Hello and welcome to Joanna Furtado therapy,
Finding deeper breath.
In today's practice,
I will be inviting you to connect to the very important practice,
The simple yet profound connection to our breath.
As we both eliminate and renew with our inhale and our exhalation,
The breath alone has the power to regulate our nervous system,
To bring us back into equilibrium,
And to connect us with what lays beneath the surface,
What we are holding underneath.
As we begin today,
Find yourself a comfortable place and a comfortable position where you can begin to connect with the stillness of the here and now.
Let's start by taking a slow deep breath,
In through the nose and out through the mouth.
We will begin by focusing on the exhalation as a way to remove any excess tension or stress from our bodies,
Our minds,
Our spirits.
Can we breathe the inhale into those places of tension?
And when can we allow the exhale to invite a releasing of that,
A letting go?
For myself,
I notice my shoulders are up very high.
And as I breathe in,
I let the exhale invite surrender into a relaxed position.
The inhalation comes like a wave that sweeps over any stress,
Any tension.
And the exhale is a wave that invites it to simply release,
Let go.
As I do this,
I may begin to notice that underneath the rushing and the tension,
There are other feelings or parts that may be hidden under there that are coming forward.
If you notice this,
Simply take a hand to that space.
Perhaps it's a feeling in your heart,
Or your belly,
Or your head.
Can you take a hand to simply support that part?
And just letting it be here,
Letting it be known,
And letting it be with you.
As we connect to a deeper,
Fuller breath,
We may notice that there are parts we're not breathing into.
Perhaps you can take your hands to your lower belly and see if you can invite the inhalation to extend all the way down to fill your hands.
And then surrender to that glorious exhalation.
As we begin to breathe a fuller breath,
A deeper breath,
As we breathe into all the corners and crevices of our being,
All of the trillions of cells that make up our existence.
Letting that breath be full,
Letting that breath be deep,
Letting your mind rest on the wave of the breath itself.
As we now focus our attention towards the inside of our being,
As we now focus our attention towards the inhale as a place to invite new energy.
As we inhale through the nose,
See if you can intend for loving,
Supportive,
Nourishing energy to come inward.
And as you exhale,
Let that energy land in your heart,
Your belly,
And every cell of your body,
Mind,
And spirit.
Inhaling anything you need to bring in right now.
What do you need to hear or connect with?
You may bring that inward now.
Being an active participant in what energy you would like to have live in your body.
Just letting yourself ride the wave of breathing a deeper breath.
As we let go of both as we let go of both the eliminating exhale and the intentional inhale,
We surrender to both equally and just allow space for this very simple yet powerful practice.
Letting the breath and body do what it naturally needs to do.
Trusting in our bodies that as we slow down and offer a nourishing breath,
Our bodies can do what they need to do to heal us and to support us and renew our energy.
Thank you for spending time on this subtle yet profound art of breathing deeply.
