This Hawaiian forgiveness practice is all about accepting responsibility for wrongs that are done.

Not just wrongs by us or to us,

But accepting responsibility for what is going on in our world and offering to reconcile with those wrongs on a universal scale.

No matter what it is that has happened,

We are deeply interconnected beings and all part of healing this world.

This acceptance and repentance starts with opening our hearts to feelings of discomfort and pain we feel when we see the pain of others and feel sorry for their pain with compassion.

This may be pain we personally experience or witnessed in others.

A time spoken in anger,

An illness,

An injury,

War and brutality around the world.

And so,

In the first step,

We say from our full heart,

I'm sorry.

As we have accepted the responsibility and remorse,

We simply ask the person wronged,

Ourself,

Our God,

The universe,

To please forgive me.

It doesn't matter who or what we are asking for forgiveness.

It could be our body for caring for us,

Who or whatever it is that offers us this forgiveness.

We accept our forgiveness with a heartfelt thank you.

And finally,

We offer love.

Love for this amazing world,

For forgiveness,

For life,

For everything.

I love you.

With this practice,

We can offer compassion and care to those who need it,

To ourselves for wrongs done long ago and still held as dark secrets in our hearts,

For others who wronged us or others who caused pain,

Even if they don't realize it.

We can heal our fractured world through repeating this beautiful prayer as a mantra,

Repeated over and over to soak it into the depths of our being,

Connected with all other beings as well.

Let's begin with a few breaths to get grounded and centered.

Breathing in and breathing out with a long,

Slow exhale,

Allowing the body to calm,

To get centered and grounded.

Being here in this space and bringing to mind one event for which you feel the need for forgiveness for yourself or others.

Knowing that we do this practice for all connected beings,

But it's okay to start with yourself or with a loved one.

And simply repeating the phrases over and over.

I'm sorry.

Please forgive me.

Thank you.
