The purpose meditation to reach a state free from suffering.
To reach the state where we are free from suffering in Pali is pronounced Nibbana,
Which we call Nirvana.
Suffering arises out of your desires.
To free yourself from suffering,
You gotta pause all your desires.
You gotta pause all your intentions about wanting to do something or needing to do something.
You gotta pause all your desires.
You gotta pause all your desires.
However,
Truth be told,
There's nothing that we need to do.
We need to do something to reduce our self-confidence.
We need to do something to reduce our self-confidence.
We need to do something to reduce our self-confidence.
We need to do something to reduce our self-confidence.
We need to do something to reduce our self-confidence.
We need to do something to reduce our self-confidence.
We always practice Zen word capitalist We always practice Zen guest After As if an animal hibernates,
That animal pauses all action activities.
However,
Since it has to maintain its life,
It does breathe.
So our thoughts must pause.
In short,
All action activities are paused except the breath.
So in short,
All action activities are paused except the breath.
Pause all cognitive functions including your intentions,
Desires,
Needing to do something except for mindfulness.
We can't get to that state immediately.
But getting to that state will allow us a true full rest without suffering.
We can't get to that state without suffering.
So in trying to get to that state,
Imbuing some thoughts or actions with meaning is not the right way to go about it.
We can't get to that state without suffering.
We hear things about my head nods or my back bends forward without me knowing.
There's nothing you can do about that.
But you can't not intentionally and consciously dip your head or dip your waist or back.
Likewise,
You can't stop random thoughts from coming up into your head.
But you cannot imbue those thoughts with meaning and chase after those thoughts.
Because if you chase after those thoughts,
Then you have not paused.
You're just working in a seated position.
So meditation is pausing and pausing signifies a full rest.
So from that perspective,
I want you to approach meditation as an experience in full rest with everything that's on pause.
Whatever happy memories come,
Unbidden,
Whatever great ideas you come,
Do not imbue those with any further meaning or chase after them.
In the midst of this spacious and really idle mind,
In the midst of peace and relaxation,
All you are being aware of is the breath coming in and going out.
You can't just go out and do what you want,
But you can do what you want.
So that covers any desires to do well in meditation or to want some kind of end benefits of meditation.
