How is it that we can take such good care of others and yet find it so difficult to nurture our own hearts? Often, our needs get buried underneath responsibilities, fears, and who we think we "should" be. This five-minute meditation is for those of us who would benefit from an efficient way to check in with the self, attune to one’s needs, and calm the nervous system. In just five minutes, we can understand ourselves better and move through the day with more meaning, clarity, and intention.

Wherever you are,

Close your eyes.

Take a seat somewhere or if you can,

Lie down.

Or perhaps just lean against the wall and take a quiet moment for yourself.

Put your hand on your heart.

Feel the breath moving through the body.

These gentle waves coursing through you.

Where are you right now?

Where is your mind?

What is it telling you?

Where is it telling you you need to be?

Who is it telling you you need to be?

Where is your heart?

What is it trying to express to you?

What does it need to feel whole right now?

What does it need to feel heard?

What about your body?

How is your body feeling?

Is there any part of your body that's trying to speak to you,

Whether through pain or tension or energy,

Heat,

Cold?

Is there something that your body needs that it wants you to know?

That if we slow down and listen,

It would so clearly communicate to us.

Can we soften just a little bit more in this moment?

Can we listen with a more attuned ear?

We may not have the time to do everything we need to do to heal ourselves in this moment,

But we can slow down enough to turn towards these whispers and decide how we'd like to move forward.

Perhaps there's something small we can do right now to move through the world in a way that's a little bit more nourishing for us.

Maybe a few deep breaths is all we need.

Maybe we need to offer ourselves forgiveness for a mistake or simply look up and experience all the beauty that is around us in this moment.

If there's something deeper pulling at us,

We can put a little bookmark in our heart knowing that when there is time and space,

We will come back and attend to this very important feeling that's calling to us.

For now,

We can rest knowing that we've checked in,

That we've made some space for all that is there to come through and move about our day with a little bit more awareness and tenderness.

Take a big deep breath in together and let it out.

Know that if at any time throughout the day you're feeling disconnected,

Stressed,

You can always come back here,

Spend a little time with the self.

When you're ready,

You can open the eyes and go back to your day.

Thank you for sharing these moments with me.

Just what I needed this morning to put down the stick that I beat myself up with! A great way to start my day—thank you so much!
