Receiving: The Biggest Lesson From Your Business

In episode 13 of the Biz Alchemy podcast, Jacquelyn explores the idea that our business has come into our lives to improve our ability to receive. If we cannot receive, our business cannot survive, let alone thrive. She chats about the ways we learn to receive through our business, and how to harmonise giving and receiving in the heart chakra.

One thing that your business teaches you more than anything else.

And it's not obvious at first,

But when you start to think about it,

You realize that this is one of the main reasons that your business has come into your life.

And that thing is to receive.

Your business has come into your life to help you learn to receive.

I mean,

Think about it.

We have to learn to receive and receive well,

Or else our business won't thrive.

I mean,

It won't survive if we are not in full receiving mode.

It's impossible.

So I was pondering this as I was walking on the beach this morning,

Receiving.

It's been a week of wet season rain,

And I've hardly been to the beach at all all week,

And sunshine today for the first time in a week was,

Oh my gosh.

So as I walked on the beach and swam,

I was so aware of receiving everything that was there,

Receiving the sun on my skin,

Receiving the feeling of the sand and the earth beneath me,

Receiving inspiration for my podcast,

Receiving the way I was held in the water.

I was really tuning in to receiving and openly receiving.

And also the beautiful thing about receiving in that way was that I didn't feel any need to give anything back.

I was able to fully receive without this urge to give something back,

Which is what we have as women.

And it's what we take into our business from our lives.

And I'm going to talk about this a little bit later on,

But let's just pull back now and talk about receiving.

Receiving is a yin energy.

And like so many parts of business,

We operate predominantly from the yang energy.

The giving aspect,

If we want to look at the heart chakra and see giving and receiving as part of the heart chakra,

The giving aspect is the yang aspect of the heart chakra.

The receiving is the yin aspect.

As I said,

Many aspects of business,

We're great at the yang.

We've been programmed in the yang.

We can do the yang barely effortlessly,

Although it does actually take effort,

But we've been trained in that way.

And this is how it is with receiving.

So to bring that harmony into the business,

To bring that harmony into your heart chakra,

It's about bringing balance between this yin and yang aspects of the heart.

So to have business success,

We must learn to receive from,

Well,

Firstly,

Our business,

Because the business is the source of clients' income,

Everything that we are wanting from business,

It's coming through the business.

So this is why my meet your business visualization is important.

Even though it is guiding you to connect with your business and form a relationship with it,

You'll notice when I give the guidance in that visualization,

I suggest that you put your hands palms up in a receiving position,

And then invite your business to place its energy into the palms of your hands.

So this is automatically putting you in a receiving position from your business.

It's helping to cultivate you in a receiving relationship from your business.

So next time you listen to that visualization or do it yourself,

Think about that.

Actually consciously put your hands up and think I am receiving from my business right now,

Because that will help you receive your business's insights,

Your business's guidance,

Your business's support,

Because that is all there energetically.

But if you don't have an awareness around that,

Then you do not put yourself in a position to receive that,

A conscious position to receive that.

So make that a conscious part of your connection with your business,

Consciously receiving from your business in that way.

You'll also receive from clients.

Of course,

That seems to be the obvious one.

From your clients,

You are receiving money,

You're receiving support,

You're receiving their time,

You're receiving their trust,

You're receiving their testimonials,

You're receiving their referrals.

We're receiving a lot from our clients,

But we don't always fully open up to this receiving.

We are so focused on the giving,

On what we're giving them.

Are we giving them enough value for their money?

Are we giving them enough time?

Are we giving them enough support?

So let's just throw in all these extras to make sure.

Yes,

Message me anytime.

Yeah,

Let's just go over half an hour because there's so much more we can do here.

So it's the giving,

Back into the giving,

The giving,

The giving,

But are you receiving?

Are you really allowing yourself to receive what your clients are bringing into your life and into your business?

In business,

You also learn to receive from your colleagues.

It might be acknowledgement,

Recognition,

It might be referrals,

Support,

And maybe this is opening you up in a way that you haven't learned to receive in your life before.

To really receive a colleague's appreciation of you or insight about you and your work,

Recognition of what you share.

This can be a powerful part of the entrepreneur's receiving journey.

Another way that we learn to receive in our business is through our partners,

Through our families,

Because potentially you require support that you didn't require before.

And this can be a really challenging one.

You know,

I'm talking about the fact that our businesses are coming in and part of one of the biggest lessons is to teach you to receive.

So you might find like many things that our business teaches us is that we learn the lessons first within the business and then it's about translating those lessons to outside of the business.

And this is a chance for that translation of receiving is actually to receive from those around us so that we can be more supported in our business.

And this might be something prior to having a business you would not have considered.

And possibly you struggle through your business for a while without even allowing any of that support,

Without allowing yourself to receive from your loved ones.

And something that is a non-negotiable,

I mean,

It's a non-negotiable in life,

But I think it also comes up very strongly when you're in business,

Is receiving from yourself.

You have to receive from yourself,

Receive support from yourself,

Receive your intuitive voice,

Listen to your intuitive voice,

Listen to when your body is saying,

I'm depleted,

Listen to when your gut feeling says,

I really don't want to do this webinar.

Receiving from yourself is such an integral part of the entrepreneurial journey,

But particularly this journey to receive.

So they were just a few ideas to get you thinking about all the different aspects of business where you receive in and maybe have some insights about possibly where you are blocking yourself receiving.

Because the thing is,

We feel,

And really our motivation for going into business is to give.

We are wanting to give our gifts.

We are wanting to share our gifts.

And of course we want to be paid for those gifts.

That's why it's a business.

But in most cases,

Particularly for heart-centered entrepreneurs,

And many of you listening would be coaches or healers or sharing your creative gifts with the world.

So your drive is to share that,

To help others,

To guide others,

To make their lives better in some way.

And that is your motivating factor.

And of course receiving so that you can live your lifestyle,

The life that you want,

Is an important part of that,

But not always what drives us to start.

So yes,

We want to make some money,

But in actual fact,

Very often we need to rewire our energy body to really open up to receiving that money.

And I'm sure that you have done some work on receiving,

Receiving around money.

There are so many options out there to guide us in our money story and releasing that money story and helping us to receive more.

But those stories in our energy body,

They're powerful.

They've been there.

They're not just ours from our life.

You know,

They've been inherited from our ancestors,

From our lineage,

Particularly in relation to our mother's line.

Women were not programmed to receive,

Which is so interesting when you think about it,

Because as I said at the beginning of the podcast,

Receiving is a yin energy.

And yet we as women struggle to be in that yin energy.

In many ways,

Men are actually better at receiving,

At better at being in that yin energy than what women are.

I mean,

It's so bizarre,

Isn't it,

When you think of it that way.

And so,

God bless our business.

This is what it's here to do.

This is one of its biggest lessons for you,

Is to reprogram yourself,

Reprogram your energy body so that those stories of continuous giving and for it to be selfish to receive so that those are switched.

You know,

And almost like switched to the extreme so that you are receiving first to give.

Now that's a whole paradigm shift,

Isn't it?

You're not giving to receive.

You're not giving your services to your clients to receive.

You're receiving to give.

Because when you receive,

That fills your cup.

And when you give from a full cup,

The giving is effortless.

The giving is unconditional.

When you are giving from a half full cup,

From depletion,

The giving is conditional.

Because you yearn for something in return to fill that cup again.

So just ponder that for a moment.

And I'm gonna take that a step further.

Imagine rather than receiving to give,

You are receiving to fill.

Because then,

As I said,

The giving is effortless.

When I look at my clients' hutchakras clairvoyantly and the hutchakras of their business often,

There is a filter on the receiving aspect.

I may have said on a previous podcast about the fact that I tend to see the front of the heart as the giving and the back as the receiving.

It's just the way it shows up for me clairvoyantly.

And so often,

There are two things I see.

One is that there is some sort of filter over the back of the heart.

Now that might present differently as a different image for everyone,

But it is filtering what's coming into the back of the heart what the heart's receiving.

Whereas the front is often so open and wide and there is absolutely no filter.

It's just like gushing out.

So that's one thing that I do notice.

And those filters are simply the stories.

They're the stories and beliefs.

And so the energy coming in is being filtered through these stories and beliefs before the heart can receive the energy.

And the second thing is that very often,

There's only one or two channels coming into the heart chakra.

Now I particularly noticed this with the business's heart chakra.

And so it is as though my client's beliefs are limiting what she can receive to just one thing through one channel and maybe a second through another channel.

And that's it.

And it's very rare for me to look at someone's heart and see all these different channels where they're receiving in all these different ways.

So it's like there is a belief that it's okay to receive in this way,

But not that way.

So let's close that channel down a bit,

Put a filter on there and so on.

Now the thing is the universe does not discern between how it's giving.

And so if you are saying,

Oh,

It's not okay to receive this way,

Let's pick something really simple,

Testimonials.

Oh,

It's not okay for me to receive testimonials.

No,

Don't wanna do that,

Makes me feel uncomfortable.

No,

I'm not going to do that.

I'd rather be giving out,

I'd rather be giving testimonials to everyone else.

And so energetically that's perceived by the universe as,

Oh,

She doesn't wanna receive that.

And so what happens?

The receiving aspects of the other channels also dim.

It affects everything.

The more open you are to receiving and the more you receive without putting a story around whether it's okay to receive that or not.

You know,

It just open the doors wide,

Bring it in,

I'll receive it all.

And that actually opens up all the channels even more.

So think about it that way and think about it in relation to your business.

For you,

Does it just feel like there's just one channel coming in or do you feel like there is potential,

Like there's other channels there,

Maybe they're not quite activated yet,

But they're there.

And to take that a step further,

Let's go beyond your business because this is something else that I see very strongly in my clients is that often you only want to receive through your business.

There becomes a block around receiving from others,

Maybe receiving from your partner,

Maybe receiving from your parents,

Just receiving in other ways in your life because you wanna prove yourself in your business.

So you shut down all the other channels and just go,

No,

It's gotta come through the business.

And again,

That's that same effect where it's saying,

Well,

I'm not gonna receive in these ways,

I only wanna receive in this way,

But you're just in the process of putting out that energy,

Putting out that vibration,

You end up closing down all of the channels,

Not fully,

But you put filters on them all.

That's not what we're here for.

That's not why you're in business.

Your business has come here as your biggest mentor,

Your biggest teacher to teach you how to receive in all ways.

And the beautiful thing is,

As you receive in all ways in your business,

That will translate across to your life.

And you will be receiving in ways you could have never believed.

Your cup will be full.

Your cup will be full to overflowing so that then when you give,

You're just giving the overflow,

But it's so effortless.

Doesn't that feel amazing just to think of that?

So here's a suggestion for you to help make this switch.

And one is simply every day just to say to yourself,

How can I fill my cup today?

That might be just something that you give to yourself.

It could be a walk.

It could be that you do something creative.

It could be that you go and have a cuppa with a friend.

It could be that you do something in your business that gives you incredible joy,

Where you feel so full.

I'm having that experience at the moment when I'm creating my meditations for Insight Timer.

I've created meditations before,

But because I'm putting a little bit more effort into the way I'm recording these and because I'm bringing the music in and I'm editing them a little bit,

Which I didn't used to do with my meditations before,

But it gives me so much joy.

It gives me so much joy to create these meditations and put them out there to the world.

And so I am receiving so much in the creating of those because I'm receiving joy.

And so that might be the thing you do that day is something that really gives you joy.

You might just be so excited to jump on and do a live about a topic that's going on for you and that fills your cup.

That makes you feel amazing.

Another day that may not fill your cup,

But this day it might.

So ask yourself that every day.

Another thing is that you can do to help support this is that every choice you're making around your business,

Ask,

Am I giving more than I will receive in this situation?

Because we can often jump into things and then we feel a little bit resentful,

A bit depleted.

It might be that someone's asked us to do something,

Give a talk,

For example,

And we go,

Oh yeah,

But then we start to feel that we're giving a lot more than what we're actually receiving back.

So every choice you make,

Have a look at those scales.

Will you be receiving so that your heart is full to give?

So important because we are so used to making choices that deplete us more than fill us.

And thirdly,

Just have a think about those channels I was talking about.

Are you blocking some channels?

Are you stopping yourself receiving?

That might be receiving financially.

It might be receiving support.

It might be receiving recognition.

And one way to help open those channels is to simply be aware as you receive.

Notice it.

Oh,

I just received that compliment and fully received it without feeling I had to give something back.

Ooh,

That's a big one for us women,

Isn't it?

We'll receive,

But it's always conditional.

Conditional receiving,

Because now we have to give something and we automatically do it.

And we'll say,

No,

I want to give,

But it's because we are not unconditionally receiving.

So I'm gonna rephrase what I just said then.

Notice when you unconditionally receive and acknowledge yourself for that.

Acknowledge that that is filling your cup,

Because the more you can embrace that energy of unconditional receiving,

The more full your cup will be,

The more you will have to give,

The easier it will be to give,

And the more successful your business will be.

So on that note,
