I tried so many times to start this yoga routine for like an hour and I'm not able to do it consistently Every day or at least three four times a week And I'm gonna really annoyed and I'm not knowing I don't know why I cannot build this freaking routine I Really don't understand it That's what I heard a couple of times now in coaching sessions or in workshops and It is real difficult to start something a routine or some habit to start out with let's do it for an hour Let's do it Just I'm motivated.
Let's do it three four times a week.
Let's go But That slips up my mind at least quite often That when you're motivated you just want to go or I always just want to go and and do things and the same way also those clients felt that could not Build up this routine and they were really confused.
There's so many people doing this routine consistently and They pass have the possibility to do so But they do not find the strength or the the persistency to actually continue and That's mind-boggling Which is if you look at from a psychological perspective not really surprising because we naturally try to Not do hard things not change our behavior drastically for not a strong reason reason or not apparent reason and So it really makes total sense that our body wants to save energy and do the same things again Even thinking new thoughts is difficult So that's why our brain even tries to think the same thoughts over and over again We have to about 30,
000 thoughts per day and about 90 or 95 percent of them are Probably the same if not Exactly the same as days or weeks before because we have thought them before That makes it a lot easier for us to think them again The literally synapses are getting connected getting stronger and make it possible for you to think the same thing again So not surprising then that it's not easy to also change your behavior and and work out or do yoga for like an hour or any in you have it that you want to create and One thing that at the end of those sessions most of them took with them took from the session Was that it is possible to start a new habit very freaking small I don't mean like half reducing it by half.
I don't mean like a quarter.
I mean really small I told even a client if she really wants to start this yoga practice The bar needs to be so low that it would be ridiculous Like outrageous if you cannot make it and we made the goal so small that The she can take it off her to-do list when she just rolled out the mat and sat down That's all she needed to do And that seemed so freaking small that it was actually possible for her and even made her excited so like oh I just have to do this in order to actually feel good and and be Create this new habit And that's quite often what we fall into the trap that we fall into we need to create a super big new thing And in fact,
We just need to start very small but very consistent in order to make positive change in our lives And if you want to read more about that the book that helped me a lot with it was atomic habits by James Clear he perfectly describes how we build habits as humans So feel free to check it out
