Go ahead and start out by taking a few deep breaths,

Letting the belly get pushed out on the inhale and falling back on the exhale.

Deep cleansing breaths.

And now reflect.

What are you grateful for right now in this moment?

Just this very moment with how your life is right now.

Are parts of your body functioning really well?

Your lungs working to take in each breath?

Your heart pumping?

That you live somewhere,

Or you have friends or family or coworkers that care for you?

Maybe you like the weather where you live.

Maybe you have hot,

Clean water each morning.

Maybe you're safe,

You're out of physical danger.

Just reflect on what you're grateful for about your life right now.

At this very moment,

There are thousands of things that are working right and working well.

You might have a place to live.

Your enzymes are secreting properly.

Someone might have shown you a moment of kindness this week.

When we see the natural abundance that's part of every moment,

We're increasing our capacity to appreciate,

And we can sense that there's grace in our lives.

So what are you grateful for that's working in your life right now?

Your body,

Physical environment,

Some people in your life.

And now let's spend some time appreciating all of the people whose hearts and minds and souls went into creating this moment for us.

If you're in a room,

Think of all the people that went into creating this room.

The architects,

Painters,

Creating the paint and the color,

Painting it on the wall,

Designing the objects,

Putting in their heart into creating or designing something that's going to work for other people.

So many hearts and minds went into all the objects around us.

Or even your clothes.

So many mothers and fathers and children created each piece that's on you.

Maybe you're outside and someone's put care into either preserving the nature around you so things don't get built up there,

Or pruning or taking care of trees or paths so that people can spend time there.

Laws put in to preserve nature in different countries.

There's countless lives throughout history that have created this whole moment for you.

The inventing of things,

Creating the raw materials,

Designing,

Manufacturing,

Transporting.

All to make this moment possible for you to sense into,

See and feel and touch.

And let yourself feel a little bit of gratitude,

Or a lot.

It's hard for you to feel grateful right now.

Maybe you can muster up a little inkling.

Your chest opening,

A little heartfulness like,

Wow.

So much care and intention went into so many things around me.

All these people I don't know.

Or maybe it's easier for you to feel grateful right now.

And you just allow those sensations to swell up through your heart,

Throat.

And feel a slight smile on your face.

Appreciative that you're alive now in this generation.

Where all these things have been built up for us to enjoy in life.

And now take some moments to sense a person in your life you're appreciative of right now.

Maybe someone who's been kind of helpful,

Who's made a difference in your life.

Or a store clerk that just said a kind word.

Or smiled at you brightly.

Just pick one person that you're appreciative of their energy towards you or something they did for you.

And bring that person to mind,

See their face.

And imagine them here right now.

And think through what you're grateful for about this person.

And mentally whisper to them and heartfully whisper,

Thank you.

Really thank you.

Just sending them thanks for truly being there for you.

And now reflect on someone that annoys you a bit.

They've run you the wrong way a little bit.

Maybe irritated you.

And now take a moment to consider what you most like about this person when they're not being irritating or annoying.

What really lets you know that this person is dear?

It's a moment that they were showing their goodness.

What opens your heart when you think about them?

Their goodness.

And now sense both.

Their annoying quality and what's endearing.

And just sense this fuller picture of them.

Sense what irritates you and their goodness.

Let them both be there.

And just sense what happens in your body.

We can choose what we want to pay attention to.

And ultimately freedom comes from an open awareness and just resting in that.

And now shifting and thinking about two or three life experiences you've had that you're grateful for.

Maybe your education.

Or some part of your family.

Some skill you have.

Aspect of your creativity,

Your love.

Others in your life.

Just reflect on two or three experiences you've had that you're really grateful you've had these in this lifetime.

And just reflect on why you're grateful for these.

And how it's a gift that you've had these.

Not everyone has gotten those things in life.

It's a true gift.

Just thankful for certain life experiences.

And then now reflect on something that was very hard in your life at the time and you didn't want it.

But now you realize it made you grow and helped you get you to where you are today.

And you're a stronger,

Deeper,

Richer person for it.

So just reflect on some harder experience you've had that you've truly grown from.

And you're a richer person today.

Like a deeper,

Fuller person from having gotten through that.

And feel a little gratitude for this life experience.

How it deepened and enriched you.

It's easy to be thankful for the good things.

And a life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are thankful for the setbacks too.

Just appreciating this life that you've gotten to live.

All of the good and the bad.

The full catastrophe,

The full complexity of it all.

Just grateful that you were born at all.

And just mentally whispering thank you.

From your heart and from your mind.

Just whispering thank you to those who have helped create this moment.

To those who have touched you in your life.

And to the harder experiences and some of the harder people.

To feel gratitude.

And let your heart swell a bit.

Feeling gratitude for this life.

Thank you.

Not so much of a meditation as a fresh way to look at your life and appreciation for what’s in it already. Practical & useful for sure!

Just what I needed. Thank you!! Love the gratitude comment for my “enzymes” working...you know it’s rough when that’s the only grateful thing, it but shows there are always reasons. Sending love and gratitude to you...and all the workmanship in my apartment ;)
