Welcome to WAVE Breathwork.
My name is Spencer Jones,
The Prince of Positivity,
And I am really excited to have you here joining me in this breathwork session.
Now,
WAVE breathing can be tricky,
And some people really struggle with it.
And that's okay.
If you struggle with it,
Don't beat yourself up.
Don't judge yourself.
Think about numerous things you have tried in your life that have taken practice to get the hang of.
And that is okay.
So don't beat yourself up.
Just give it a try and keep coming back to it.
I would suggest adding this breathwork session into your day,
Whether you do it once a day,
Twice a day,
Heck,
Even every other day.
But try this breathwork session because it can do so many great things for you.
I describe breathwork and I have a breathwork 101 session if you want to learn more about the benefits and how-tos to breathing properly.
I'm doing breathwork in a way that's going to maximize its benefit for you.
But this session,
We're just going to focus on WAVE breathing.
So the WAVE breathwork goes something like this.
Imagine your lungs as water balloons.
Now if you've ever filled up a water balloon,
Right,
You fill the balloon full of water,
The water goes to the bottom first,
And it expands that balloon out from the bottom,
And then as the water fills that balloon up,
Then the rest of the balloon expands.
Well,
We want to do the same thing with air inside your lungs.
So I mean,
When you breathe in,
You want to breathe in through your nose,
You want to fill up the bottom part of your lungs first and let that expand.
So you allow your stomach to come out,
Right,
You're just naturally expanding,
You're not forcing anything,
But you allow the lower part of your lungs to expand,
And then fill the rest of your lungs,
Just like that water balloon,
Right,
You fill up the rest of your lungs and allow then your chest to expand.
And then when you exhale,
Exhaling through the nose,
The bottom part of your lungs come in first,
Right,
So your abdomen,
That comes in first,
And then your chest can then expel the air and collapse.
So it looks like a wave,
Right,
Your stomach comes out,
Then your chest,
And then your stomach goes in,
And then your chest goes in,
Creating this wave.
You can even feel free to put your hands on your stomach and chest if you like to feel that expanse and collapse.
So let's jump in and try wave breathing.
So find a comfortable position for you,
Whatever that is,
You be seated,
Standing,
Laying down,
It's all good.
I would suggest being seated or laying down as opposed to standing,
But whatever works for you,
Just be smart,
Be careful.
All right,
So we're going to breathe in through our nose,
Exhale all the air you have,
Breathe in through your nose,
Filling up the bottom part of your lungs,
Let your stomach expand,
And then letting that air stack on itself and filling up your chest.
Hold your breath for a touch at the top,
Then exhale,
A nice,
Gentle,
Calm exhale,
Allowing your stomach to come in and then the air to leave your chest and collapsing that gently.
Now it doesn't need to be a big collapse,
Just a little one.
Now breathe in,
And then out.
Remember to inhale and exhale through your nose as best as you can.
Inhale again,
Allow your stomach to fill with air and then your chest,
Opening that heart center and then exhaling through your nose,
Allowing that air to leave the lower part of your lungs,
And then your chest.
Continue to wave,
Breathe as best as you can and just listen.
As you breathe like this,
As you breathe low and deep into your lungs,
It does a couple beautiful things for you.
One is it cycles the air out.
Many times we have this dead or stale air in the bottom of our lungs that can hold bacteria and diseases and all that.
By doing this deeper breath work like this,
It allows you to cycle out that air,
To get rid of that dead air,
Which is amazing because that can help keep you healthier.
Plus,
It's allowing fresh oxygen to go down deep into your lungs and allow that oxygen to be absorbed into your bloodstream,
Giving you more energy,
More life.
Continue to breathe in through your nose and out through your nose,
Creating that wave breath with your lungs,
Allowing that stomach to expand first and then the chest,
And then the stomach goes in and then the chest goes in.
Continue to breathe like this for one more nice deep breath.
You are strong.
You are amazing.
You are enough just the way you are.
Never doubt that.
Then whenever you finish with that wave breath,
Continue or start to just breathe through your nose,
Continue breathing through your nose,
But it could be more relaxed breath.
Wave breathing is such a beautiful way to bring your mind's focus to your breath because it takes concentration to do it.
You start to feel amazing benefits from it.
You are using more of your lung capacity.
You absorb more oxygen,
Which helps heal your body,
Gives your body more energy,
And you just feel freaking awesome.
However,
If you struggled with it and you don't feel awesome,
That's okay.
Don't beat yourself up.
As I mentioned at the beginning,
It can be tricky to get the hang of,
But you got this.
Just keep practicing.
Even if you try two,
Three breaths,
Try that once a day or a couple times throughout the day,
You will get the hang of it.
And come back to this session anytime.
It is here for you on Insight Timer.
Check it out.
