Cultivating Patience & Contentment
This practice opens with a short poem followed by a guided journey into your inner temple. Throughout this journey, we focus on cultivating patience and contentment through pranayama practices and visualizations. This is deep healing work and as always, I would recommend drinking plenty of water before and after! Please let me know what did and didn't work for you. Enjoy! In gratitude, Jonathan

Then there's that feeling that you get when you know the universe is testing your limits.
It's the chill that hits your skin at 30 below,
And the fiery force of volcanoes as you boil over.
Bound there at the grieving of death,
And drawn to the dawn of new beginnings,
Ethereally bound to every present moment.
Patience is a virtue best learned by the torture.
It's that cataclysmic action of shifting your perspective.
No one said that this would be easy,
Or hard.
This thing just happened.
We're all here just doing the same thing.
If we look to the commonalities amongst animals,
We can admire various animals and the patients they carry.
We can find compassion and resilience all in the wild.
However,
Within our species,
We see that all of our spoken sages were patient.
We see scientists become patient as they develop research.
But we as a people are becoming less and less patient,
Severing our ties to other species,
Other humans,
And even in severe cases,
From ourselves.
The internal dialogue that you have,
And the patience you have with yourself,
Have a direct correlation to how patient you are with others.
If you cannot meet yourself without judgment,
Conflict,
Contempt,
Guilt,
Or anger,
How do you suppose you would help someone in those same situations?
To change the perspective,
It just takes a few deep breaths,
Faith,
And patience.
From there,
You can bring to the conscious the things you are or want to be.
For example,
Honest,
Pure,
Clean,
Compassionate,
Humble,
Resilient,
Faithful,
Divine.
And then by making this conscious shift in dialogue,
The external dialogue that may have been distracting begins to shift as well to that more patient perspective.
Cultivating patience is the art of letting go and connecting to all things that which is the reason why we were born.
Let's begin now by taking a few deep grounding breaths in and out through the nose,
Becoming present in your space,
Shifting the energy and awareness inward.
And as you breathe in and out of the nose,
You shed the layers of discord from your daily life.
Like peeling an onion layer by layer,
Releasing any feelings of resentment,
Grief,
Anger,
Denial,
Or disbelief.
Take just a moment now to acknowledge your practice as a service,
A service to yourself and to others.
Receive gratitude from the universe and yourself for the devotion and love that you show every time you show up for yourself.
Let go now of any thoughts or feelings that may be bonding you away from contentment.
And initially these thoughts may be very loud and distracting,
And perhaps there are even external noises and distractions.
But with patience and your next exhalation,
Allow those ideas to drift off into the background out of your conscious mind.
Take another deep breath in,
Hold it at the top,
Draw your tailbone down,
Your ribs down,
Then your chin down,
Closing the body locks.
Here at the top,
Cultivate an intention of peace,
Patience,
Contentment,
And anything else that will serve you.
Slip in some more air,
Hold the breath.
Now out through the mouth,
Slowly releasing your breath,
Creating an audible sigh,
Letting go of any worries or tensions that may still be present in the body,
In the mind.
Let's take two more of those breaths.
Let's take a nice deep breath in,
Filling up the tummy,
Filling in the chest,
And holding it at the top,
Drawing the tailbone down,
Ribs down,
Chin down,
Closing the bondus.
Hold your intention and sip in some more air.
Open your mouth.
Let it go.
Last one,
Just like that,
Filling up the tummy,
Expanding in the chest,
Lifting all the way up towards the ceiling or the sky,
And holding the breath with your intention at the top.
Let it go,
Continue to ground down with some breathing in and out of the nose.
Thor counts in,
And Thor counts out.
Close your eyes if you haven't already,
And take in the air that which surrounds you.
Fill up your tummy,
Fill up your chest,
And then exhaling it out through either the mouth or a gentle ujjayi,
Releasing out through the nose.
Allow yourself to fully come to and absorb this moment in the universe.
If you haven't already,
Begin to gently constrict the back of your throat,
Activating your ujjayi breath,
Continuing to breathe in and out through the nose,
Full,
Whole,
Rhythmic,
Even,
And soft like ocean waves.
As you inhale,
Feel the cool,
Healing whiteness that which surrounds you.
Enter you,
And fill your being with light.
On your exhale,
Feel the warmth your breath brings you,
And the warmth that you bring the world.
In your mind's eye,
Peacefully descend down onto your skin,
Below yourselves,
And into the very molecule that make up your being.
Feel the energy that which you are.
Dig deeper,
Becoming now on the same level as the atoms that make up the molecule that make up the fabric of your being.
Allow yourself to become one of these elementary particles,
Spinning in a chaotic electromagnetic field of energy.
Make this moment now to transcend space and time,
Going deep,
Cosmically within yourself,
Coming out the other end of another universe into the presence of the Tree of Life.
Walking up,
You feel her roots buried deep into the soil,
Digging down into the ground,
Grasping onto the core.
Her trunk right in front of you,
Large,
Abundant,
Marvelous,
And maternal.
Her bark gets warming,
And you smell it.
Her echoes harmonies with the knowledgeable aquarium wind that's shimmering through her leaves.
Her branches,
Long,
Radiate out in all directions towards the heavens,
Reaching and soaring deep into the ethereal,
Magical,
Heavenly space above,
Spreading her hands out,
Reaching for the sun-ha energy and the moon-za energy.
Allow yourself to float up into the clouds of her magically wandering branches,
Coming to a supple,
Nourishing chair amongst the clouds,
Leaves,
And branches.
Settle your seat.
Take another deep breath in through the nose,
And out through the mouth,
Resuming your uncha'i breath into the mouth,
And out through the mouth.
Lounging in your cloud chair,
You notice off in the distance a safe container which houses your sacred temple.
Your sacred temple is the space within you where you come to commune with your highest self,
Your innocent inner child,
The divine gods and goddesses,
Your teachers,
Your healers,
Your friends,
Your family,
And of all those things that which serve you.
As you see fit to do so,
And when you see fit to do so,
At your own pace,
Approach the temple.
You may float over,
Walk over,
Run over,
Teleport over,
Or any other method you find suitable.
You may pick a few different methods.
You may even skate over,
Pogo stick over,
Perhaps you bungee jump over,
Or skydive over.
Allow your inner child to choose.
And when you arrive to the temple,
At its gates,
A grand guardian of light comes before you,
And he speaks unto you heavenly words of wisdom.
Om mani pane,
Om mani pane,
Om mani pane.
Gifting you with divine healing,
Blue light,
That which clears your system and sheds your body,
Mind,
And spirit of all of the things that do not serve you.
Looking forward now,
In through the gates of the sacred temple,
You come across its grounds.
There are various different structures and different gates,
And many different places and activities that which could lead you on journeys and exotic travels,
Finding the most beautiful destination.
As you continue to walk through the temple grounds,
You come across a gate leading into an ancient Amazonian garden.
Your hand catches the golden gates that have the ayahuasca vines and tangle it all through their linking.
Gently float or walk or proceed through the gates.
As you wander,
You notice the many exotic fruits and herbs,
Plants that just catch your eye,
Elaborate colors,
Smells,
Anything to catch the senses.
Any plants or herbs,
Fruits that call out to you,
Explore them,
Take them in,
Perhaps even eat them.
And let this be your own internal medicine,
The things that you need.
Off the distance,
You hear animals playing,
You run toward them and come to a clearing with no trees,
Only white smoke of contentment.
You peacefully settle down into a comfortable seat,
Cultivating contentment and patience.
Observing the breath.
Now as you observe the breath,
Wisdom beckons your mind.
Realizing that all of the external observations that which you notice in your Amazonian forest,
Realizing that these observations,
All of the beautiful qualities inside you,
And that there are endless beauties to be discovered within your own divine,
Infinite being.
As you breathe on the jungle floor,
The jungle breathes with you.
Together as one breath,
You and the jungle circulate the white smoke farther and farther away.
Unveiling a circle of your friends,
Family,
Teachers,
Healers,
And gods.
All of you patiently seated in contentment,
Breathing with the jungle,
Channeling the prana,
The white smoke,
And cleansing one another.
Together smudging the rivers,
The oceans,
All bodies of water.
Your circle's prana is so content and so peaceful that it spreads the beautiful smoke around the world.
Strangely,
Gracefully,
Peacefully cleansing the entire planet.
Allow yourself to sit content with your breath for a few more moments,
Feeling Mother Earth nourish you as you nourish her.
On your left shoulder,
A small hand materializes.
Physically take your right hand and place it on the small hand on your left shoulder.
Instantly you know it is your inner child,
And they begin to play right in front of you.
Allow yourself to absorb any lessons they wish to present to you,
And any wisdom that they wish to give you.
And with your left hand,
Place that on your lower abdomen,
Your lower belly,
And feel the fullness of your breath as you inhale through the stomach,
And through the chest,
And out through the mouth.
Let's continue to do this as the inner child plays in front of you,
Filling up the tummy,
Filling up the chest,
And out through the mouth.
Continue to breathe like this.
Continue to breathe like this,
And in your mind's eye,
Take your inner child's hand and allow them to walk you out of your garden,
Giving you an abundance of gifts and love along the way back to the gate from which you came.
They bring you to the guardian of light,
One of which you see more closely and realize is also a reflection of your divine true self.
In a circle,
The three of you bring your hands to prayer position.
Physically bring your hands to prayer position,
And begin to rub your hands together,
Creating some heat,
Forming a new ethereal portal for you to leave your sacred temple here.
Place your hands over your eyes and feel the warmth of your hands.
As soon as you open your eyes into the cups of your hands,
Peacefully leave your inner world and come back to the present reality.
Deep breath in,
And let it out through the mouth.
Deep breath in and stretch your hands up overhead,
And exhale your hands back down,
Heart center.
Bow your head,
Chin to your thumb.
With deep gratitude,
Thank yourself for showing up to today's practice.
Thank your guardians,
Your inner child,
Your teachers and your healers,
Your gods and goddesses.
Thank them all for being there with you,
For you.
Feel the gratitude for this practice wash over your body,
The gratitude for the practice and contentment that you cultivated,
The patience and contentment that you cultivated in today's garden,
Resting in gratitude in your heart.
Finding also a space of gratitude for the trials that test your day to day,
That test your patience and contentment.
Finding gratitude for these moments,
For they serve to teach a lesson,
To strengthen your connection with yourself and purge you of your impurities,
Growing you into a deeper,
More mindful and more mature human.
Lastly,
Thank you for teaching me and receiving all that which I have to offer from this meditation.
Sat Naam.
