Our Turbulent Ocean is a meditative reflection on making pain as sacred and as divine as love. It explores the possibility of opening and surrendering to the pain - to witness it, acknowledge it, hold it and allow it to dissolve with loving-kindness and compassion. This is not a strict meditation practice, but an exploration of heart opening. It is intended to bring warmth, comfort, awareness and solace. Background music by Christopher Lloyd Clarke.

Making pain as divine as love feel so necessary today.

So ripe with opportunity to delve a little deeper,

To examine and hold space for ourselves.

And the chances are if you are here then there is pain which perhaps you want rid of,

Or a restlessness within you,

Or a fearing of an unknown ahead,

Or maybe a desire to stop warring with yourself and to come home.

I wrote this piece having felt all of these things to varying degrees,

And whatever your reason,

I invite you to meet yourself here for the next few minutes as we journey together,

Inward.

I won't deliberately guide you to a particular visualisation,

Except to share my own creative download with you in the hope that it helps you to uncover your own sacred space,

Where you can be in full spectacle of your unencumbered soul.

Because it's all you.

Your birthing.

Your being.

Consider this a guide to self-soothing,

In the ocean inside you,

Is turbulent.

So close your eyes and breathe in from your belly.

Feeling it expand fully.

Perhaps hold it there for a second or two.

Feeling into your fullness.

And then very slowly exhale into calm.

And again breathing in from your belly.

And slowly exhale into calm.

I'll let you do that a few more times as you settle into this download.

And when I stop speaking the background music will slowly fade and you are welcome to stay in your sacred space for as long as you wish,

Or gently rouse when you are ready.

Every tear which drips down your face can be seen as a jewel.

A gemstone carved from your story.

And I invite you to let that story fall away slowly.

And instead hold the vision of that luminescent gemstone in your mind's eye.

As you cradle your bare skin,

Fingers cupped around your ribs,

Close your eyes and smile at your melancholy.

Feel your humanness.

Each cry or whimper or wail is the divine birdsong.

The goddess melody which beckons forth your aching heart.

And what better way to listen than to turn inward.

Allow your heart to open,

To be in its splendour.

Ripples of feather-like waves and frothy gems of ocean wrapping gently for your attention.

This is where you meet your soul,

On the edge of physical form,

At the cusp of a dark cosmic forest.

It's for you to find your way,

Using your divine knowing.

Sinking into the depth of the material unknowing.

Walk intuitively into the no man's land and meet yourself there.

Free,

Unjudged and uninhibited.

Stroke your tender skin,

Which weathers storms and shields you from the elements.

Keeps you safe,

Dry and warm.

Place your hand on your gentle heart and tell yourself you are a child of godliness.

Loved beyond measure in all your imperfection and despite the trespasses and injustices.

A love you can't see or understand maybe.

But lived in every step you take,

Every heart you touch,

Every smile you give,

Every tear you shed,

Every thought you fear.

Come back,

Back to yourself.

Turn inward and breathe.

Breathe into your being,

Deep,

Slow and full.

Come back to yourself,

For where you are is the very place you need to be.

Allow yourself a rest,

In presence,

In stillness and in the very space of now.

Drop your armour and the lumber on your back that weighs you down.

All is well.

Whether you wipe each jewel which drips down your face or whether you allow a pool of honey to collect at your feet,

There is no doubt that to meet yourself right there gives your pain light,

Uncovers it and allows it to unearth itself.

And from that unearthing you water the seeds unseen so that new buds of wisdom and love can grow from your root.

You can be the wise one who holds yourself in this sacred space,

Waters your garden,

Ploughs your earthy soul and lays it bare,

Pulls out the weeds that hinder you,

So that the sun may warm you and spread your roots wide and shoot your stems high,

With love and experience and joy and sorrow and pain.

When sadness beckons and calls you from the pit of your stomach,

Breathe into it belly full.

Breathe out every last ache.

Blow it away like a child who blows a dandelion.

Tiny slithers of cottony floss floating into thin air,

No longer yours to keep but released into earthly safekeeping.

You have been heard and you have been seen.

All is well.

Every tear which drips down your face can be seen as a jewel,

A gemstone carved from your story.

Let the story fall away slowly and hold the vision of that luminescent gemstone in your mind's eye.

As you cradle your bare skin,

Fingers cupped around your ribs,

Close your eyes and smile at your melancholy.

Feel your humanness.

Each cry or whimper or wail is the divine birdsong,

The goddess melody which beckons forth your aching heart.

And what better way to listen than to turn inward.

Allow your heart to open,

To be in its splendour.

Ripples of feather-like waves and frothy gems of ocean,

Lapping gently for your attention.

This is where you meet your soul,

On the edge of physical form,

At the cusp of a dark cosmic forest.

It's for you to find your way using your divine knowing.

Sinking into the depth of the material unknowing.

Walk intuitively into the no man's land and meet yourself there,

Free,

Unjudged and uninhibited.

And every time the ocean within you is unsettled,

Restless,

Angry and messy,

Come back.

Turn inward,

Breathe into yourself so slowly and deeply.

Sink into the calm silence of the deepest depths of your soul.

And remember that this place is the truth of your being.

Deep,

Silent,

Peaceful,

Rested and unencumbered.

Making pain as divine as love is a practice.

Not a linear one,

But an undulating flowing back over and over again.

A meeting of earthly flesh and boundless consciousness.

A friendship to develop.

A relationship to blossom.

A lifelong partnership to behold and cherish.

An experience to witness,

Now and always.

Sinking into the deep,

Silent,

Peaceful,

Rested and unencumbered.
