Short set of breathing techniques to help purify the energy channels. Spending a small amount of time using a conscious breathing practice a day has many benefits including feeling calmer and having more energy to do what's important to you.

Hello,

It's Kelly here today.

And I wanted to take you through a breath purification series.

This has been inspired by my yoga teachers Ravi Singh and Anna Brett.

And it is a practice that I do daily now.

So I thought it would be nice to record something similar so that we could listen to it on Insight Timer.

So if you'd like to find a comfortable place to sit,

If you can sit in easy pose with legs crossed or half lotus or sit in a chair with a nice straight spine.

Place your hands in gyan mudra which is the thumb and forefinger connecting together and palms facing up.

And take a moment to gently centre yourself.

Just noticing your breath and how it feels today.

Holding an intention to ground through your tailbone on the floor and if you're seated in a chair through your feet.

Sitting up nice and tall and straight so that your spine is straight.

And now let's start with our first breath technique.

And this is called alternate nostril breathing.

So if you'd like to take your right hand and just gently with your thumb close your right nostril.

If you haven't already close your eyes.

And take three nice breaths in and out through your left nostril.

Let's do it together now.

And now gently placing your little finger to close off your left nostril.

And gently placing your left nostril as you release your right nostril.

And let's do the same thing again.

Breathing in just through the right nostril and out through the right nostril.

Three large deep breaths.

And then gently releasing your hand back down and back into Gyan Mudra.

Allow your breath to return to normal.

And now we're going to do a different version of this breathing technique where we alternate from nostril to nostril with each breath.

The visualisation with this breathing technique is as you breathe in,

You're visualising light flowing down the side of your spine.

That is the side that you're breathing through with your nose.

And on the out breath you're imagining energy coming all the way up the middle of the spine.

And then as you swap to close the other nostril,

You breathe the same down the side of the spine on the breathing zone.

And then all the way up and out on the out breath.

Beautiful light.

Clearing the nadis and the energy channels.

So let's practice this now.

Again,

Just close off your right nostril with your thumb.

Take a breath in.

And now swap over to the left nostril and breathe out and up the spine.

Breathe in.

Swap over and close the right nostril and breathe all the way out up the spine.

Take a nice breath in.

And then breathe all the way out.

And continue on with this breath.

As you breathe in,

The light runs down the side of the spine.

That you're breathing through the same side as your nose.

And as you breathe out,

It runs up the middle of your spine.

Your focus is up and in towards your third eye.

And let's practice now.

Allow your breath to be low and light.

And although you're sitting straight,

Allow your body to stay relaxed to enhance the breath.

Good.

Allow the breath to return to normal.

And still be conscious of how your breath is feeling.

Now we're going to practice long deep breathing with the intention that we're breathing in light and prana from the universe.

And we're breathing out any fear,

Stress,

Worry or anything at all that doesn't serve us any more.

Get comfortable.

Allow your body to feel relaxed.

And when you're ready,

Breathe in the light on your in breath.

Now release anything that needs to go can go on the out breath.

The breath is actually in three parts that starts with your inhale,

You allow your belly to expand and up through the ribs and chest and finally to the throat.

And then on the exhale,

Release from the throat down through the chest and down into the top.

And then the tummy,

Just tucking the tummy in a little bit on that final part of the out breath to release all the old air.

And the aim is to make this breath into one continuous flow.

Breathing in the light and energy.

Breathing out any negative thoughts or feelings or anything that no longer serves you.

And then reap the rewards of conscious breathing.

The next breath we're going to use is to empower your solar plexus.

The centre of will and action.

If you like,

You can lightly place your hands over your solar plexus as you do this.

Now imagine as you're breathing in,

You have a beautiful sun in your solar plexus.

It's bright and beautiful and with each breath you're charging up your sun and on your out breath,

You're allowing the sun to be expanded and empowered.

Let's practice this now,

Taking a nice breath in visualising the sun.

Feeling bright and enhanced by the breath and breathing out as the sun expands and flows through the rest of your energy body.

Breathing in,

Feeling the sun becoming hotter and more empowered.

Breathing out,

Feel the sun expanding and flowing through the rest of your body.

If you're ever feeling weak or out of balance,

This is a perfect breath to practice for 3 to 5 minutes.

Notice the heat building in the solar plexus.

The solar plexus sits just above your navel.

And we're going to take two more of these solar plexus empowering breaths.

Breathing in,

Beautiful radiant sun breathing out,

Flowing into your energy systems,

Your body.

Breathing in,

Feel the warmth and breathing out,

Allowing that sun to expand and empower you.

And then bringing your breath back to normal.

And now we're going to finish with an empowering breath.

This is called breath of fire and it's short,

Sniffing action through the nose.

This is a demonstration here.

It's a very easy breath to do,

It will give you energy.

So let's practice it now.

The key is to keep your diaphragm relaxed and allow breath to expand.

This will oxygenate your blood.

Breathing in,

Feel the warmth and breathing out,

Allowing that sun to expand and empower you.

The out breath is a slightly more forceful out breath and then the in breath takes care of itself.

Now take a nice deep breath in.

Breathe all the way out.

Letting your breath into a prayer position over your arm and allow the benefits of this breathing to be with you now.

This is called breath of fire.

Breathing in and out.

Breathing out and out.

Breathing in and out.

Breathing out and out.

Breathing out and out.
