As Wayne Dyer once said,
If you change the way you look at things,
The things you look at change.
We often forget this,
Mistaking worried thoughts and beliefs for absolute truth.
And yet,
If we are able to soften,
To relax and to open up to a broader perspective,
We may just find that things aren't what we thought they were,
And that we have more agency over how we think and feel.
So in tonight's meditation,
We will take a meditative journey through a lush tropical jungle,
Freeing ourselves of troubles and worries by rising above them and by gaining a new perspective.
First we will ground and relax the physical body,
So just begin now by ensuring that you are resting comfortably.
Take a moment to wriggle out any tightness or tension as you sink into the surface supporting you.
Closing your eyes if you haven't already done so,
And just take a moment to ground here,
So notice all the parts of your body that are in contact with the surface beneath you,
Seeing if you might melt a little bit deeper into this space.
Witness the gravity holding you here,
Supporting you and grounding you.
And once your mind has had a chance to settle into the body,
Shift your attention now towards your breath,
And notice the way you were nourished as you breathe in,
And the way your body surrenders as you breathe out.
Each breath is a gift,
It's cleansing you and freeing you,
And on your next inhalation,
Guide the breath up to the crown of your head,
Relaxing all the muscles in your forehead as you breathe out.
Feel your eyebrows softening as any physical tension in your head begins to melt away.
Guide now your next inhalation into your jaw,
Unclenching as you breathe out.
You might also feel your tongue falling gently away from the roof of your mouth,
Breathing into your nose,
And your mouth is now relaxed.
Gently away from the roof of your mouth,
Breathing into your throat area next,
And releasing with a sigh through the mouth as you breathe out.
Feeling the neck area softening,
Relaxing.
Guide your breath into your shoulders next,
Releasing the weight of the world as you breathe out,
And then inhale to fill your arms all the way down to your fingertips,
Letting them relax even more completely as you exhale.
Inhale deep into your heart with your next breath,
And allow your chest to soften as you breathe out.
Continuing to guide the breath down your body,
Breathing in to fill your belly next,
If that's comfortable,
And releasing completely as you breathe out.
Your body filling with a deep breath,
And each breath helps you to soften just further and further.
And on your next breath,
Inhale into your hips,
Relaxing as you breathe out.
Inhale into your hips,
Relaxing as you breathe out.
And then finally,
Guide a long,
Full breath all the way down to your legs,
Filling them all the way to your toes,
And letting both legs surrender as you breathe out.
Feel this physical sense of relaxation pervading your entire body,
And notice the impact it is already beginning to have on your mind.
And take just full body breaths now,
Envisioning your breath reaching all the far corners of your body,
And exhaling to release.
Relax deeper and deeper and deeper.
And after your next exhalation,
Continuing now to breathe naturally.
As the body relaxes,
So does your mind,
And yet you might find that from time to time,
A worried or troublesome thought creeps back in.
As we move through this meditation,
Know that it's a natural thing for the mind to wander or to become stuck in habitual modes of thinking.
So if or when this occurs,
Know that each breath,
And each word I speak,
Is an invitation to soften yet again.
And so I invite you now to dive deeper into your mind,
Deep into your imagination.
As you find yourself standing on a damp earth pathway,
In the center of a mystic,
Tropical jungle,
Surrounded by lush,
Dense greenery.
The air is humid and smells of rich,
Fertile soil.
It's warm against your skin.
Sunlight trickles in through the sky-high canopy above,
And down below,
The chocolate-brown earth is strong and steady.
Hundreds of shades of green permeate the space around you.
Brazil nut trees,
Strangler figs,
Cacao plants,
And bamboos are just some of the species that live here.
The green foliage is interspersed with white,
Purple,
Pink,
And tangerine blossoms,
Passion flowers,
And orchids.
Take a moment to fully absorb where you are,
To breathe the air,
To feel it against your skin,
To feel the earth beneath your feet,
And to open your eyes and heart to the beauty of these surroundings.
Your shoulders relax and your belly softens as you begin to breathe a little bit deeper.
You have come here on a journey to rise above your troubles and worries,
And so you begin on the path that weaves through the forest ahead of you.
You trust that there are many gifts here for you,
And so you walk with your heart wide open,
Your head held high.
As you walk,
You might become aware of some of the worries you've been holding,
And yet they feel different here.
You find yourself able to hold anxious thoughts at a slight distance,
Aware of them,
But not weighed down by them.
You don't deny their existence,
But you feel a broader perspective beginning to grow.
Awareness of your worries might come and go,
But you continue on your way with trust and ease.
As you tune in to the beauty of this rainforest,
You realize how nothing really matters but this moment.
And here in this tropical jungle,
There is nothing to fear,
Nothing to trouble you.
Soon,
The jungle path carries you around a small bend before leading you to the edge of a beautiful lagoon.
The canopy is wide open at the top,
With warm golden sunlight streaming through it.
You step towards the water,
First feeling these golden waves,
You step towards the water,
First feeling these golden rays penetrate your skin.
You close your eyes for a brief moment,
Visualizing this golden glow entering into your crown,
Moving down your face,
Through your neck,
And into your shoulders and arms.
And then filling your chest,
Your abdomen,
And your thighs,
Soon reaching all the way down to your toes.
Breathe into this golden light of the sun for just a couple of breaths.
Release a soft sigh on your next exhalation and return your attention to the brilliant lagoon.
The water is tranquil,
Covered in expansive lily pads and giant white water lilies.
The lotus-like flowers are in full bloom,
Bright,
White,
And mesmerizing.
As you stare at the sea of water lilies from the edge of the lagoon,
You feel your heart opening wider.
You're captivated by the beauty of these blossoms,
Which pull you deeper into a sense of trust and faith.
Troubles and worries may still be present,
But they're worth the effort.
Troubles and worries may still be present,
But their weight becomes lighter and lighter.
As you gaze across the water at these beautiful flowers with their unfurling petals,
They bestow upon you a sense of peace,
Renewal,
And promise.
Spend just a few more moments absorbing the beauty of these water lilies.
And when you are ready,
You continue along the footpath.
Soon after the lagoon,
The earth begins to steadily incline.
It is subtle,
But you can tell that you are on the rise.
It is subtle,
But you can tell that you are on the rise.
The path weaves in and out of trees,
Sheltered by the nurturing canopy overhead.
With each step,
You feel a quiet anticipation growing.
Whatever is unfolding,
Your intuition tells you that you're on the right path.
And so,
Higher and higher you climb into the fresh jungle air.
You continue to observe the beauty that is all around you.
You are perceiving things close up,
Noticing all the small details of each plant.
Every shimmering leaf,
Every pretty petal,
And every wandering vine.
Butterflies and hummingbirds dance past you too.
You absorb the striking colors,
Bright blue,
Dazzling turquoise,
And vibrant orange,
Of their bodies.
Eventually,
The slope plateaus and you find that the path you are on is approaching a dead-end.
You can sense that you've reached the top of a peak,
As there is no foliage higher than the trees surrounding you.
What sits at the end of this path,
Captures your attention completely.
Ahead of you,
Just a dozen meters away,
Is a tree.
Ahead of you,
Just a dozen meters away,
Is a two-story bamboo treehouse,
With a traditional thatched roof.
It is circular,
With wide windows and a wraparound porch.
Architecture unlike anything you've ever seen close up.
The jungle treehouse was placed here for you.
And so you make your way towards it with wonder.
You reach a set of stairs that carry you one by one,
Up to the wraparound porch.
As your feet arrive on the final landing,
You rest your palm on the smooth bamboo hand railing,
And step by step,
You begin to make your way around the perimeter.
What you observe next nearly takes your breath away,
But it doesn't,
Because you remember to breathe.
On the far side of the treehouse,
Framed by tall,
Beautiful bamboo,
Is a complete,
Uninterrupted view of the entire jungle.
A bird's eye view.
Your lower jaw falls gently away from the top,
As you are struck with awe.
The view is unlike anything you've seen before.
The lush green canopy extends as far as your eyes will reach.
Hundreds of peaks and valleys are spread out through the land,
As light mist dances its way across the terrain.
The glorious sun,
Which is now half hidden behind a distant mountain peak,
Casts a luminous,
Amber glow upon the earth.
You take a few moments of silence to revel in this view,
To appreciate this sky-high perspective you have here.
You take a few moments of silence to relive this view,
To appreciate this sky-high perspective you have here.
As you stand here at the edge of the treehouse,
Overlooking the remarkable view,
You realize that everything you see,
Everything you think,
And everything you worry about,
Encompasses only a small view of the truth.
It's a narrow window through which you see the world,
And from high up,
You realize that it is possible to zoom out,
To step back,
To consider any challenge you may face through a wider lens.
This realization cultivates a sense of inner freedom,
And now you long to release any final knots of worry or stress.
You know that when you return to your everyday life,
You can take action to mitigate any challenges you face.
But for now,
There's nothing you need to do about anything.
With this deeper sense of trust,
You know that you can surrender any residue of worry.
And so,
As you gaze out across the land,
You feel the tropical mist coming to greet you.
It is here to help carry away any final bits of concern that you were ready to let go of.
Take a long,
Deep breath in of this mist,
Welcoming its nourishment.
And as you exhale,
You let go of any limiting ideas or beliefs that keep you feeling stressed or small.
Inhale the fresh,
Revitalizing mist again.
And exhale what does not serve your inner peace.
Take a few more breaths this way,
Letting go of everything that doesn't serve you.
Continue to breathe naturally now.
Sink into the peace or sense of spaciousness that remains once you've surrendered all worries.
And as you exhale,
You let go of everything that doesn't serve you.
Sink into the peace or sense of spaciousness that remains once you've surrendered all worries.
The peace of the rainforest lives within you.
Whenever you need to,
You can return to this tranquil landscape to feel its energy rise up from inside.
For now,
You look towards the sky one more time.
Gold,
Vast,
Majestic,
And all-knowing.
The sky sees everything,
Loves everything,
And supports everything.
Including you.
Including all that you've been through,
And anything ahead of you.
But for now,
As the sun descends further,
It wishes to quietly support you as you sleep.
And so,
You head indoors,
Mesmerized by this beautiful bamboo treehouse yet again.
You make your way to the bedroom on the main floor,
And then you crawl into the four-poster bed.
From head to toe,
You let your entire body surrender once again.
There's nothing you need to carry with you into sleep.
All visuals slowly dissipate now as you come back to your miraculous,
Breathing body.
And so,
You head back to the bed,
And you let your entire body surrender once again.
And so,
Breath by breath,
You let go into that final surrender,
Allowing the sky and earth to support you.
You are aware of the peace that lives inside of you,
And that wider perspective as the evening carries you slowly,
Gently,
Into a deep and restorative sleep.
Good night,
My friend.
Good night.
