Rainy Day Kitten by Linda Hayward Rainy Day Kitten looked out the window.

He saw the rain pattering on the big city sidewalks and splattering on the big city windows.

Snap went the snap on his yellow rain hat.

Oh,

I thought we were staying indoors where it's nice and dry,

But shall we go out for a walk in the rain,

Said Mother Cat.

Yeah,

Go for a walk in the rain,

Answered Rainy Day Kitten.

Well,

Snap,

Snap,

Snap went the snaps on his yellow raincoat.

Swoosh and swoosh on went his two yellow boots.

Rainy Day Kitten put his toy boat in his pocket.

His rain clothes were yellow,

But his toy boat was red.

Outside the raindrops bounced and danced on the sidewalk.

They landed on Rainy Day Kitten's hat and coat and slid right off again.

Rainy Day Kitten liked standing in the rain.

He liked feeling wet on the outside and dry on the inside.

And as he and Mother Cat walked along,

They saw pools and puddles of rain water everywhere.

Rainy Day Kitten dipped the tip of his boot into the first puddle.

Beep,

Beep,

Beep.

He waded right through the middle of the second puddle.

And when he came to the third puddle,

He stomped and stamped and jumped and tramped.

Water splashed in every direction.

At the curb,

The water was flowing fast.

Rainy Day Kitten dropped a leaf into the stream and the leaf twirled and whirled and was whisked away.

When they came to the playground,

The rain stopped.

Everything was wet and shiny in the sunlight.

The grass and the dirt smelled good.

Rainy Day Kitten stepped into the sandbox and the wet sand felt squishy under his yellow boots.

He picked up some pebbles and dropped them in a big still pool of water.

The pebbles sink to the bottom.

Rainy Day Kitten took the little red boat out of his pocket and set it on the water.

It floated and bobbed up and down.

He kicked the water gently with the tip of his boot.

The red boat sailed across the big pond.

When they were home again,

Rainy Day Kitten took off his hat and coat and boots and he pulled the little red boat out of his pocket.

Shall we make some cookies or read a story now,

Asked Mother Cat.

Oh,

Read a story,

Read a story,

Said Rainy Day Kitten,

About a kitten who likes the rain.
