
Whatever is comfortable for you.
And now I invite you to close your eyes.
Taking your breath at a steady pace as I take you through this session.
You are 89 years old.
You are on your deathbed.
You are about to take your final breath.
Who is in the room with you?
Who made it with you to the end?
Who is there whispering in your ear?
And who is holding your hand?
Sharing with you what you brought to them in their lifetime.
Whose energy can you feel about you and around you?
Who is wiping your forehead and who is kissing your hand?
Who made it to the end with you?
And where are you?
Have you chosen to take this final breath at home?
Have you chosen to take this final breath in a hospital?
Have you chosen to take this final breath in the middle of a forest?
If you get to choose where you take your final breath,
Where will you be?
Who did you love during your lifetime?
Who were the people that allowed you to be exactly as you are?
Fully human with all of your delights and all of your flaws.
Who allowed you to be in this lifetime?
And where did you live?
Did you find your forever home,
Your dream home?
Did you build it?
Did you spend your time with a community of other people and that's what gave you home?
Or were you nomadic during this lifetime?
Did you create home wherever you were?
Did you move from home to home?
And how does it feel in this home or in these homes of yours?
Were you someone that collected?
Did you collect beautiful pieces to surround yourself with to bring you joy and grounding and nourishment?
Or were you someone that found your nourishment and your joy in having lots of space around you?
Did you find that home was where the city was?
Or did you find that home was in the country or somewhere in between?
What home or homes did you create for yourself in this lifetime?
And where did you travel?
Did you travel once a year or maybe travel was not your thing?
Or were you someone that was constantly plotting the adventures of travel?
What countries did you visit?
And why did those countries matter?
Were they places for holiday?
Were they places to trace your family lines,
Your heritage,
Where you came from?
Were there places that sparked magic in you and a deep sense of curiosity?
Where did you travel to in this lifetime?
And what languages did you speak?
Were there languages that you brought with you from birth?
Were there languages that you learnt along the way as a child or as an adult?
How many languages did you choose to speak?
Or was there one language that felt like home?
What did you build during this lifetime?
Did you build a home?
Did you build communities?
Did you build a garden?
What did you build in your lifetime?
And what did you dismantle?
What did you pull apart piece by piece?
And why was it important for you to dismantle?
Why was it important for you to build?
What did you create in your lifetime?
Did you create music?
Did you create poetry?
Did you create a sense of home for others?
Did you create new ways of being for yourself and for others?
Did you create cakes and biscuits and joy?
Did you create meals that gave people memories?
Did you create meals that nourished yourself and nourished others?
Did you create beautiful spaces for yourself and others to be in?
Did you create holidays and memories?
Did you create beautiful,
Tension-free Christmases?
What did you create in your lifetime?
And who did you love?
Who did you love in your time here?
And who loved you in your time here?
What communities did you belong to?
What communities filled your soul to overflowing?
And what communities did you build so that others could have a sense of their soul overflowing?
Where were you brave in your lifetime?
Where did you need to be deeply brave?
And what brought you to your knees?
What were the situations that you found yourself in that brought you to your knees?
And what was the inner strength that you have built for yourself that got you back up again?
And what were the inner resources that you built for yourself so that you could ask for the support of those around you?
What gave you the most joy in your life?
What were the moments that had you clasping your heart,
Thankful for your time here,
For the experiences that you got to have with the people that you got to be with?
What brought you the most joy?
And what was fun for you?
What had you laughing so hard that your stomach ached?
Who were the people that gave you a sense of fun,
No matter where you were with them,
No matter what you did,
There was always an essence of fun?
What games did you play?
What were the games that filled you up to overflowing?
What was the best conversation that you have ever had in your life?
And why was that conversation the best?
What did it open up for you?
And what was the most difficult conversation that you had to have during this lifetime?
Why was it so difficult?
And what did it open up for you?
What are you most proud of yourself for?
What are you most proud of yourself for?
And what is your biggest regret?
What was the regret that you brought with you to the end?
And is it possible to let it go now?
Who did you draw close to you?
Who did you draw close to you like oxygen?
And who were the people with love and compassion that you had to let go of,
That you had to move away from?
And why was that important for you?
How did you move your body in this lifetime?
Was it to dance naked in the rain?
Was it to attend yoga classes?
Was it to walk with a loved one or walk alone?
Was it to walk with a loved pet?
Was it to move through your home with a sense of gratitude?
Was it to run through open forests?
Was it to run in an urban environment,
Clocking your neighborhood and the people within it?
How did you choose to move your body during this lifetime?
What nourished you the most while you were here?
What nourished you the most while you were here?
What people nourished you?
What foods nourished you?
What places nourished you?
What creations nourished you?
What joy nourished you?
What nourished you in your lifetime?
What was the most important to you?
Big inhalation and as you exhale you have just taken your last breath.
I now invite you to take three big inhalations and long slow exhalations.
Inhaling 2,
3.
Exhaling 2,
3.
Inhaling 2,
3 and exhaling 2,
3.
And now I ask you to gently open your eyes,
Pick up your journal and pen and write.
Write what came to you,
Write what you felt,
Write your answers,
Write what surprised you,
Write what moved you.
Who did you become in your time here,
In this lifetime?
Write and when you have finished writing,
Which may be a page or ten,
I invite you to set at least one goal from this place because I promise you this is the goal that gives you meaning.
This is the goal that honors who you are and who you want to be during this lifetime.
As we have come to the end of this process,
What is the goal that has revealed itself to you?
Maybe this process is an affirmation of what is important to you or maybe the goal has surprised you.
My invitation for you is to share your goal in the discussion forum.
One because it is a way of holding yourself accountable,
Declaring it to others,
But also to share with others your goal because it may spark in somebody else a goal that they have been too afraid to have for themselves or your goal will give them permission to create a meaningful goal for themselves.
I wish you a beautiful year ahead.
Take care,
Stay safe,
Be kind.

Incredible questions and I am more clear on how well I’ve done in certain areas of my life and how I can move forward to eliminate any regrets. Basically I have played it pretty safe and small. This has encouraged me to play it bigger and have more fun!
