This track is a guided grounding experience for 5-14 year olds. Supports in calming anxiety, anchoring and learning how to self-soothe. Grounding is the precursor to mindfulness and teaches us how to deliberately connect to our senses, to pay attention to them with a gentle concentration, which can then lead to us learning to do this more naturally. Suitable also for vision impaired children.

Hi,

Here is a really simple way to become grounded.

Grounded means that you feel anchored in where you are.

So it means that you feel safe,

Balanced,

Even confident.

So how we can do that is really easy.

It's by tuning into your senses and really paying attention to them.

Let's do that now.

Wherever you are,

You don't need to be sitting or laying down.

You can do this standing.

Simply pay attention to all that you can see.

What can you see right now?

Are you in a room where there's lots of objects or furniture?

Really have a look.

And if you're vision impaired,

Imagine what you can see with your inner sight.

Can you see light,

Shade,

Darkness?

Really paying attention with your sense of sight to all that you can see.

And wherever you are in a room or outside listening to this,

If it feels safe to do so,

Gently close your eyes and really pay attention now to what you can hear.

And if that means pausing this audio so that you can take earphones out,

You can do that.

Really pay attention with your sense of hearing to all that you're hearing right now.

Sounds far away and sounds closer to you.

What can you taste,

Your sense of taste?

Is there flavours left in your mouth from food you might have just eaten?

Toothpaste,

Mouthwash?

Is there a metallic taste or little or no taste?

Simply notice your sense of taste.

And now with your sense of smell,

Any perfume,

Fragrance,

Aromas that you can smell,

Flowers,

Grass,

Trees,

Scent in the room.

Or perhaps there's little or no scent in the room.

And now lastly to your sense of touch,

You know,

The sensations you feel on your skin.

So that might be really feeling to the ground beneath you,

The floor beneath you.

Feel with your feet what you're feeling.

What can you feel on your skin,

The clothes touching your skin?

The air,

The temperature of the air.

Is there a breeze if you're outside?

Really pay attention to what you can feel.

Really feeling your feet touching the ground,

The floor beneath you.

It's really that simple.

So you can do this at any time you want to feel more grounded and more balanced.

It can work really well when you're feeling anxious feelings,

Upset.

It can work really well to practice it all the time so you remember to do it in those times when you are feeling upset.

It can work well to help you drift off to sleep too.

Good luck.

Enjoy.

Have a great day.

This was great. My 4 year old and I tried this and it was long enough to engage with positively but not too long that it was challenging to get to the end. Thank you!

My 5 year old daughter Eve enjoyed this meditation. She liked that she didn't have to keep her eyes closed the whole time. Her cat Neo kept her company.
