What are habits actually?

Habits are things that we routinely do,

Repeatedly do,

Without thinking about them.

So how we make our coffee,

How we sit in the car and put on the seat belt.

These are things that we automatically do and we don't have to think about it at all.

It's just happening.

When we get up in the morning,

For me right now,

It's our meditation or a workout.

And for the people who need a coffee.

These are things that pop up in our mind,

Naturally,

Automatically.

But what if what we understand as habits or routines are not only the things that we do,

Like reading a lot,

Going to the gym,

Yoga,

Or whatever your habit is.

What if habits can also be emotional or just based on thought?

So what I think is that habits are everything that we do constantly,

Repeatedly,

And that we do not think about.

That can also be emotions,

Emotional pathways,

Or thoughts,

Habits of thinking.

An example I want to bring here is my constant drift with my thoughts and emotions to sort of put myself down.

When something is not going right,

I know my normal way is pulling myself,

Closing up,

Pulling myself out of the situation and talking myself down.

Talking or finding things that were not going well and almost going into the moment.

And almost going into this negative spiral of,

Oh,

I don't even need to do anything or start anything because everything is shit anyways.

That's sort of the final conclusion of most of the thoughts.

And I have them regularly.

And it's really interesting that this is constantly happening.

Then that is a habit,

A negative one.

But there's also positive ones that we can have with emotions and thoughts.

So for example,

Some people are just waking up and having a good feeling just because they're alive,

They're waking up.

And this can also be trained the same way specific pattern of thoughts can be trained.

Just by continuously,

Actively,

In the beginning though,

Actively trying to choose different ways of thinking.

So my question to you right now is,

What are constant either emotional habits or thought habits that you either like or dislike?

And how would you like to change them?
