This prayer is an opportunity to draw on the grace and strength that we have been given at other times so that we may be sustained at this time. It is based on Ignatius of Loyola's practice of 'repetition' in which we draw fruit from experiences of God. When we do this, we become infused with the graces and insights given to us. This is conversion, incrementally, daily. While this can be used profitably any time, and frequently, I offer this now because it seems important these uncertain times.

Welcome to this time of prayer.

This is a prayer to revisit an experience of God and to bring it alive in the present.

The grace and truth we receive in experiences of God are always available to us.

When we revisit and remember an experience of God,

We experience this grace and truth again.

There may be many times in your life when you have experienced God.

I will be asking you to choose just one.

You can repeat this meditation to revisit other experiences of God.

We all think about and relate to God in unique ways.

If the language I use for God is not yours,

Then please substitute your own words.

I shall lead you into and through this prayer.

You can pause the recording if you would like to linger at any point.

If you find yourself distracted,

This is not a problem.

Please don't criticise yourself for this.

This is what minds do.

Just gently come back to the prayer.

And if you find yourself drawn in a different direction,

Then let go of what I am saying and follow where the Spirit leads you.

Some people find it helpful to have a journal or a pad of paper to hand to jot things down as they go.

Others prefer to make some notes at the end.

It's probably best to be sitting for this prayer,

So find somewhere where you can sit comfortably.

Find a posture in which you can be both alert and relaxed.

Put both feet flat on the ground,

Be comfortable and upright and have your hands loosely in your lap or on your legs.

Take some time to settle.

Feel your connection to the ground through the soles of your feet.

Feel your bottom on the seat,

Your back against the chair.

Relax and let yourself be held by the ground and the chair.

Notice the breath in your nostrils or your mouth.

Notice your chest and belly rising and falling.

Feel your way into your body,

Down from your head,

Deeper than your skin,

Into your centre.

Be in God's presence for a few moments.

And now look back and remember an experience of God in the past.

It could be quite recent or it might be further back,

Perhaps a long time ago.

It might be a special moment that is important to you,

Or it might be a simple everyday experience.

Perhaps you have had a number of experiences of God.

For now I would like you to select just one.

It doesn't matter which.

You can always come back here again and choose a different experience.

Give your attention to this one experience.

Remember it in detail.

When did it happen?

Remember the time.

What else was going on for you?

Remember this experience as if it is happening now.

Where are you?

Indoors or outdoors?

In the town or the country?

In your own home or elsewhere?

Who are you with?

Or are you on your own?

What is happening around you?

What is this experience of God?

What is it like?

How did it make you feel back then?

And as you remember this experience,

How does it affect you now?

What does it feel like in your body?

And where do you feel it?

You might like to place a hand on this place in acknowledgement.

What is God like in this experience?

And what is the gift from this experience?

What did you learn?

What did God show you?

Where in your body is this gift now?

Relish it.

Let it anchor in you.

How can you carry this gift with you wherever you go?

Speak to God about any of this,

Or show God whatever you would like.

Leave a space for God to respond to you.

And respond back to God in whatever way you wish.

I will leave a couple of minutes of silence for you to continue with this meeting with God.

Okay.
