Namaste and welcome to day 2 of the level 2 course on Shiva Kundalini Sadhana.

Yesterday you learnt about meditation and Samadhi,

Then you also learnt how to draw your senses inwards.

Today you are going to learn more about Nadi's and activation of Sushumna Nadi.

In a human body there are 72000 Nadi's which are subtle channels that conduct intelligent life force or energy.

24 out of these are considered especially significant.

Out of the 24 Nadi's 12 Nadi's are below the navel and 12 Nadi's are above the navel.

10 Nadi's out of these 24 are very important and they are called Hasta Jiva,

Ghandari,

Bhusha,

Yashaswini,

Alam Bhusha,

Kuhu,

Shankini,

Ida,

Pingala and Sushumna.

The Nadi in left eye is called Ghandari,

The Nadi in right eye is called Hasta Jiva,

The Nadi in the right ear is Pusha,

The Nadi in our left ear is Yashaswini,

The Nadi in our mouth is Alam Bhusha,

The Nadi in the reproductive path is Kuhu and the Nadi at the anal area is called Shankini.

Apart from these 7 Nadi's we have Ida,

Pingala and Sushumna which are of prime importance.

The Sushumna overall is of utmost importance.

This Sushumna Nadi again has 3 Upanadi's called Vajrani,

Chitrani and Brahmanadi.

In level 2 you will learn how to enter the Brahma Upanadi which is the innermost channel inside the Sushumna Nadi.

When we want to travel from one city to another distant city we need a vehicle.

Kundalini energy is like a vehicle moving from Mooladhara or root chakra to Sahasrara or crown chakra through a highway called Sushumna.

There are also other channels apart from the Sushumna and these also conduct life force.

Usually the life force or Prana flows predominantly through the Ida and Pingala.

Ideally the Kundalini should travel only through Sushumna Nadi.

In between these two cities,

Mooladhara and Sahasrara we have some intermediate cities which we call Chakras.

The Kundalini energy rests at these Chakras.

Take your thumb and close your right nostril and breathe in and out through your left nostril.

Now observe if the air is flowing in and out easily or if you are forcing the breath in and out.

Now release the thumb from the right nostril and close your left nostril with your right finger and observe the breath from the right nostril.

If the breath is felt primarily from the left nostril then we say Ida Nadi is active.

If the breath is felt primarily from the right nostril we say the Pingala Nadi is active.

If the breath flows freely and equally from both the nostrils then we say Sushumna Nadi is active.

In such a state we can say that the Prana is flowing primarily through the Sushumna.

You can test this practically by placing your right hand near the upper lip under the nostrils and breathe out from your abdomen to the centre of the palm.

If the breath is dominant in your left nostril then we say Ida Nadi is active.

If the breath is dominant in the right nostril then we say Pingala is active.

If the breath is freely flowing equally from both the nostrils then we say Sushumna Nadi is active.

We will now start the initiation of Sushumna Nadi activation.

Do not try to do this while you are driving or operating machinery.

This practice has to be done in comfortably seated position on the ground or in the chair.

Be seated in a comfortable state.

Keep your spine,

Neck and head erect.

Now place your palms on your legs gently with your palms facing upward.

Keep Chin Mudra by touching your thumb with your index finger gently on both the hands.

Keep your eyes closed and focused on the space between your eyebrows and chant the Sivoham Mantra.

I will now initiate the process of activating your Sushumna Nadi.

Until and unless I say you to open your eyes,

Don't open your eyes and simply chant the Sivoham Mantra.

Now slowly rub your palms for 5 seconds till you feel the warmth in your palms and now place the palms on your eyes.

Be there for 10 seconds and then slowly open your eyes by looking into your open palms.

Now you can rub your face,

Head and body with your palms.

You can check which Nadi is active by placing your right hand near the upper lip and forcefully breathing out from your abdomen to the center of your palm.

If the breath is dominant in your left nostril then we say Idha Nadi is active and if the breath is dominant in your right nostril then we say Pingala is active.

If the breath is freely flowing equally from both the nostrils then we say Sushumna Nadi is active.

For some people they might feel that they are breathing through both nostrils but are not equal.

Also for some people it might take some time to get the Sushumna activated.

I would like to advise you to check the Nadi's every 2 or 3 hours and see yourself in which Nadi you are and also check your Nadi when you are having trouble with your emotions and also when you are in a happy mood.

Today you learnt about Nadi's and have gone through Sushumna Nadi activation.

On day 3 we will learn more about Nadi's and Karma.

I hope you learnt something new today.

Thank you for joining me in this session today and I look forward to seeing you on day 3.
