Hello and welcome to this meditation for releasing expectations.
Oftentimes we have very specific expectations of the way that we believe people should act or react,
The way that we should act or react,
What will happen in the world,
How and when we'll achieve our goals.
But all of this can get in our way.
Ironically,
It is by letting go that we allow ourselves to receive.
There is a Zen proverb that says,
Let go or be dragged.
So that's what we'll focus on today.
We'll focus on letting go.
Letting go of expectations that hold us back.
So go ahead and find your meditative position.
You can sit or lie down,
Close your eyes,
Take a nice deep breath in,
Nice and full to the belly and slowly exhale.
Breathe in a few more times like that,
Nice and deep and slow and focusing on the exhale being just as complete.
Imagine that the breath is allowing you to reset your energy and begin to assign this idea of letting go in all the most positive ways to the exhale.
You can begin with any tension in the body.
Still breathing deep into the belly and on every exhale,
Just seeing if you can let go just a little bit of that tension.
Anything that you're holding in the body.
Anything that you are feeling pressure around or that you're carrying.
As you inhale,
Just imagine a nice clarifying breath moving through the body and as you exhale,
Just let yourself let go.
Now notice if there's a particular area of your life where you feel disappointed by the way things have worked out.
Now ask yourself what expectations you had,
What you think should have happened.
And as you breathe in,
Again,
With that clarifying breath,
Just allow yourself the opportunity to let go.
Let go of the disappointment by understanding that that disappointment was attached to expectation.
Just let go and come back to the moment here and now.
Now ask yourself what you're attached to right now.
What career goal or personal goal,
Relationship goal?
What experience or interaction do you hold a lot of expectation around?
Where is your attachment?
Breathing in and out,
Just noticing.
And slowly allowing those attachments to begin to dissolve and drift away with the exhale into the vastness around you.
And with each exhale,
Just feel yourself become a little bit lighter,
A little bit freer.
Allow yourself to feel more in the flow.
Remembering that you do not need to control everything.
Remembering that the flow of life can be beautiful when we release expectation.
Remembering the peace that is possible for you in any moment.
Even when things feel unfair,
Unjust,
You have the ability to find an inner strength and an inner peace that runs so deep.
And it runs so deep because it connects you to the larger story of life.
So with each breath,
Bring your awareness back to this moment because in this moment,
You are part of that rhythm,
That flow,
That larger story.
And with each inhale,
You feel more peace,
More quiet strength.
And with each exhale,
You can let go of anything you cannot control.
Rest in this space for a few more breaths,
Feeling the beauty of the present moment,
Allowing the body to feel lighter and lighter,
Yet still beautifully grounded.
Unwind and let go.
You are free.
You are enough.
You are beautiful right here and right now.
You are free.
You are enough.
You are beautiful right here and right now.
Allow a gentle smile to cross your face as you gently wiggle your fingers and toes.
And when you feel ready,
You can even blink your eyes open,
Feeling the sense of flow in your body,
Feeling the release and trusting that as you move forward in your day or evening,
You are part of a perfect unfolding of events.
And if you just pay attention to what's here right now,
You always have the strength and peace to move with the current of life.
And I hope you feel a little lighter,
A little more flow,
And a little bit more joy.
Thank you for practicing with me.
I wish you all good things.
