Relax and Be Positive
Relax and be Positive highlights the importance of attaining a relaxed disposition and a calm and receptive mind so as to transform the tendancy to be negative into a confident, creative positive way of living. There is a guided relaxation, pointers to help develop that positive attitude and suggestions of how and what to use as an affirmation. I suggest that you revisit this practice regularly to train the mind and support you on this exciting transformational journey.

Hello and welcome,
I'm Joanne from Peaceful Living and this session is titled Relax and Be Positive.
I'm suggesting for this session that you make yourself comfortable in a sitting position.
I suggest that you be seated so as to stay awake throughout.
However,
Experiment yourself to see what position is best for you to tune into the content of this practice.
You may prefer to lie down.
By relaxing and remaining aware,
Prepare your mind to be receptive and open to several pointers I'm going to give you,
Pointers that can help develop a positive attitude and to maintain an outlook on life that will serve you when you may otherwise be distracted by negativity and drawn into that very place that you do not want to be.
Practising relaxation is a key component to developing positivity.
If you practice it regularly,
As I suggest,
It prevents emotional challenges from escalating and causing disturbances.
It also allows the brain and the nervous system to take time out from the enormous overload that we put on ourselves these days.
It helps to accept things that we cannot change and to be resilient,
To bend with the storm and afterwards to be as upright as before.
A tense body functions inefficiently.
An intense and restless mind will also function inefficiently.
So let's get started.
Firstly with the relaxation practice.
Preparing the body and the mind to be open and receptive.
Now checking once again your posture.
Your back is upright,
Head square to the shoulders,
Chest open and the feet on the floor.
Sense your spine is elongated and your head and neck floating on a beautifully oriented spine up and down.
Your hands can be softly placed in the lap.
Now feeling and allowing a wave of relaxation to gently enter your body.
You know where you're going with this and you let go of resistance.
And now let your eyes lightly close.
Use a moment here to just feel the presence of that ease in your body and your eyes lightly closed.
Be aware that you are voluntarily allowing yourself this time to nourish yourself physically and mentally and that you are beginning a process of cultivating an environment,
An environment mentally and physically that is going to take you more and more toward a relaxed and positive way of living.
Now give in to the support that you've provided for your body.
Allow your shoulders to drop once again and likewise allow your lower jaw to drop.
Feel your teeth parted a little and your tongue softly spreading in your mouth.
These are areas that are often holding tension.
Often quite unconsciously we can hold tension in parts of the body.
Now feel your eyebrows softly spreading creating openness at the eyebrow centre.
Releasing any tendency to frown.
And so your facial expression is soft and relaxed.
Now be aware of your breathing.
One way to assist your breathing to settle is to inhale counting four and exhale counting six.
This breathing rhythm helps to stimulate the vagus nerve.
The fight or flight response which is the sympathetic nervous system in the body is turned off and the parasympathetic nervous system via the vagus nerve pathways is turned on and thus induces the relaxation response.
Which is where you want to be now.
So just try that breath rhythm.
Inhaling silently counting four.
Exhaling silently counting six.
Take your time don't rush.
Please don't struggle with that breath rhythm if it doesn't come easily.
Just breathe calmly trying to lengthen ever so slightly each exhalation.
If you practice this a little bit every day it will become easy.
Remember never force a breathing practice of any description.
So just quietly now experiencing that breath rhythm inhaling four exhaling six.
So just continue that for a few moments.
Now keep the rhythm but let go of the counting.
Easy breathing.
Allow your whole back to relax.
Again feel awareness of your spine and notice that all rigidity is beginning to dissolve.
Breathe there for a moment.
Breathe into your spine into your whole back.
Are there any tight spots?
Just go there and relax with the breath.
Now allow your throat to relax and soften.
Feel that your throat is open.
Once again drop your shoulders.
Now your arms your hands and fingers relax.
Feel there's an ease streaming through your arms into your hands and fingers.
Be aware of your lungs your heart your whole chest.
Breathe there for a moment feeling in touch with a quiet heart.
It's very important to allow your heart to be relaxed.
Breathe into the quiet heart.
So now allow your abdominal muscles to relax.
The soft rhythm of your breathing helps to let go of tightness and tension in this area.
Your muscles sink into the body.
Your legs now relax.
Both legs relax together.
Feel the feeling of letting go.
There may be a heaviness in your legs.
Just feel that deepening and relaxing letting go.
Both legs relax resting.
And let that feeling of ease stream through your legs into your feet and toes.
Legs feet and toes relax.
And so now your whole body can feel relaxed.
Your whole body is relaxed.
Whole body.
Allow it to be.
Now be relaxed.
Check that you are aware of the feeling of relaxation and lightness in your body.
But you are awake.
Be peaceful.
Be positive.
Now it's widely recognised that a positive attitude is important.
When our words are positive,
Our actions and perceptions are positive,
There are many benefits to ourselves and to others.
When we meet someone who is genuinely positive,
Their energy is engaging and inspiring.
When we're in a positive atmosphere,
We tend to give our best and more as we are less inhibited.
When we are in a positive state of mind,
Our body feels relaxed and free.
We are able to feel an abundance of energy.
So it's easy to slip into a negative frame of mind.
We all do that from time to time.
I know sometimes it just feels easier to be negative than to make the effort to change that mood.
In the process of transforming ourselves from old negative and destructive ways of living,
We can easily deny or shut out what are very relevant emotions and feelings.
Just know that you can work with these feelings rather than against them.
You want to be able to move forward with greater clarity and understanding of yourself.
Now positive thinking is certainly not denial.
Being positive is being in touch with your feelings to assess,
To experience,
To make the choices that serve you best,
To express or whatever is appropriate and most creative in the moment.
Being positive is not being fixed in what's positive or what's negative,
But rather being alive to the possibilities in everything that comes your way.
Now it takes time and we all stumble with this.
You may even feel like giving in to those negative thoughts at times.
Know that positive thinking is listening,
Listening to ourselves and knowing that we can move forward.
We will attract what we need and even the biggest impediments have the potential of melting away.
As I said earlier,
It is a key component to developing a positive attitude and a positive and happier way of living.
A tense body is caught up in itself and a tense mind is too busy and restless to experience the space for positivity.
I'd like to read some inspiring words I came across many years ago about aliveness.
I've kept them always as a reminder to keep that presence of aliveness and positivity always there in my consciousness.
As you listen,
Begin to breathe a little deeper and allow the energy of aliveness and positivity to awaken within your body.
Now the key word here is allow.
Our bodies are finely tuned instruments which are designed to function perfectly as the energy of the universe flows freely through them.
When we allow this to happen,
We experience the feeling of aliveness.
Anything that impedes the free flow of energy through us reduces our feeling of aliveness.
We experience aliveness when we feel inspired.
Aliveness occurs when we peel off uncertainty and all the other illusions and get in touch with our essence,
Our perfection.
That is the part of us that wants to fly,
To soar,
To express our uniqueness in ways that enable us to feel the true joy and beauty of our real selves.
We are capable of being inspired all of the time.
Believe it is possible and then put energy into it by thinking about it often.
Remember perfection already exists.
Our role is to recognise it and place ourselves in alignment with it,
Letting go of all beliefs that are in opposition to it.
We can always look for,
Notice and acknowledge our own and everyone else's magnificence.
It is always there.
You can live your life any way you choose.
Choose inspiration.
Choose aliveness.
So finally,
Now I would encourage you to use an affirmation in this process of transformation.
Affirmations are a very powerful tool to help accomplish your heart's desire.
You can turn that last line of this piece into a wonderful affirmation.
You could say it like this,
I live my life the way I choose.
I choose inspiration.
I choose aliveness.
I live my life the way I choose.
I choose inspiration.
I choose aliveness.
Say this affirmation with heartfelt meaning and determination and it will flourish in the bed of your subconscious mind.
Say it,
Say it out loud,
Say it softly,
Say it quietly.
Write it hundreds of times and the most important part is to live it.
So I wish you all the very best on this exciting journey towards living a positive life.
Thank you and blessings.
