This meditation based in the tradition of Vedanta, gently escorts you from the rhythm of your own breath into a realm of profound tranquility. Through contemplation, you will traverse the ephemeral nature of sounds, unveiling the eternal presence of silence. As you delve deeper, you will witness the vastness of space, unbound by dimension, while forms retain their finite nature. Lastly, you will contemplate the ephemeral nature of thoughts, realizing that consciousness, akin to silence and space, transcends the constraints of time. With each passing moment, you will immerse yourself in profound peace, absolute stillness, and a rejuvenating state of rest.

Welcome to Big Sky Upasana.

Please be as comfortable as possible.

Closing the eyes,

Just feel the breath through the nostril.

You don't have to do a thing.

Breath just comes and goes like the tides of the ocean.

Effortlessly,

Breath comes and goes while we have to wait for the breath to come and go.

We don't have to wait to be conscious.

To be conscious is effortless.

To be present here and now.

You don't have to do a thing.

Just feel your body resting on the earth.

Earth supporting the body effortlessly.

The whole creation universally is going on without effort.

There's no conflict anywhere.

Now just moving your awareness to the nostrils.

Feel the coolness in the nostrils as you breathe in and out.

Heart beating effortlessly.

Now just move your awareness to the back of your throat.

Feel the coolness now in the back of your throat.

Now just move your awareness to the lungs and feel the breath in the lungs.

Feel the coolness now in the lungs.

Now just moving back to the nostrils.

Feeling the breath in the nostrils again.

Feel the coolness is now back in the nostrils.

Let go the need to do anything.

Let go the need to undo anything.

And let go the need to let go.

And just feel your effortless presence here and now.

Please listen to the sounds around you.

Any sound will do.

Notice how before the sound arrives silence is already there.

While the sound appears silence doesn't disappear.

It continues with or without the sound.

Silence accommodates all sound.

You have to wait for the sound to appear and disappear.

But you don't have to wait for silence.

Already there beneath the sound is nothing but silence.

How many sounds have come and gone in the silence?

How old is silence?

When did silence first appear?

Where does silence end?

Having no beginning,

No end.

Ageless,

Timeless,

Silence,

Ancient.

Same silence now is the same silence that's ever been.

Changeless in amongst all the change.

In the same way space accommodating all form,

Facilitating,

Giving dimension to all forms.

Space remains the same regardless of any form or the size of the form.

Space never changes.

How many forms have been and gone in the formless space?

Dimensionless yet space gives dimension to everything appearing in it.

Where does space begin?

When did space begin?

Beginningless,

Timeless,

Ageless.

There is no beginning or end to space.

In the same way consciousness in which all thoughts appear,

Disappear.

No matter how many thoughts have come and gone in consciousness like space,

Consciousness remains unaffected by anything happening in it.

You have to wait for a form to appear or disappear.

You have to wait for a thought to come in consciousness.

But you don't have to wait for consciousness already present,

Already conscious with or without the thoughts.

To be conscious is effortless.

Try to be unconscious.

You cannot nor do you have to do anything to be conscious.

Already effortless,

That presence in which everything is present is yourself.

Changeless in all the changes,

Be the changeless which you already are effortlessly.

Yet we take it for granted.

Like silence,

Consciousness gets taken for granted.

Subtler than all the sounds appearing in silence is the silence.

Subtler than the silence is the one listening,

The enjoyer,

The perceiver of silence,

Yourself.

Subtler than all the forms appearing in space is the space.

Subtler than the space is the one seeing,

Enjoying the space,

Yourself.

Subtler than the subtlest is the perceiver.

There is nothing subtler,

Changeless,

Ever-present,

Unchallengeable,

Unchangeable.

Be the changeless that you already are effortlessly and enjoy all the changes.

Coming back to the breath,

Just feel the breath moving in the nostrils again.

Feel its coolness,

Feel the body resting on the earth.

Earth hasn't gone anywhere,

But we take the earth for granted.

Consciousness too,

Easier than the easiest,

Closer than the closest,

Be that ever still,

Calm and serene.

O Shanti,

Shanti,

There is nothing but peace,

Nothing but peace,

Nothing but peace.
