Inspired by my friend with aphantasia, this non-visualization meditation will guide you to use your hands and awareness to feel the areas of your body where the seven chakras are located. If this practice resonates with you, please check out my guided meditation, 'Touch Your Heart Energy.' The chakra system originates from ancient India. In Sanskrit, 'cakra' (pronounced 'cha-kraa) means 'wheel/circle' and it refers to the energy centers along the body's astral spine. Various chakra systems are found in Hinduism and Buddhism. This meditation relates to the 7 chakra system.

Welcome,

My name is Jung Jin Moon.

I'll be guiding you to tune into your body to feel the areas where the chakras are located without using any visualization.

Sit upright in a comfortable position with a straight spine.

Adjust your body so that your weight is evenly distributed on each sit bone.

Feel your spine elongate from the tailbone to the base of the head and let your chin tuck in just a little bit to elongate the back of the neck.

Release the tension in your scalp and feel the top of your head soften.

Relax your forehead,

Your eyes,

And all the tiny muscles around your eyes.

Relax your cheeks and your jaw.

Feel your lips touch and soften the mouth.

Relax the tongue and feel it rest inside your mouth.

Rest your hands on your thighs with the palms facing upwards and place your awareness inside your palms.

Feel the air around your palms.

Notice the gentle pulsing in your palms.

Now move your awareness into your thumbs,

The second fingers,

The third fingers,

The fourth fingers,

And the fifth fingers.

Now feel the entire hand.

Move your awareness into your two sit bones and feel the weight of your body pressing your sit bones into the surface beneath you.

Now see if you can feel the space in between the sit bones.

You may feel the muscles here contract on the exhale and relax on the inhale.

This is where the root chakra is located.

This chakra is the energy center for our sense of groundedness,

Stability,

And safety.

Either keeping your awareness on your sit bones or the space in between,

Stay here and feel the energy at the base of your torso for the next few moments.

Now place one or both of your hands just below the navel.

Feel the warmth of your hands move into the lower abdomen.

The sacral chakra is located under your hands and it's the energy center for our sexuality and creativity.

Now rest your hands back on your thighs and focus on the movement of the lower abdomen with each breath.

On the inhale,

Feel this area gently expand like a balloon and on the exhale feel the skin move inwards towards the spine.

Place your awareness inside your lower abdomen and stay here for the next few moments.

Now place one or both of your hands in between the ribcage on your upper stomach.

The space under your hands is where your solar plexus is located.

This chakra is the energy center for our sense of self,

Identity,

And purpose.

Resting your hands back on your thighs,

Start to feel the movement of your rib cage with each breath.

On the inhale,

Feel the rib cage expand outwards at the front,

Sides,

And back.

On the exhale,

Feel the space in the rib cage grow smaller.

Stay here and feel the effortless ebb and flow of your rib cage.

Place your hands at the center of your chest and feel your heart pulsating under your hands.

This is where the heart chakra is located and it's the energy center for love,

Compassion,

And forgiveness for others and yourself.

Rest your hands back on your thighs and see if you can place your awareness inside your chest.

Tune into your heartbeat.

If this sensation is too subtle,

You can feel the pulsating in your hands or choose to put your hands over your heart again.

Stay here for the next few moments and feel your heart.

Now move your awareness into the base of your throat,

Which is in line with your shoulders.

This is where the throat chakra is located and this is the energy center for communication and expression.

On your next in-breath,

Feel the air enter your nostrils and travel down into the base of your throat.

On the out-breath,

Feel the warm air travel up your throat and out the nostrils.

When you inhale,

Notice the subtle expansion at the base of your throat.

Keep your awareness here for the next few moments.

Now move your awareness to the middle of your forehead.

Use your finger to lightly tap this area a few times.

This will begin to awaken your third eye chakra,

The energy center for awareness and intuition.

You can continue tapping here or sit still and feel into the middle of your forehead.

You may start to feel heat,

Tingles,

Or a pulse.

These sensations are normal,

So just observe them for the next few moments.

The crown chakra is the only one of the seven chakras that's not located inside the body.

It hovers just above the crown of the head.

Using your finger,

Lightly tap the top of your head.

You can continue tapping or sit still and feel into this area.

You may begin to feel a pulse or a tingling sensation.

The crown chakra is our connection to spirituality,

The divine,

And higher consciousness.

Stay here and feel this energy center at the top of your head.

Now rest your hands on your thighs and feel your whole body at once.

Allow your awareness to fill the entire body and feel the energy that connects every part of you from head to toe.

Begin to wiggle the toes and the fingers.

Slowly blink your eyes to gradually open them.

Thank you for joining me.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! As someone who struggles with visualization, this meditation was absolutely perfect! Wish there were a ton more geared for those with aphantasia.

As a fellow teacher and someone with aphantasia I love seeing a meditation for aphantasia folks! So many students struggle with visualization even if they are not completely aphantasic so having the option to keep a tactile anchor is wonderful for many types of people. Another way I love to teach meditation for complete aphantasia (meaning of any sense not just visual) I speak about having a knowing of something as that’s how I experience a lot of the world. For example I know what a pencil or white light looks like even without my ability to mentally recreate it in some form. Thank you for sharing this unique meditation!

I liked the feeling approach to the Chakras. More intuitive to me than visualization.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have total aphantasia and I’ve learned to "visualize" in my own way, but this meditation has added a whole other level to my understanding.

Thank you! I’ve only recently learned about aphantasia, even though I’ve been making meditations for “non-visualisers” for a while now! This was an excellent meditation, the first time I’ve not been totally bored during a chakra meditation!

That was wonderful! I try to avoid meditations that require me to visualise or imagine things, I find it so hard that it takes away from the meditation, this was so much easier, thank you🙏

This was amazing! Thank you for a meditation experience that I could actually do. I always thought that because I couldn’t visualize the chakras I wasn’t “enlightened” enough. This was so helpful. Namaste 🙏🏼

Awesome that you did a meditation with no visualization, I can only visualize very brief and unclear images. Untill recently I assumed everyone was the same. I enjoyed the meditation a lot, thank you.

Excellent! I really liked doing a chakra meditation without the visualization. I liked feeling into the areas and the awareness of each area. Bookmarked. Thanks!
