Lean in.
So what am I referring to?
You've probably heard of the phrase comfort zone.
I think whether you are an online person or an offline person you would have come across that phrase.
It's used a lot in personal development,
It's used a lot in training,
It's used a lot in marketing.
So how many notes,
Essays and articles have you read that scream at you to get out of your comfort zone?
Your results lie outside of your comfort zone or your comfort zone will keep you small exclamation mark,
Exclamation mark.
Now if you love that message that's fine but if you are ready to skip merrily down a whole different path,
A more nourishing one and dare I say an effective one,
Not least because depletion does not come as part of the package,
Then this audio is for you.
And by the way I love this path too so you'll be in good company.
Now sometimes when you contemplate a new activity,
Maybe something you haven't tried before or something you're coming back to after a while,
You might feel a little uncomfortable or self-conscious like I did when I was invited to attend a tango salon,
Which is like a tango social dance.
I used to dance tango or I learned to dance tango years ago up to a pretty good intermediate level,
Not yet advanced but a good level I could hold my own with any partner and going to the,
I accepted the invitation and I was really looking forward to it.
It's a beautiful dance and so I turned up and suddenly I thought oh my gosh will I remember any of the steps and there's that thing about not wanting to look stupid in front of everybody and I just I just thought okay because either I could just sit and not dance because that was an option but I knew that I wanted to do it and didn't matter how silly I looked or if I made any mistakes I was with a partner who was very present to me and very just really usefully encouraged me and just helped me to navigate my steps and when you learn something you as you will know like swimming,
Cycling,
It goes into your cells.
So I had cellular memory and as I was doing some little flourishes and things were coming back it wasn't a complete disaster by any stretch of imagination and I did really well.
I had a couple of missteps which is to be expected after a few years.
I had a lovely time and actually I thought to myself this year I want to get back into tango so I'll probably take a few more lessons.
There you go.
So anyway it's nothing wrong with feeling a little bit uncomfortable or self-conscious.
Simply notice where the feeling is coming from.
Don't try and do anything just notice where the feeling is coming from and you'll notice that you naturally relax and probably take a deep breath.
Just keep noticing.
It might take a while if you're really kind of you know worked up and that is where you're back in your comfort zone and I would say you definitely want to be there.
It's a great space to be and you know what it feels great simply noticing where your feeling is coming from.
It feels great.
This is also known as putting attention on your state of being.
So nothing external in your life needs to change to have this joyful experience of noticing where your feeling is coming from.
It sounds counterintuitive that you might be feeling uncomfortable and you look to where the feeling is coming from and it feels great but you can test it out in your own experience.
And one way I would describe joy because joy is a state of being.
It's not actually a feeling.
It's not psychological emotion.
It's a spiritual feeling.
It's a state of being so you can access it anytime.
Psychological emotions are triggered by memories and our circumstances but joy,
The joyful state of being can be accessed just by looking,
Just by turning your attention inwards.
And I would describe joy,
It just came to me as I was about to record this audio,
As a continuous sense of imminent good.
Isn't that great?
That's how it seems to me.
Does it seem like that to you?
It's just that's why joy is so amazing.
Nothing needs to change.
It's just but you just know everything's,
It just feels like good is just running towards you.
Can you relate?
Anyway so just know your thoughts,
Feelings and sensations are not your comfort zone which is what people tend to be framed with.
Get out of your comfort zone.
Those are not your comfort zone.
They're just your thoughts,
Feelings and sensations.
Your comfort zone is when you're fully in your body.
You're noticing where your feelings are coming from and it feels great and that is available to you in any moment.
Now this understanding has helped me.
I want to encourage you and to put it into a sort of practical context.
When you just get in your body and not in your head,
You can just move.
Being in your comfort zone,
Noticing where your feeling is coming from will always reveal your natural strengths over time.
As you can see,
Leaning into your comfort zone for answers that if you were to try and look for using your intellect might take you a very long time to find.
Leaning into your comfort zone is also a game changer for your creative outputs and just the ability to be able to do your work,
Do your craft or whatever it is that you're doing from a place of ease and joy and you'll probably find the results are so much better than you even imagined.
I hope you enjoy this talk.
Journey well.
