The autumn euqinox is one of eight sabbats celebrated by witches throughout the year. Learn about the energy of the season and receive some journaling questions to reflect upon for the season.

Welcome to this cozy chat on the autumn equinox.
My name is Jenny Siebel.
I am the host of Our Coven and the author of Spirit Crystals,
Discover Your Crystal Guide for Healing and Empowerment.
So if you've been following this series,
I have just been doing little chats about each one of the equinoxes,
Solstices,
And cross quarter days on the witch's wheel of the year.
And we are in the energy or entering the energy of the autumn equinox.
And just in case you're listening to this after the equinox,
You can celebrate and work with the energy of the autumn equinox anytime between now and Samhain.
And so don't panic,
Don't think you have to get it all in there,
Right?
You don't,
It's you have time.
So let's talk a little bit about autumn or fall,
Right?
We obviously if you live where you're seeing the trees change color and the leaves fall off,
You can see that there is definitely an energy of letting go.
And so I think the best theme or the biggest theme for autumn equinox is letting go.
And I think another theme is gratitude.
So for letting go,
What that makes me think of is kind of casting aside old beliefs,
Old stories,
Habits,
Especially daily habits that are just not serving you.
So if you reflect back to the spring,
And maybe you planted some seeds,
You had some ideas,
You had some goals,
Maybe you did a vision board,
You might have even done that at New Year's,
At New Year's time.
So going back to January or to the spring,
Whenever you really felt like the new energy coming in,
I'd like you to first think about what is no longer serving you.
Because you know,
A lot of times,
We start the year with one goal in mind or an intention.
And then we grow,
We change,
We shift,
We evolve,
And we're like,
That doesn't really line up anymore.
So that's the first thing to investigate on this theme of letting go.
What of your own goals,
Manifestations,
Dreams,
Desires,
Just are no longer aligned with who you are.
And it's not like you have to,
This is not a time to get down about anything you didn't,
Like a goal you didn't meet or a manifestation that didn't happen.
It's more of a time to investigate.
So we're investigating,
We're getting curious about,
You know,
What did manifest and what didn't.
And if it didn't,
Why?
Is something not aligned?
Is something you actually really don't want anymore?
And if it is something you want,
Then you can start to,
You know,
Put that aside,
You can think about,
Okay,
That is something I want.
But right now is a time to focus on kind of clearing energy,
Cleansing,
Letting go,
Facing shadows,
Right?
A lot of shadows come up in this,
We're entering the darker time,
Right?
We are going to start seeing it getting darker sooner,
All the way until the winter solstice,
Right?
This is the darker part of the year we're entering.
It's dark,
It's quiet,
It's restful,
It's nourishing.
So we're starting to enter that energy.
And so it's not a time to really,
I would say,
Push yourself.
It's a time more to start to ease up.
So for me,
If I had a manifestation or goal that didn't happen this year,
I would get clear as to why,
Like,
I would really be honest with myself.
And then okay,
Is this something I still want?
Okay.
And what are some things that maybe are standing in the way of that?
What are some things I need to change or overcome or let go of?
And that's kind of the energy we're talking about.
I have some questions for you on letting go.
So these could be journal questions,
They could just be questions you ponder,
They could be questions you use tarot cards for.
What behaviors are no longer serving your highest good?
And you know,
We just have to get real on this,
Right?
So what are some things that are no longer serving our highest good?
The autumn equinox always brings in Libra season,
And Libra is all about balance,
Right?
So what are behaviors are no longer serving?
What habits have you grown tired of seeing yourself do?
And that's a tough one,
Right?
It could be like something really simple,
Like,
I just haven't been washing my face before bed.
Like,
I'm sick of that habit.
Let's break it.
Where in your life do you need boundaries?
And with whom?
What inner child is needed?
Healing is needed at this time.
So there might be inner child stuff coming up.
And this might not apply,
All of these may not apply to you.
So definitely take what does.
What ego stories keep coming up for you?
Examples.
I am unlovable.
You know,
What is your mind telling you,
Right?
What are the thoughts,
The negative thoughts or feelings or ideas about yourself that are on loop?
Let's investigate those at this time.
When you can't sleep,
What thoughts are repeating in your mind?
Who in your life needs your forgiveness?
What do you need to forgive of yourself for?
What causes you the most shame or guilt?
And what is blocking you from joy?
So these are all heavy questions,
Right?
It's heavy hitting time.
We're entering,
Like I said,
The darker time,
The darker half of the year,
Which is when we get real,
We reflect,
We investigate,
We work with our shadows.
And what does that mean to work with your shadow?
Your shadow is just going to pop up,
Right?
It's going to pop up in these questions,
Like in the negative thought loops,
It's going to pop up in the habits that you're like,
Why am I still doing this?
That's where the shadow pops up.
And it's our job on a healing journey,
Right?
To be like,
Why?
Why is this popping up?
And to investigate.
So really Autumn Equinox is about investigation,
Getting curious and letting go of things that you can.
So one of the things I think is really fun and easy to do is to find some fallen leaves at some point in the fall and write on them things,
Habits,
Ideas that you want to let go of.
And then you can either crumple them and scatter them in your way,
You know,
Blow them into the wind,
Or you can burn them safely.
Very easy ritual.
So some ideas for the autumn is definitely looking at your autumn harvest,
Going to if you can,
Like a local farmer's market or something,
And getting some pumpkins or gourds or pretty corn and putting them on your altar,
Really like reminding yourself of the abundance you do have,
Right?
And yes,
You can eat the food you put on your altar.
You just put it there first and you can eat it later.
You can collect fallen acorns and dried leaves and dried flowers,
Right?
We don't have to spend money on our altars or our decorations.
Crystals I like to work with at this time,
One I really like to work with a lot,
But it's a nice one for all this investigating and being curious is rose quartz.
Because rose quartz is very softening,
It's very loving,
It's very much about self-love.
And it helps when we investigate and ask these harder questions for us not to be harsh with ourselves.
And then of course,
You can start to bring in the Halloween decorations,
Right?
The skeletons and all those fun things.
Like to me,
It's never too early,
But we are getting to the part of the year where we're kind of looking at more of the death of things,
Right?
So if we're looking at the first,
Like the spring through the summer,
It's about new life and life.
And then we enter fall,
We start to look at the dying and the death aspects.
So this is celebrating ancestors.
This is letting things go.
This is seeing endings and being okay with endings,
Right?
This is a really good time to reflect to if you don't currently journal to start journaling.
It'll really help to get you through the darker parts of the year because you'll be more in touch with how you're feeling and how you're doing.
So really this is autumn equinox because it's an equinox is also about balancing and rebalancing as is Libra season.
So what we're doing is we're investigating things that are kind of clogging up our ability to be balanced,
Right?
And we're trying to let them go like old leaves or dead leaves on a tree.
That's really a good visual,
Right?
If you are the tree and there are leaves that are turning,
You know,
What are,
What are you letting go of?
And how does that help you get rebalanced?
And what does it mean to be in balance,
Right?
It's a daily thing.
It's sometimes an hourly thing,
Like to really find our balance.
And often it's about getting curious about how we're feeling and truly investigating our thoughts,
Our feelings,
Our ideas,
Our emotions through things like journaling,
Through card pulling,
Through sitting and chatting with a friend over coffee,
Right?
We process,
We need time to process our thoughts,
Feelings,
And emotions.
When we're so busy and especially like summer gets very busy for a lot of people,
We don't have that time.
So fall and winter invite us to slow down,
To let go of the busyness and to really investigate how we're feeling.
So I wish you a happy autumn equinox.
