This practice is a practice of bringing attention through meditation of the cycle of our breath,
Which matches the cycle of our life.
So seated once again,
Supporting yourself upright,
Lungs have space,
Heart has space,
Mind can rest,
Brain can rest,
So balancing that little jalindara tip of the tongue to the roof of the mouth and close the eyes here.
The eyes close,
Letting the jaw relax and rest.
And rest.
Almost like an expanded accordion,
The ribs lengthen,
The spine lengthens.
And then exhale,
Empty the breath out completely through the nose.
And before the breath comes in,
That empty space,
Then feeling that initial moment around the nostrils to feel that first spark of breath.
The sensation of air rolling in.
Is it cool?
Is it warm?
What is it meeting around the nasal passages?
You stuffed up?
Are you open?
Just observing,
Not judging.
It should be this way or that way,
Just feeling.
Sensation of breath again and again on that inhale,
Washing in.
From the base of the nostrils,
Let it move up the attention in the center of the nostrils.
What does it encounter?
The space gets a little bit smaller.
Is the air jagged?
Is it smooth?
Is it smooth?
Each inhale,
But full attention.
Then again,
Attention moves up to even the smaller space,
High up in the nasal passages.
Right at that moment before it goes in and descends.
That full moment,
The breath washing in.
Keep full focus,
High up in the nasal passages,
Each inhale.
Letting the mind rest on that inhale again,
That spark over and over into the body.
The spark that animates all the possibilities,
Joy,
Drama,
Hope,
Sorrow.
Pull the attention down as a breath rides into the lungs.
First the top lobe of the lung,
Then midlobe,
Then all the way into the base,
The lungs open out laterally into the back.
Expanding,
Expanding to that fullest point.
So each inhale,
Feeling that fullness,
Lingering if you can in that fullness.
This is the Guru Vishnu,
The sustenance,
The sustainer.
That initial spark where the breath comes in is the Guru Brahma.
Keep the attention now on the Vishnu and the Vishnu.
Keep the attention now on the Vishnu and the sense of being whole,
Full.
What is it like to be filled with the breath?
A moment where you don't need anything else.
The body is nourished.
The body is nourished.
Now we bring attention to that moment when we're full.
Everything is full.
We're at that fullest point of the inhale.
And that natural moment where the breath begins to empty.
From the base lobe of the lung up through midlobe,
Up through the top,
The breath begins to press out.
Up through the nasal passages,
Down,
Out into the world.
And now we give attention to that emptying again and again.
Each cycle.
The inhale,
The fullness take care of themselves.
And from that fullness we begin to empty.
Guru Devo Maheshwara.
That Shiva,
That emptying,
The letting go.
A moment that's done,
A breath that's done.
Honoring that full cycle.
The power of emptying,
The power of slowing,
Stilling.
Tapping into a different space.
Not so much the need of having to project,
Push out,
But to sit empty,
Still.
Without,
But to sit empty,
Still.
And then the full cycle,
That spark,
The inhale,
The fullness to the emptying.
Attention on all of them.
Guru Brahma,
As the breath comes in.
Guru Vishnu,
As it expands.
Guru Devo Maheshwara,
As it empties.
Guru Brahma,
As it comes in.
Guru Vishnu,
As it fills up.
Guru Devo Maheshwara.
You can hit pause and stay in this pranayama.
Keep going,
Hands to prayer at the heart.
And we come through the full mantra.
Guru Brahma,
Guru Vishnu.
