Welcome to this guided meditation for connecting with and soothing your inner child.
We know that the inner child,
Or at least one of them,
Is present when we find ourselves in big reactions that feel outsized to what's actually happening,
When we can't seem to get over something that we've processed with our rational minds,
When something is bothering us and we can't quite put our finger on why,
Or when we find ourselves in patterns over and over again that we're aware of but we can't seem to change.
It might be good to know that we can have more than one inner child.
We can have many.
Ourselves sometimes get stuck in moments in the past and while we can't change what happened,
We can communicate with that past self and bring them into the present with us,
Our adult selves,
Today.
I'll also mention that sometimes our inner children have a relationship to past trauma in our lives.
Be gentle with yourself in this meditation,
And if anything starts to feel like too much,
Slow down and reconnect to the earth,
The room around you,
Maybe an object you can hold in your hands,
Something that's happening in the present.
But we'll stay as gentle as we can here.
If you haven't already,
Please take a moment to get settled.
Take any position that allows you to breathe easily and focus,
Whether that's sitting,
Lying down,
Or in some other way.
Check in with your breath.
Maybe take a couple of deeper breaths and just notice how that feels right now.
Acknowledge the support beneath your body,
The feeling of your clothes on your skin,
The room around you,
Any objects in it that have meaning for you.
Notice the earth supporting you,
The land that you are on,
And your relationship with that land.
You might also like to take a moment to call on any help or support that feels right for you to help you in this journey.
You could invite the most loving and compassionate part of yourself to join you in this experience.
If it helps,
You could also invite any deities,
Spirit guides,
Angels,
Loved ones,
Ancestors,
Or any other energies that you feel can help you access calm,
Loving compassion for this inner child.
Now take a moment to feel your body.
If your inner child is here,
It's likely that you can feel them somewhere in your physical body.
This could feel like pressure,
Tension,
Anxiety,
Lightness,
Or heaviness.
Just take a moment to feel for that.
If possible,
Put one or both hands on the part of your body where you're noticing this younger self.
Take a few deep breaths into that place and invite your younger self.
Notice them.
How are they feeling?
What are they doing?
How do you feel toward this inner child?
If you feel any dislike,
Judgment,
Fear,
Or disgust,
Ask for help from the compassionate part of you or your other supporting energies to access an attitude of love and non-judgment.
See this child for what they are feeling,
What they are going through.
Acknowledge that they are doing the best they can with whatever is happening for them.
With this attitude of loving compassion,
Approach this child.
Tell them who you are.
Tell them anything else you want to say.
Allow them to respond and listen to what they say.
You may notice an urge to do something,
Like hug them,
Take them with you,
Walk with them,
Play with them,
Remove them from the situation they're in,
Anything like that.
Just go ahead and follow your instincts.
If you're not sure,
You could also ask them what they want,
What this child wants,
What they want,
What this child needs right now.
Bring them to a safe place with you if they're not there already.
Offer them words of love,
Care,
Encouragement,
And whatever else feels right for you.
And make sure you're listening for what they say back.
As things shift,
Especially as you bring this child into a safer place,
I encourage you to ask them again,
What does this child need right now from you?
Knowing that we will close this meditation soon,
Where does this child want to be?
Would they like to stay with you?
Rest,
Go play.
If it feels right to you,
Honor their request.
As we begin to move our attention back to the material world,
We're not leaving them behind.
We're not abandoning them.
They are a part of you.
We honor them for who they are and the gifts they bring.
If you need more time with this child,
Please feel welcome to pause this meditation and take all the time you need to have this conversation.
When you feel ready,
Gently return your attention to your body in the room.
The light behind your eyes,
The objects around you.
Take a few deep breaths and gently move your body to come out of the meditation.
Take your time.
And if you'd like,
You may want to journal a bit about what that experience was like for you,
What you learned today from your inner you.
Thank you for listening and have a wonderful rest of your day.
