As much as we may love our significant others, sometimes we don't like them very much, and it can be difficult to get on the same page. I deeply believe that love relationship are our greatest teachers. Those closest to us trigger our deepest issues to arise. Many people are tempted to run away when this occurs, but rather than run, judge, blame or disconnect, it can be helpful to be lovingly curious as to what we may need to be learning about ourselves. This daily meditation is intended to help us let go of our unhealthy reactions and understand ourselves and our partners more clearly.

Transcript

Five minute relationship rehab.

Take a moment and imagine your partner as a small child.

How old are they?

What are they wearing?

Where are they?

What are their surroundings?

Now take a moment to acknowledge their feelings.

What are they experiencing within?

If you look deep into their eyes,

What do you see?

Is it comfortable to be them right now?

What do they need?

How can you give it to them?

What would that look like?

What would that feel like?

How can you let them know that you understand?

Picture this child feeling understood.

Experiencing you as being on their team.

Feeling loved,

Getting hugged,

Being kissed.

Knowing and hearing that it's okay.

It's gonna be okay.

It already is okay.

Just breathe into that love that you have for that child.

Let your heart fill up with that love.

As you focus on what it is that you can give rather than what you need to receive.

With every breath fill up with that love.

And whenever you're ready.

Gently wiggle your fingers and your toes and bring your attention back to the room.

Um,

You

The sound playing in the back really relaxed my nervous system. The exercise of perspective really called us in to inner child work . It invited humility and compassion for my partner.

Healing and clarifying. I cried seeing my SO crying in their childhood home for something that I had done. And I know what I need to do. Thank you.

I do not know what to say... I was feeling so hurt today because I focused on what I need rather what I can give to that overwhelmed, lost child, kicking in the arid dry ground at his feet. This was such an eye opener. I am so ashamed by the lack of compassion that I had and my self centredness. I can choose to be the fountain that drench that dry soil, rather than trying to squeeze the last drops from the dehydrated ground to quench my thirst. This was such a deep and awakening experience. I thank you from my heart.

Been married nearly 35 years and although we rarely have big blowouts, we do get on each otherโ€™s nerves at times. Last night was one of those nights. So when I saw this meditation listed today, I thought โ€œwhy not?โ€ The combination of your soft, encouraging voice with the bells and wind chimes really made me feel like I was traveling back in time to see my husband as a child. I have seen pictures of him at the age of 6, but this felt more real. Such tenderness emerged. I will remember this. Thank you!

My partner has asked me before to imagine her as a small child, it's helped me calm my words and approach her with caring energy and sweetness. This helped me magnify that, thank you.
