Standing Posture or Wuji is the most important form in Qigong. It helps us to develop a good posture and strengthens the legs and the waist. Standing practice is both active and passive, both Yin and Yang. We turn into standing practice in order to collect our often scattered mind and bring suppleness to our body, mind, and spirit.

Today we are going to practice standing posture,

Also known as emptiness stance or simply WUJI.

WUJI is a stance taken before any other form begins and is the most important posture to learn in Qigong.

Let us begin by standing feet shoulder distance wide.

Your feet are pointing straight ahead.

Begin to take long even smooth deep breaths into your lower abdomen.

Now bend your knees slightly.

Relax your arms by your side leaving a small gap between them and the sides of your body.

Allow your tailbone to descend towards the earth while the crown of your head rises towards the sky.

See if you can relax your entire body as you stand.

Place the tongue lightly against the roof of the mouth behind your teeth.

Allow your teeth to close without clenching.

Soften your gaze and your eyes can be open or closed.

I also invite you to create an inner smile.

We are going to remain here for another minute and as our feet stand firmly on the earth and our head lift towards the sky.

Our breath is long and full.

You can spread the toes and balance the weight on your feet evenly.

In Taoist philosophy the human body is seen as a channel between heaven and earth.

To practice Wudhi we draw on principle of nourishing our roots.

As we study the physical body the mind can also become calm and focused.

Relax the front of your torso and try to expand the back of your body along the entire spine.

To finish we are going to move slowly and gradually by starting to straightening our legs.

Relax your hands down and hold one wrist with the other hand behind your back and massage the bottoms of your feet by rolling your weight across one foot and then another.
