She is a mindfulness teacher, a somatic psychotherapist, and trained under Dr. Eugene Gendlin in the Focusing Felt Sense tradition for over 30 years. Her teachings offer trauma-informed practices for embodied awareness, emotional healing and recovery. She is an Educational Partner with the Polyvagal Institute, where she offers a three-year training program based on her books Treating Trauma and Addiction with the Felt Sense Polyvagal Model and 20 Embodied Practices for Healing Trauma and Addiction: Using the Felt Sense Polyvagal Model (Norton, 2025). She hosts the Embodied Dialogue Podcast, where she speaks with leaders in trauma, addiction, mindfulness and body-based healing practices. She is an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Toronto and a Certifying Coordinator with the International Focusing Institute. Jan is Co-Director of the Borden Street Clinic, where she supervises graduate students. She formed the Felt Sense Polyvagal Model Institute in 2025 and enjoys teaching all over the world.
