Hi everyone,
It's Jane in the Zen House.
I want to introduce you to the mudra called prana.
Prana means life.
Mudras are those beautiful hand gestures and symbols that we use in meditation and yoga to enhance and deepen the experience.
In prana mudra,
We're placing the tips of the thumb,
Ring,
And little finger together,
And keeping the other fingers,
The index and middle finger,
Lengthened and relaxed.
So forming your prana mudra,
And then resting your hands on your inner knees or the top of your thighs,
Sitting in meditation.
Let your eyes close.
And now coming into the breath and the awareness of breath.
Breathing in peace,
Breathing out calm.
The prana mudra will increase our vitality and help us to relax from fatigue and anxiety.
It's also known to improve our vision.
On the mental,
Emotional level,
It increases our staying power and assertiveness,
Self-confidence.
It gives us the courage to start something new and the strength to see things through.
So this is a really fun one.
You can use it especially if you're starting new practices or endeavors.
And it has the effect of causing both the right and left brain hemispheres to function equally,
Become equally active,
And mutually complement each other,
Which is very important when we look at holistic health,
The whole being as healthy.
When we're feeling anxious and nervous,
It's a sign of weakness in the body or too much distraction and too little inner stability.
The prana mudra,
Combined with a conscious,
Slow,
And gentle way of breathing,
Has the effect of being stabilizing and calming or like a secure anchor.
Imagine yourself as a tree.
Create a mental image of a tree right in front of you.
While inhaling,
See how the energy flows into the roots and how the roots become thicker and longer.
And while exhaling,
Let the strength flow into the trunk.
From there,
It travels into the crown,
Far beyond the tree into the sky and towards the sun.
And the larger the root stock becomes,
The greater the size of the crown.
As the same also applies to us,
To our existence,
How we act,
How we behave,
And what our life contains.
And here's your affirmation for prana mudra.
I have a healthy appetite for the small and large adventures of life.
I digest the challenges with great pleasure and joy.
