In session 33, the final session of this series, we discover that our highest self is always here and available to us. No matter where we are on the 'up and down' path of being human, we are uplifted, comforted and humbled by the ever presence of the Most Dear. This meditation includes a guided visualization. The Spiritual Recalibration Series (SRS) is designed to help you expand your awareness into a new, more open, curious and expansive way of being in daily life. This impactful series comprises 33 sessions, each with a short topic (the recalibration) followed by guided meditation. Meditations include affirmations, visualizations, and brief periods of quiet, musical stillness.

Okay,

Welcome back to the Spiritual Recalibration Series.

Thank you for embarking on this series and opening yourself to a new way of being.

My name is David,

And this is Session 33,

Divine Humility.

Find a comfortable seat in a space where you can allow yourself 20 minutes or so,

Undistracted,

To focus just on you.

A quick reminder,

To get the most out of this series,

Please be sure you've listened to the Welcome Session,

Session Zero.

Here we go.

So this little bit here about Divine Humility,

I'm going to tell you a short story.

It's kind of a long story,

But I'm going to make it very short,

Or short enough.

So I want to tell you guys,

I'm going to out myself right now.

I lost it the other day,

Lost it.

I was at the soccer fields,

And my older daughter was playing,

She plays varsity soccer,

And she was playing against a really hard team,

And they were down 2-0,

And it was only kind of in the first half.

So it had the makings of becoming a slaughter.

And my daughter was playing center back,

Sweeper,

The last defender before the goalie.

And I know how she takes that soda,

Like if the other team scores goals,

She's not used to other teams scoring goals,

But this is a really good team.

And I was watching,

And it was 2-0,

And then the referee called a penalty in the box.

The penalty was on my daughter.

What that means is the other team got a penalty shot.

And in high school varsity soccer,

You almost always make that shot,

Unless the girl who kicks it over the net,

Really hard to stop as a goalie.

So it was going to be 3-0,

And at that point,

The game was going to be out of hand.

When he called the penalty,

I lost it.

I was yelling at him,

To the point where the coach of the opposite team was pointing at me to the ref like,

He needs to go.

Like lost it.

Mm-hmm.

I know.

I know.

Why do I tell you this?

I tell you this specifically so I can tell you what my daughter said to me after the game.

Now,

Mind you,

I have taught meditation to the girls on the soccer team,

To the families in this soccer community,

Right?

My daughter also plays club soccer,

And her coach's wife,

We were kind of chatting after the game,

And she said,

Yeah,

I was on the side,

Because I was on the opposite side from where the families were.

And she said,

Yeah,

I was saying,

David didn't do his breathing.

Yeah,

No,

I didn't.

No,

I didn't at all.

So afterwards,

I was feeling what I was feeling about that.

And my daughter,

Interestingly,

Didn't hear.

The kids are so in the game,

They didn't hear the whole,

She didn't hear that.

She said,

Dad,

Really?

You did that?

He said,

Well,

What happened?

She wanted me to tell the whole story,

And I was like,

Yeah,

That's what happened.

And what she said to me was,

She said two things.

First,

She said,

You're a parent.

You're supposed to lose it.

So that was good.

And then she said,

You know,

Dad,

You're human.

You can't be all Zen all the time.

Thank you.

You're human.

And this is where this idea comes in that I want to chat with you for just another minute or two or three before we do our visualization.

This idea of being human,

We can start to think of ourselves,

Well,

I think we've spoken before about this idea of your true self and your false self.

I think it was in that Richard Rohr,

Father Rohr speaks about that.

And so the false self is really who we're identified with most often.

It's who we see in the mirror most often.

That it's the part of us that has,

It's the roles that we ascribe to in life,

How we see ourselves,

Father,

Son,

Sister,

Brother,

Worker,

Employer,

Employee,

Professional,

Not professional,

College graduate.

We have a past,

We have an ancestry.

We are of a certain age and a certain gender,

All that stuff that we see kind of as our,

As our self.

And that's,

That's the self.

That's the,

That's,

That's the self that worries,

That overthinks things,

Spends time thinking about the past and concerns about the future.

And that's,

And this is what I heard father Rohr say that,

And I don't know if it was an interviewer in that,

In that book,

But when,

When you get it wrong,

When you fail,

Yeah,

I did that.

When you get it right,

When things go perfectly,

Just as anyone would want them to go.

I know I didn't do that.

Not the eye that we were just talking about.

Every now and then that true self,

That highest self,

However you want to think about that,

However is comfortable for you thinking about that,

Your highest potential,

That part that we've spoken of,

That's more than,

That's other and part that's always there that most often we forget about.

So knowing that when things are done just right and allowing and accepting this humanness,

This being human,

This having this human experience with all of its ups and downs,

Ins and outs,

Successes and failures,

Um,

That's that where I start thinking about the word,

The phrase divine humility,

Because what,

When I was,

When I was completely beholden to my emotions and reactive,

Not my best self on that soccer field,

That was humiliating.

When we get humiliated,

That's,

That's the,

That's our identity.

That's our ego being humiliated,

But that's not the humility that I'm referring to here.

This humility that I'm referring to here is that awareness of that something beyond ourselves that is always here,

Making everything good,

The pure goodness that has no opposite,

The all as well.

And I also tell you that story to be human over here,

Right?

It'd be very easy for very easy,

You know,

If you've come to one or two or more of these sessions to,

Oh,

He's so peaceful,

He's so calm,

Just a human.

If you're seeing peace,

If you're feeling peace,

That's your peace,

That's your calm.

Don't ascribe to me or anyone else more because it's within you,

You wouldn't be able to see it otherwise,

By all means,

Keep coming on to these sessions,

You know,

Use this,

Use this,

But just know that the peace that you feel is within you.

All right,

So if you're just in our last few minutes here,

We'll do a short visualization just to focus on that which is within you.

So place your feet flat on the floor if you're sitting in a chair,

Otherwise just in a comfortable position when you can sit nice and upright,

Relaxed,

Upright,

Shoulder blades gently drawn together,

Shoulders relaxed,

See if there's any tension there in your shoulders.

And if you notice any tension in your shoulders or upper back,

See if you can take a breath into that area,

See if a little bit of that will release or all of it.

Close the eyelids gently,

Let your eyes be soft behind your closed eyelids,

Allow your breath to flow naturally however it wants to.

Allow your tongue to fall away from the roof of your mouth,

Relax your jaw,

Allow your attention to be drawn to the center of your chest,

Your heart,

Allow yourself to see there green.

Choose your favorite color green,

Emerald,

A bright shining emerald,

The color of the forest,

The color of leaves on flowers and plants,

The most beautiful green you can imagine.

Allow that green to be right there in your heart,

Allow yourself to see all the different shades of the green and now allow that green to expand upward,

Upward towards your face and the top of your head and outward towards your shoulders and arms in both directions.

Allow that green light to begin in your heart and expand throughout your whole body and then softening the edges of your body,

Allow that light to expand outward beyond you into the space around you,

This green that is the love in your heart,

Your care and your compassion,

The purity of the love within you.

Allow yourself to see it and feel it and know it,

Now you can let go of the visual of the green but stay with this feeling,

This feeling of that which is within your heart and within you always,

For just a few moments,

Good,

Take an intentional inhale through your nose and then exhale through your mouth,

Prepare to come back to the space where you are and you're welcome to stay like this for as long as you like or when you're ready you can flutter open your eyes.
