This solo episode was recorded with lots of heart and intention. We're talking about how to overcome self-doubt, imposter syndrome, a lack of worthiness, and anything else that keeps you from living as your highest self (what I call your You-est You). When you feel those feelings of imposter syndrome or self-doubt creep up, it's essential to stop and breathe and remember that you're either in love or fear. This is powerful inner wisdom and information to help you simply choose love or fear.

Hello U.

S.

U.

Listeners.

This is Julie Riesler,

Your host,

And I always feel like I'm talking to my brothers and sisters in my soul family.

So wherever you are,

Wherever this might find you,

I first want to wish you a very,

Very happy new year.

Happy 2021.

I am going to be doing this episode,

And I've committed to one episode a month that will be just with you and me,

Yours truly.

And I will share that this came out of quite a few of you asking for me to speak more and do more about my own thoughts and stories,

And I was really reluctant and realized that probably a good place to start is around this whole space of feeling,

The feelings of,

You know,

Of wondering,

Do I have enough to say or is it good enough?

And you know,

The idea of needing to have other guests.

I love having guests on this show so much.

It's a gift.

I love meeting so many spectacular people and owning that there are things that I would like to share and say that could be very helpful.

And so owning my own worth.

And I'm hoping that as you listen,

That of course everything I say is a mirror and is for you to really take in yourself.

And so what we're going to be talking about today is about overcoming this,

Not just imposter syndrome and self-doubt,

But also the necessity of standing firm in your worthiness,

Knowing that you are worthy regardless of your accolades or the money in your account or whatever's going on in your life,

That you and I were worthy just because.

And so I thought,

What a great topic,

As uncomfortable as it is,

It's really important to talk about this and it's interesting.

For those of you who might know,

I have two books,

Get a PhD in You and the Get a PhD in You Business Edition.

And I'm actually working on my third book now.

The working title is Who Does She Think She Is?

And you know what?

It's all about this.

And it's funny because I'll tell you something,

You go write a book,

Especially if it's nonfiction,

And I'm going to guarantee you all of your crap is going to come out in front of your face.

And so often I believe,

When we're really committed,

Really,

Really saying like,

Yep,

I'm here to do my inner work and to evolve and grow,

Then of course,

Those conversations,

Those limited beliefs,

Those things that we say to ourselves,

But I've been saying to myself,

It's a lessening level,

But it's still there.

It keeps coming up.

And the more that I interview luminaries for the book and talk about self-doubt and imposter syndrome and worthiness,

The more it's in my face.

And so I thought,

You know,

I've got to walk the talk and do what I am maybe uncomfortable with,

But to speak today and to share with you some thoughts about worthiness around overcoming this imposter syndrome.

And what I see,

I'll give you a little quick thought,

The remedy I really believe is being more,

Less doing,

Hence why I'm wearing my BT.

And it's also connecting with your higher self,

Your USTU with something greater than yourself,

Which I call actually a different word every day,

The divine,

Universe,

Source,

God,

Goddess,

Higher power,

Whatever it works for you.

As I always say,

Take and leave what you like,

Right?

So take what you like,

Leave the rest.

Something that I say does not speak to you,

Of course,

Let it go.

But I did want to just share.

I think that this is something that I'm not alone with this and it's a good place to start.

So what I've been noticing is as I'm growing my business and this podcast and writing this book,

I keep coming up with those conversations around,

Well,

I don't have X amount of followers yet or as many people on my email list that I should,

And there's all these little things that will pop up that could deter me,

Like reasons.

And I would even say the belief that you have to be at a certain place in order to make an impact.

And what I'm noticing is that those are just thoughts and beliefs.

I know you know this,

Hang with me here.

But those thoughts and beliefs that are constantly taking up space,

Taking up rent for free in my mind are powerful.

And if I don't pause to test them out and to listen and to observe them,

Then I will go on believing them.

And I might still take action.

And I want to share something as well about this taking action in a moment.

I want to talk about the overdoing and the overachieving,

Which for me has led into at times workaholism.

I want to talk about that.

But first,

I just want to say if you've struggled with those voices that are telling you,

I don't have enough of this yet,

Or I don't have,

I'm not there yet,

Or who am I to do that,

Or I don't have the right background,

Or I didn't go to school for that,

Or I don't have the certification in that.

Let me just say to you that if your heart is telling you to go out on a limb,

And for me it was to start a business,

To write a book,

To start a side hustle in decluttering or in bringing your artwork to life or whatever it might be or to sing more,

Please choose this year to listen to your heart,

To your inner wisdom.

Please,

Please choose to listen.

I'm telling you,

I've done life and tracked it when I don't listen and when I do.

And that is exactly what I'm looking at and talking about today is getting an alignment,

Hearing that inner wisdom,

And then what do you do when you hear the voice that says,

Eh,

You're not ready,

You're not connected as well connected as you should be.

Well,

You haven't done that before.

You don't have enough money to pay for all of those services,

Whatever it might be,

Because I can guarantee you the moment you start focusing and shifting that flashlight on your heart and her or his or its desires,

Your ego,

Which I've heard called edging God out,

Whatever you want to call it,

That part of you that wants to keep you safe and protect you,

Like bless her,

Bless him,

But that is not the essence of you.

That is a voice.

And that's what I've been noticing a lot.

So even doing this episode,

I was really like,

I don't know.

I just feel like there are other people that have better stories to tell.

And there are some amazing guests.

I have so many amazing guests lined up.

I must tell you this year is going to be very powerful.

I have guests lined up until June,

Like incredible guests that I'm so excited to share with you.

And it's important for me to say,

You know what?

I have something important to share as well,

Because as I do that,

Hopefully that reminds you and inspires you to do the same.

So one of the ways that has helped me to really look at this little,

This voice,

This ego part of me,

The part of me that's scared and that's doubtful,

That what's helped me to look at that part and not run and abuse food,

Although that has happened sometimes,

Or to do other things to not have to deal with the emotion and the moment is to really be more,

To get still,

To breathe,

To be in the discomfort.

And I will tell you as somebody who avoided emotions,

Especially uncomfortable ones,

This has been like one of the biggest learnings for me.

So love to hear if you are similar to me,

What I can tell you is that it is possible.

It is possible to change this cycle.

I can't tell you you're going to not have that fear and doubt voice.

What I can tell you is it gets lower and it gets less.

And what happens is,

Is we start to build that trust in ourselves,

In the intelligence,

The wisdom of your inner being,

Of your heart,

The more that you're going to be able to trust yourself.

And so for me,

One of the practices that I do is I put my hand on my heart.

I just acknowledge myself that I'm feeling overwhelmed or doubtful or fearful or uncertain.

And I just,

First of all,

Give love to that part of me.

So it's a basic like hand to heart and,

Julie,

I hear you,

I'm with you,

I'm not going anywhere.

And I just honor it.

It's not always comfortable.

Sometimes I cry or hit a pillow or phone a friend or journal or whatever it might be.

I've done a lot of baths,

But really to allow yourself to be with that feeling so you're not pushing it away.

And then I look at,

You know,

What's true in my heart.

What's true for me?

What do I know to be true?

What do I know to be coming from a place of love?

Because what we know,

And I was just listening to,

I love the book Conversations with God by Neil Donald Walsh.

I recommend all of them.

And I was reminded in there,

They talk about in his conversation where he takes dictation from God over a year and a half.

I'm reminded that our thoughts are either coming from,

They're sponsored at the root in love or fear.

That's it.

It's really simple,

My friends.

It's really simple.

It's love or fear.

So when I start getting that doubt,

And this is what happened right before I pressed record,

I was like,

Oh no,

I just interviewed a wonderful expert in luminary.

You'll get to meet him in March.

And I'll keep the suspense of who it is,

But incredible interview.

And I thought,

Oh,

I should do my now.

I'm in the mode,

You know,

I'm here,

Got the mic,

Got the big headphones.

And I heard,

What are you going to say?

Like,

What do you even have to say?

And immediately I could see and feel and hear that is not the voice of love.

That is not the voice of truth.

That's the voice of fear.

And the truth is if I'm not for you,

Or this is not the best conversation,

Or you're not getting much from it,

You can always pause or go to the next one,

Right?

Like you don't have to listen and that's okay.

But I do know that there will be people that hopefully do get something.

Hopefully you're one of them where you might have that voice that is telling you that you're not good enough,

That you don't have enough education,

You don't have the degree,

You don't have the body,

The wealth,

The whatever.

And I'm here to tell you that is bullshit.

I'm just going to say it.

That is not true.

Okay.

Now,

If you want to be,

You know,

Practicing medicine,

You do need to become a doctor.

So in some cases,

Yes,

You need the background and the education,

But in many cases,

What your heart is pointing to,

You're ready and equipped right now.

It might mean taking some action steps.

It might mean you need to do some things to make yourself ready to fulfill upon that dream.

I'm not saying that.

However,

When our small scared voice from fear comes in and starts to say all kinds of crazy crap about why you're not equipped or not good enough or not worthy,

I want you to start to notice that and track it or just start getting in the habit of asking yourself,

Is this coming from love or is this from fear?

It's really simple.

If it's not love,

Then it's from fear.

And if it's in fear,

Then you can stop and say,

Okay,

What's going on?

What am I afraid of?

What's happening here?

How can I come from a place of love or from compassion?

So I'm hoping that that's helpful.

That has been totally rocking and changing my world.

It's helped me to do a lot of things that I felt really uncomfortable about.

I do want to talk about the doing.

As I was talking earlier about taking action and about,

I think many of us,

And if you're drawn here,

I'm guessing you're probably in the category of overachiever,

High achiever,

Likes to get things done.

I am ready to start a little club over here for those of us who are recovering overdoers,

Otherwise known as,

For some of us,

And I do count myself as having workaholic tendencies.

Absolutely.

It was actually a couple of days ago,

I was listening to someone talk about workaholism and that she's able to put stuff down and leave and go be with family or do other things.

I'm going to be really honest with you and vulnerable here.

Not that I'm not always,

But I haven't even said this to some of my closest friends.

I just told my husband this,

But when I heard her say that,

I realized,

Oh shit,

I have a very hard time putting work down sometimes at the expense of people who need me,

Like getting dinner ready on time or for my kids or doing something I said I would do with myself.

I struggle with that.

I am so wired to,

I love what I'm doing and I love creating and producing and doing.

For those of you,

If you're like me,

It's very typical in our society.

There's a lot of focus on doing and achieving.

Frankly,

I find as a recovering food addict and just having that in my genes,

Having those tendencies that it can be addictive.

I can get a high from producing and doing.

For me this year,

My focus is going to be on being and that's why I'm wearing this shirt today,

My BT.

It's actually a shirt that I created with my soul sister,

Monique Washington-Jones,

Who is a bad-ass in herself and owns a women's karate studio in Maryland.

We created this.

This is one of the first things I did in my career was to create the BET because I wanted to be reminded daily of being because my tendency is to do and do and do.

What I've noticed has happened when I do that is I stopped being able to hear my higher wisdom,

I start to burn out my adrenals,

Which means feeling brain fog and tired,

And I start to crave sugar,

Start not to feel as well,

And I'm not in the present moment.

That's really what I believe we're all looking for is to feel a connection to our essence,

To ourselves from a mind-body-soul,

Mind-body-spirit approach or essence feeling,

And to feel a connection to the divine,

To our creator.

What I found is that by slowing down,

Which is not easy for those like me,

I'm a fire sign,

I'm a manifesting generator.

For those of you who know anything about human design,

I've got a lot stacked against sitting still.

But no,

I've really learned through having an autoimmune condition,

Through a lot of health issues,

Not now but along the way,

That if I don't slow down,

It really affects everything.

I'm just sharing this in case this might be you or you know someone that tends to get into that rat race with themselves,

With yourself around doing and hyper productivity.

For some,

The flip side is avoidance and procrastination.

You might be on that end of the stick.

Typically,

It shows in two ways.

I tend to be in the other side,

The overdoing,

The at all costs,

Staying up late,

Working 12,

15,

16 hours a day.

I'll say I love the career and business I've created.

It is heart centered.

It is something I'm in love with.

What I'm learning is how to create those limits,

Those boundaries,

And also how to be more.

I do think that is one of the biggest gifts of this past year in 2020 was so much more time for stillness,

For going inward,

For really tuning into what is your heart saying to you,

What is your inner wisdom saying to you,

What really moves you,

How can you feel more connected to who you are,

To your calling.

My wish for you in 2021 is to be okay right now,

To be in the moment,

To be present,

To be in love with the divinity that's you,

To really be with that you're worthy right now.

Right now,

I don't care what your circumstances are.

I mean,

I care,

But I don't care in the sense of it doesn't have a thing to do with your worthiness.

It doesn't have a thing to do with your being an incredible human being and having everything you need within you.

It has nothing to do with being a compassionate,

Empathetic human.

It just doesn't.

I hope for you this year that you can find more peace inside,

That you can tune into that beingness in you and that when those voices come up of the not good enough,

Not worthy enough,

Self-doubt,

Not feeling that you have what you need,

All of that,

That you can pause,

Go to your heart,

Remember that our thoughts are coming from love or from fear,

To nurture that fear,

To be with that feeling,

Not to pass it by,

But to hold it close,

To look at it,

Love it,

And know that you are safe and that you are equipped and that you are like me,

An incredibly powerful,

Magical,

Truly incredible being that has everything that you need and to be able to find stillness so that you can start to build that trust and that inner relationship,

That connection that will guide you for the rest of your life.

So I hope and pray and just wish you a year of being still,

Of being your USU.

And if there's ever any way I can support you,

This is one of my favorite things in the world to do through coaching,
