Outsmart Panic Attacks
by Janna Cantu
During a panic-attack ( sensations of overwhelm, a pressure to "fix", and racing negative thoughts ) there is nothing wrong with doing nothing , deliberately. A friend with ADHD, who happens to be a fellow therapist, uses this statement on herself at first sign of racing thoughts during decision making. What a comfort: we don't have to decide RIGHT NOW. Trauma brain may not get your vibe, at first. But this shift into neutral ( metacognition) provides space to weigh options before barrelling ahead. Try it out! Note: This track is intentionally brief. As you practice, build your ability to endure "nothing" and drop me a comment should you want a longer recording of "nothing".
