Rushing for results?

Do you feel like you are running a race without a finishing line in sight?

I wouldn't be surprised if you are or if you do feel that way because the messages continue to fly at us from across the grand boulevard of the internet.

Get up early,

Take massive action,

Crash it,

Crash it and crash it again.

For some of us this does not feel very nurturing to our soul even though we can and often do get up early.

We can see something through to completion.

I'm not so sure about the call to crash it though.

Truth is,

What we really should be rushing for is not results because we don't control results,

We can't really control them.

We feel we do but it's an illusion.

We don't control outcomes,

We don't have that power and we often think that we do and we act like we do.

Does it sound a bit weird when I say we don't control outcomes?

It does isn't it?

But it's because of that illusion,

That thinking that we do.

That's why we get so caught up in doing without any sort of investigation or scrutiny about what are we doing,

Why are we doing it and where's the doing coming from.

What we do have power over is what we take action on or rather where we put our attention.

Because we're used to certain things happening when we do certain activities we think that we'll always get the same outcome or response or answer and maybe we will sometimes or maybe we'll get something similar.

But it's also possible that we get something completely different.

Can you think of a time that that's happened to you?

Maybe you thought,

But this is what I do and this is all I get.

Maybe you send out letters or invites to a party and it's like everyone responds and it's like this time it's like pulling teeth,

No one's responding.

You're having to kind of follow up and follow up and follow up all the time what's going on.

That's just a silly example but I'm sure that you can think of your own where what seemed to be straightforward is not quite the same.

Anyway,

Our business is not really about,

It's not to be about rushing for results.

Our business is to place our wholehearted attention on the process and that's the truth of it.

We are rushing for results that we can't control and outcomes that we really don't have power over and we just kind of ignore what we're doing in the process.

But it's the process that's where the power is.

Repeat after me,

The power is in the process.

So when we put our wholehearted attention on the process this provides assurance that we will receive our right outcome.

Because if we don't receive one thing we'll receive something else and then we have the confidence that we can make a decision about what we are getting because we know we're 100% we've been 100% in the process.

Because we don't,

We realize that we haven't got what we wanted not because we didn't immerse ourselves in the process and therefore because we know that we can just reflect a bit.

Is there something else that we need to be doing?

Is there something I'm missing?

Or maybe I just carry on,

I just trust that I actually I'm going to get,

I'm going to have the opportunity to have something else,

Maybe something even better.

There's deep fulfillment in immersing ourselves in the creative process and results are just one of a number of beneficial side bonuses there is a connection between intention and immersion and right outcomes.

When we immerse ourselves in the process we can have confidence that we will magnetize our good to us because we are acting intentionally and with integrity and I have to say that it goes without saying that when we when we set our intentions we need to set them on a foundation of what we know to be good morals.

It's not about just going and getting whatever you want,

That's just not what it's about at all.

And you can do that and go for whatever you want and ride roughshod over everybody else and have no regard to moral boundaries but ultimately that will not bring you the true fulfillment you're looking for,

It won't.

Even if it's temporary you might get a buzz but in the long term that's not a path that I would recommend anyone goes down but of course it's your decision.

So what we should be doing or what we should be rushing to do is to feel in the moment and certainly on reflection because feeling keeps us moving in the direction of travel meaning we will be better able to recognize right ideas right people and opportunities when we don't feel like we're resisting our life because when we don't feel then we are resisting life with a capital L and resisting our own individual life and that causes us to start spinning the heaps on spinfuls of confusion because we don't know then what to do and we don't know how to get our results.

So as you can see we do want to have attention on something but it's the process not the results.

So am I saying not to be aware of what results are happening or be checking in?

Not at all but if you're if you're focused on the process and immersed in the process it's going to feel really good because you get a boost in self-esteem when you do something that you've committed to doing that is these are all parts of the pieces that then pull together or magnetize your good which is the result that you're looking for which may be the result that you are envisioning it may be something better and infinitely more suitable for you and there's a humility when we set our intentions in acknowledging that we only see in part so I hope you can see how it's all connected when it comes to external results it's best to loosen your grip and when it comes to feeling it's best to go deeper and deeper and deeper again.

Journey well.
