
Awareness As Water

This practice cultivates presence and mindfulness of the whole body & ends with metta, loving-kindness. An exploration of the body is embarked upon like a sailor at sea. Using the element of water and liquid like awareness this explorative body-scan of the entire body cultivates effortless presence and expansive awareness. This practice will leave you feeling content and whole.
Transcript
When the bell goes off,
We'll begin meditating,
But just get nice and planted in your seat.
In a comfortable position,
Keeping your spine nice and long.
Take a deep breath in.
And exhale through your open mouth.
Another deep breath in,
Filling up all the way.
Exhale.
Filling up with one more deep breath.
Exhale.
Let go of all the tension in your body,
Especially in your neck and shoulders.
Let your face relax.
Maybe bringing a gentle smile to your face.
And feeling how a gentle smile affects the eyes.
Allowing your awareness to feel the top of your head.
And just feeling any tingling or sensation at the top of the head.
And allowing your awareness,
Like warm liquid,
To just drip down the face.
Noticing any sensations within the face,
Within the head.
Allowing this awareness to drip down into the neck and the throat.
Feeling the pit of your throat.
And letting this awareness expand out to the shoulders.
Feeling the tops of the shoulders.
And then all the way down both arms,
Letting this liquid-like awareness just flow down the arms.
Feeling any sensation in the arms.
And then concentrating your awareness in your hands.
Feeling any vibrating,
Any tingling.
Whatever is present in your hands,
Feel them from the inside out.
And just taking this moment to appreciate both your hands for all they do for you.
And pulling your awareness from the hands up the arms back to the tops of the shoulders.
And then feeling the shoulder blades behind the back.
Feeling where they sit in your back.
Seeing if you can relax even more there.
Releasing any tension and just keeping a slow,
Rhythmic breath.
As you let this awareness expand from the back through the front of the chest,
Just feeling the upper chest as you breathe.
By the collarbones.
Maybe even sensing the beat of your heart.
And letting this liquid-like awareness drip down inside your abdomen,
Feeling your internal organs.
Feeling your breath just naturally massaging your internal organs as you breathe in,
Condensing them.
And as you breathe out,
Giving the internal organ space.
Maybe taking a few deeper breaths here just to really feel that massage of the breath internally.
Really sink in now to the pelvic bowl.
Those two big hip bones.
And how they're supporting you right now in your seat.
Feel that structural alignment of your bones.
And sense your breath all the way down into this part of your lower abdomen.
Keeping the warmth of awareness and letting it drip down the legs,
Feeling the thighs all the way into the biggest bone,
Your femur bone.
Feeling into your knees.
Letting awareness rest in both your knees.
And then dripping softly,
Smoothly down the calves,
Through the shins,
And into the ankles.
Feeling both ankles,
Then into the soles of the feet,
From your heels to the ball of your foot.
And then with a more acute awareness,
Just starting with the left foot.
Bring this awareness to the big toe of the left foot.
Then the second toe,
The third toe,
The fourth toe,
And finally the pinky toe.
Feeling all five toes on the left foot.
And then letting your awareness hop over to the right foot.
Feeling the right foot,
Awareness from the inside out.
Sensing the big toe of the right foot,
Then the second toe,
The third toe,
The fourth toe,
And the pinky,
The baby toe.
Letting this awareness fill all five toes on the right foot.
And then balancing this awareness between your right and left foot,
Feel both feet evenly and fully.
And now like this warm liquid has started to boil,
And now it's steaming,
Let this awareness steam up your body.
Filling from the feet,
Letting this steam fill up the legs,
Both legs evenly filled with this steam-like awareness.
Permeating all muscles,
Bones,
Connective tissue.
Letting this awareness steam up into that pelvic bowl.
Feeling again the breath in the abdomen as the steam rises up through the internal organs.
The steam of your awareness through the ribs as you breathe in your lungs.
The steam permeating the breath you breathe,
Your organs,
Your muscles,
Your bones.
Letting it rise up into the upper chest.
Filling both your arms all the way down into both of your hands.
Collecting at the pit of the throat.
And then rising through the neck.
Letting this steam fill your face and your head,
Your skull.
And allowing your whole body to be filled with this steam.
Hold your whole body in awareness.
Your entire body in this wakeful steam.
And just breathe here.
If thoughts come,
Just notice them and let them pass.
If you hop on a train of thought,
Coming back to the awareness of this steam-filled body.
The steam of your awareness.
Feeling any places of tension.
Any places that feel pleasant.
Feeling the whole spectrum of sensation in your body.
And just listening to the sensations in your body.
There is nowhere to go and nothing to be done.
Just rest in this awareness.
Taking this moment to truly be with yourself.
And acknowledging what that feels like right now.
To just sit here.
Doing nothing.
Being aware of the spectrum of sensation in your body.
We'll close this practice with a felt sense of meta.
So draw your awareness into your heart center.
Pulling all of the steam and condensing it into the heart center.
All those bubbles of steamy liquid awareness.
Condensing into one liquid ball in the heart center.
And as you cultivate this liquid ball of awareness in your heart center.
Just allow love to enter this ball of awareness.
Allow love to be felt in your heart center.
You don't need to conjure it up.
It's already there.
Just let it blossom.
Let it permeate this ball of awareness in your heart center.
And as you feel this love growing in your heart.
You might imagine this ball of liquid percolating.
Or having little bubbles pass through it.
Little bubbles of love.
And just taking note of what this feels like.
And as the bubbles start to grow faster,
Start to grow bigger.
This liquid in your heart center starting to boil with love.
Getting warmer.
And starting to expand from the chest out.
Going through different states of matter from the liquid back to that steam,
That gaseous state.
Letting this love-filled awareness again fill your entire body.
Your arms,
Your hands,
Your legs,
Your feet completely filled with this loving awareness.
Feeling where you're seated.
And grounding this awareness into your being,
This loving,
Accepting awareness.
Feeling your face.
And returning to a smile.
And with this smile,
Silently repeat to yourself with your whole body and awareness.
May I be happy.
May I be well.
May I be at peace.
May I know love.
Allowing each one of those statements to plant a seed in your conscious awareness.
And allowing those waters of love to nourish these seeds so that they grow in your life.
Repeating again silently.
May I be happy.
May I be well.
May I be at peace.
May I know love.
Taking a deep breath in.
And out.
Closing the meditation with the hands together at your heart.
And just tucking your chin and bowing your head to that divine spark within you.
