Welcome to this affirmation meditation.

It is inspired by a quote from the book The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.

When referring to the first agreement,

Speak impeccably,

Don Miguel Ruiz writes,

The word is a force.

It is the power you have to express and communicate,

To think and thereby to create the events in your life.

The human mind is like a fertile ground where seeds are continually being planted.

The seeds are opinions,

Ideas and concepts.

Being impeccable with your word is the correct use of your energy.

It means to use your energy in the direction of truth and love for yourself.

Whenever we hear an opinion and believe it,

We make an agreement and it becomes part of our belief system.

Considering this quote and thinking of our attention as love,

Meditation helps to train our attention.

In that way we can focus it where and when we want.

Make a gentle effort today while you meditate to send yourself loving attention,

Being impeccable with your words.

Remember that it's okay if your mind wanders,

When it does gently bring your attention back to the breath,

The sensations and being accepting and patient with yourself.

Come into a comfortable position,

Close your eyes and take five slow deep breaths.

Breathing in through your nose,

Inhaling slowly and deeply and exhaling slowly and fully.

Noticing the sensation,

Your body expanding with the breath and softening on the exhale.

After your fifth breath,

Allow your breathing to return to its natural rhythm and pace.

Don't try to control it,

Let it be as it is.

Feel your body relax and settle into this space.

Observe where you are,

What's your emotional landscape today.

Staying positive doesn't mean you have to be happy all the time,

It means that even on hard days you know that there are better ones ahead.

Place one hand on your heart and one hand on your stomach.

Tune into your natural breath and the sensation of your breathing.

With your body relaxed,

Plant a seed of love for yourself.

Think back to the excerpt from the Four Agreements and plant a kind seed belief for yourself.

What do you need to hear today?

It's easy to be kind to ourselves when we're strong and feeling well.

It's harder if we're struggling a bit.

Maybe I am grateful for my body every day.

I've had struggles in the past and I know those hard days will pass.

I support myself with love and compassion.

I am grateful for each new day and the growth it brings.

You can keep your hands in this position or let them settle to your side.

As we scan our bodies today and you bring your attention to each area,

Feel the sensation of the breath and then send a thought of gratitude for what it brings into your life.

Begin with your awareness in your feet and legs,

Feeling the weight of your body,

And your awareness to your back,

All along your back,

Starting at your lower back through your waist and your upper back.

Noticing the breath,

Sending a thought of gratitude,

Bringing your awareness to your stomach,

Feeling the expansion,

The softening,

And a thought of gratitude.

Your chest,

The expansion,

The softening,

The thought of gratitude.

Your arms and hands,

Your throat and shoulders,

All along your face,

Including your mouth,

Your jaw,

Cheekbones,

Nose,

Eyes,

The whole of you,

All of your systems working together.

In the days ahead,

Try not to judge yourself if a challenging thought comes up or a seed that you don't find valuable to plant.

Be patient and try to reframe it in a loving and patient way.

Before you open your eyes,

Take a moment to think of the energy and belief you want to send yourself.

How can you speak impeccably to yourself,

Being aware of the seeds you are planting?

Consider writing it down and putting your affirmation in a visible spot.

Maybe I am grateful for my body every day,

Or I've had struggles in the past and I know those hard days will pass,

Or I support myself with love and compassion,

Or I am grateful for each new day and the growth it brings,

Or perhaps one of your own.

Speak impeccably and kindly to yourself.

Plant those seeds of love.

Thank you.
